  1. "Pics" are posted here ( uploaded to leatherworker.net )..not elsewhere , where they can disappear when 1drv.ms ( who I, and many others, members or visitors, have no intention of going to, as it means authorising all of MS tracking scripts and cookies ) or g drive or drop box or imgur etc ( (who require that one accepts their cookies and tracking and those of the 3rd parties that they use ) all of whom at any moment may ( will ) decide to make their "service" something which has to be paid for, and when they do so your links will simply 404..post your images here, if you want people to see them..and if you want them to still be visible in a year from now., to anyone else who might be having the same problems that you are. Normally Wiz would tell you the same re "3rd party hosting"..
  2. Take photos of them with a decent digital camera ( minimum 12 megapixels )..and then "turn" ( convert ) the photos into .pdf files..and save them ...and depending on the image types because ("grading"*, which means changing the size when related to patterns ) does not mean simply enlarging by a fixed percentage ..than "grade" them ..and save them.. Damn...just realised that I'm probably going to have to explain "grading" ( and how to do it, in relation to fashion or garment patterns ) , in another post. Why .pdfs ? because it is common to all OS systems ...like .jpeg. Also you should keep carton or better still "hardboard" copies of each of your patterns ( and in every size ) somewhere in your workshop..and also somewhere away from it ( in case of fire etc )..similar with your computer stuff ..daily backups ..somewhere else (" not in the cloud" ) so if a fire or flood or something else of biblical proportions ( choose your own "sky fairy" as applicable ) takes out your house , workshop, computer, laptop etc .. you don't lose it all.
  3. Agree with Wiz..."crap" covers a multitude of sins...so photos of the "crap"..or better still video.
  4. "Quick and dirty" method to remove moisture from air line..put a toilet roll into a second filter bowl set up where the airline joins the "airtool"..you can also get Anhydrous Calcium Chloride pellets to put into an airline filter, they'll remove all moisture...Or..you could get a bag of the Humidity Remover Crystals sold as " Rubson" in Europe( may have another name elsewhere ) and similar fro removing humidity from houses ( the kind of thing where you put the crystals into a holder over a tray and then put the thing in the room to draw off the water from the air ) and use them..I think they are Calcium Silicate..some kinds of kitty litter are highly absorbent too..especially the crystalline type..you can always find a way to "dry air"..
  5. It would do both..polyester will harden the surface ( and it penetrates well so will harden the top "ply" and maybe the one under it depending on the thickness of each "ply" ) the protection is that it is pretty impervious to most things ( although it will stain a bit with some dyes )..although it can be diluted with acetone ( which is a pretty aggressive solvent ) before curing.. once it has "cured" ( catalysed ) the chemical make up changes and the resulting structure and chemical composition of the molecules is much more resilient, even to acetone.. Think of the decks and hulls and superstructure and the lockers on deck etc of fishing boats..they are pretty impervious to sea water , oil, petrol ( gasoline for the "left side of pondians" ) and most chemicals..and the abrasion resistance is improved. There used to be a place in Dudley ( and another I think it was in Stockton , Teeside ) that sold the plywood that was polyester resin impregnated and faced ( dark brown and red in colour ) that made up some of the old British Railways wagons ( not the really old ones from when I was a kid, but the ones that came in in the 70s ) when they took the wagons out of service you could buy entire sheets of the plywood for scrap..there is a similar place in France in Nancy and another in Strasbourg )..There is a name for this kind of plywood, ( but I can't remember it *) it is probably available commercially now anyway..but would be stupidly expensive..and for what you need , you can impregnate it yourself. Just a couple of things..don't be tempted to add more catalyst than it says ( usually less than 3% by volume ) ..it will appear to be doing nothing, and then start to cure very fast and you'll have a solid tin of the stuff and a solid brush too ..and don't sleep in the room that the thing is curing in, the "outgassing" smell is a mix of gases / vapours in "the styrene family" ..and is bad for you..as in very bad for you..best do it outside ..or wear a mask or have the room well ventilated while you are working ( windows open etc ) ..you can close the windows and leave the room 'til next day when you are done with each coat..when you go back in..open the windows and let the gas and vapours dissipate before continuing work..a bit of "background" heat in the room will speed up the "curing rate".. *Anyone who remembers what it ( or similar ) is called where they are ( wherever they are ) ?
  6. Only problem with hosting your images away from here on free services ( or even paid ones ) is when ( and it is "when" and not "if" ) one day they make it necessary to pay a fee to host your images with them ( if you don't pay ) your images disappear to anyone..Lot of threads here with that problem..Imgur are in "red ink" territory, so they'll have to begin asking payment in the next couple of years at the very latest.. If you say what operating system you are using on your computer or mobile device ?, I'm certain that it will be possible for someone to advise you how to shrink their data size to get them to fit here.
  7. You could mix up some polyester resin ( don't need "food grade" ) with catalyst and give it two coats of that, work fast and you'll not be needing to thin the coats with anything..sand after the first one has "cured" ( although it doesn't "lift grain" as much as marine varnish .. go ever the second one ( when it has "cured" ) with a scotch pad..if you add pigment ( for polyester resin ) to the resin you can get any colour that you can get pigments to mix to.
  8. recipes ?..If I have the time :-) tapatalk..no..you don't need it, nor does anyone else..and it makes your smartphone much more vulnerable to being hacked ,pwned if you install it, and that is without all the spying that it does to you while it is on your phone, writing* attacks and hacks against smartphones is made so much easier because of all the crap apps and spyware that people install on them. * most "skiddies" don't write exploits..they buy them. Writing exploits ( or any code ) is not hard, but nowadays, amongst all the other things that people are too lazy to do, writing code of any sort is also too much effort for many..so much so that there are even apps for that too.
  9. Debate , on any subject, if it has any use at all requires all parties knowing what the subject involves and having experience in the subject.. "Open debate" on any technical subject , to have any value requires that everybody be aware of all issues, and that they understand them, and that they have the experience and knowledge of the subject being debated. We could "openly debate" how to make saddles, but I personally would only expect those with experience of making them professionally to be worth listening to in such a debate. Those who only own horses , or who only ride them, not so much. "A "saying.."it would be cool for me and maybe some others"* if "X" did "Y", even though it will do them, "X" no good and will actually cause them risk and lower their revenue**..is n't "open debate"..it is an opinion..easy to have, but with no "skin in the game" as a site owner. ( *"others" who have never asked*** for such here, I have read all the threads here, did so years ago prior to my first post, have read and still read all the posts since my first post, yes I read very fast, I "catch up every day or so, all posts , all threads , all categories , sites with "anti-bot" "speed traps" frequently think I'm a bot ) **I wonder also how the paying sponsors of this site would feel about having their ads stripped for some visitors and substituted with ads for tapatalks "clients" ***recently ( in the last 6 months ) there have been one or two people, no more than a handful of over 70K membership ( who do not appreciate the security problems that it entails ) asking about "site chat" being hosted here..it hasn't happened..site admin, it appears, knows the risks far outweigh any benefits.and also "chat" would not be indexable, to search engines, conversations, and any mention of leather therein, would not be publicly viewable, so would bring no flowers, only tears and hackers.
  10. read this https://androidforums.com/threads/tapatalk-is-being-discontinued.1125895/ ( one amongst many articles by website owners concerning why tapatalk is not good for websites ) presumably you know that it inserts ads whose profit goes to tapatalk when site users use it to connect to sites..and the privacy issues don't worry you ? It does not increase site traffic for anyone ( other than tapatalk ) it does increase webtraffic ( that word does not mean what you seem to think it means ) though, to the ad servers of tapatalk..Oh..and then there is the privacy of the tapatalk users ( you are perfectly at liberty to sacrifice your own privacy , but tapatalk also leaks information to tapatalk and others from the people who are not using it , but who are using the sites it connects to)..there are zero benefits to any site owner from using tapatalk..Which , if you owned sites with fora ..you'd know...and thus you'd not be promoting a system ( tapatalk ) which costs site owners time to implement, is a security risk to their servers, costs them lost ad revenue, and compromises the privacy of the sites users even those who do not use tapatalk to connect to the site. Incdentally , there are a vast number of publications ( dead tree and web ) about leatherwork, in many languages , and they have existed for many years and in some cases many decades, because you do not / did not know of them , speaks more to your research than to the reality of the information available. This site has been available for a very long time prior to you finding it..it didn't just recently "become available". It has over 70K membership, and is on the first page , at the top, of any SERP in English for just about any search terms that are "informational" as opposed to "transactional". Doesn't need any bolt on socail parastic app to become known, it already is the number one resource for leather workers in the English language, and it is continuously referenced, and linked to in fora in other many other languages ..Finding out about the resources that exist concerning a craft requires ( like learning the craft itself ) time and careful diligent research, it cannot be "short cut" by merely expecting the owners of the sites, the publishers of the books, or the repositories of the information, or imagery to use the latest "sharing"* economy millennial bling for mobile devices. * Sharing all too often means allowing 3rd parties ( with badly coded or unethical app bling ) to take the information or intellectual property or work of others and to interpose themselves ( for profit ), but completely unnecessarily between the originators of the information, images or services and the people looking for the information, images or services. btw..the specific problems referred to by android forums regarding their structure and the archaic structure of tapatalk ( the back end code tapatalk uses is no better since that article was written ) also applies to many other fora , sites and servers, the security problems are akin to running an IRC channel tacked onto a site. ( it is like hanging a big sign on your site" an invitation to be hacked" ) I'm certain that any server admin , or site owner admin with experience of running and adminning many sites , fora and servers, and also writing code for sites , scripts, "apps" and software ( things like wix, blogger, or a page on facebook, or hosted on wordpress etc , do not count as being a "site owner" ) reading these words knows exactly what I'm talking about.Tapatalk and other such "sharing" apps and software is /are all about getting people to install their crapware/ malware/ spyware onto their "devices" ( and if possible get the users to ask to add the software to the site(s)server(s) ) so as to be able to "intercept" visitors to other people's websites content, and selling on their users data, their ( tapatalk et al's ) "appeal" is to those who apparently cannot live without their smart phones and their "touch screens"..real computing , content creation , programming and site admin, is not done via a touch screen. tapatalk is not the only miscreant..all similar software , apps, interfaces are subject to the same problems, set up for the same reasons ( to profit on the back of the content, creation, work of others ) and are all security and privacy nightmares.
  11. Many people these days seem to spell how they speak or how they have misheard ..leads to much cornfusion.
  12. Tom..reason I didn't say to use the site: "operator" ( in this case ) was that ( on my machine and browser at least ) the site: "operator" usually gives a general SERP with no images included , whereas a search string with the site name at the end , gives some images* included in the general SERP..otherwise the actual pages linked to on the alibaba site in both SERPs are the same. IME the site: "operator" removes some ads from the SERP too ( usually the ones at the top )..although you still get one or two at the bottom, I can't imagine that any one targeting terms without putting a "neg" on any use of site: is going to do their adwords QS any good, alibaba target the use of their own name and "metal tags", but someone else's ad shows up on that page too for keywords "bag tags" in a search from my area at least. *I thought she'd maybe prefer to get some images back in the initial SERP. Shame that G hijacked the + "operator" for use on G+ and also pretty much ignore "surrounding quotes" to restrain results to exact match these days..I know that one can go into "advanced" , but most people don't .and even then G still doesn't really respect surrounding quotes like they used to.
  13. try searching for ( copy and paste into search engine, then hit enter ) metal clothing labels alibaba and try searching for ( copy and paste into search engine, then hit enter ) metal handbag and bag tags alibaba you'll find many suppliers offer custom service from your artwork / designs..MOQs can be found as low as 50 units.although MOQ s in the 100 or 200 or 500 is more common.
  14. A little "tool mod" for your wood burner ..if you get a champagne cork, and make hole in it through the centre , lengthways, you can ( if you match the hole diameter to the diameter of the metal shaft of your wood burner..actually make it a"tad" smaller and push it onto the tool shaft ) slide it over the shaft and then you can get your fingers much closer to the tip, lets you guide the tip easier for precision work.. Your runes are very well written , although, with that simple "Champagne cork" mod to your tool.. you can write cursive , just like you were writing a letter..and same size lettering as you'd use to write a normal letter. Yes your fingers get hot ( but not unbearable )..the cork burns and chars a bit , and will eventually start sliding around..but you can make another from another cork..wine corks are not so "wide" ( smaller diametre ), which is why I say Champagne..( note..In our house , it is not me who drinks the Champagne, most of them give me a headache, but my wife likes Champagne, and we save the corks )..I'm "modding" ( making a woodburner ) that will use nichrome wire tips and allow much more precision control, waiting for a DC variater ( to save making the mosfet voltage control version ) to arrive from China..when /if it gets here, I'll test the idea..If it works ( no reason that I can think of why not ), I'll post a "how to"..Could save a hundred dollars or so compared to the cost of a Razor ( or similar ) unit..it should allow much better and more precise control over the burning temps, and allow a more natural "pencil like" way to work..I already have a "rough version" working here..but it is a bit of a "wiring spaghetti" "work bench model" ATM..Based on some things I read in some old pyrography fora .. Btw..I have tested the "Champagne cork mod" on a burner very similar to yours, bought one..took it apart, made the "Champagne cork mod"..you can't use a variater in the line from the mains to the burner really successfully ( although some soldering stations can be moded to give reasonable control to the burning tip ) because it is AC, variator or dimmer doesn't allow good enough control on AC..but if you power using low voltage DC ( such as is used in the Razor etc ) then a voltage controller ( or a mosfet in a circuit ) will allow fine temp control.
  15. The "Henry Ford Book of Harness" ? ;-) Broom ( the plant that was used to make brooms from ) will give a nice golden yellow, on if used to dye leather, or textiles such as cotton or woollen items ( on wool you may need to "strip" the oils first in order to get it to "take".. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broom_(plant) Same page on "Jimbo's Book" will also link to woad ( which can get you blue ) and and other natural vegetable colours..and Turmeric ( here its called Curcuma ) will get you a very intense yellow..Henna will also work to colour leather..Henna's vary from bright red, auburn through to deep rich brown and black There are many more..( especially for blacks and browns and "purple-ish" colours such as vinegaroon ..lots about vinegaroon here on Leatherworker.net etc ) but those should get you started.. HTH :-)
  16. Floyd..Glad to be of help..:-) fast food..no way..I spend an average of 3 hours each evening cooking for my family, I enjoy it..and all ingredients are as good as I can get, organic as much as possible ( when I was a kid living on our small farm in Ireland , all we had was "organic", we were way too poor to afford fertilizer ) ..tonight was sweet and sour chicken ( takes about 2 hours to do so it has all the flavours in there but so that you can still distinguish each one and so that the vegetables are crunchy, and the chicken has some "bounce" when you bite it ), Basmati rice*, and steamed potatoes with olive oil, garlic, butter, thyme , and finely shredded "apple cabbage" and diced courgettes ( what you'd call squashes ? )..with fresh cream added just before serving..Oh and freshly grated cheese ( real cheese ) sprinkled over the "sweet an sour chicken".

You don't need to use the quote button..although you can.. another way is just to copy what you want to reply to..say for example I haven't figured out how to respond directly, without messaging. I think it has to do something with that Quote button. but add this [*quote]..before it..and this [*/quote] after it...but without the *s that will make this happen Et Voila !! :-)
  18. Ok..to begin with ( because I'm eating atm and do not have time to go into some of many other the reasons )..try searching for tapatalk privacy issues for sites tapatalk security issues for site admins tapatalk security issues for users tapatalk cross site scripting Some of us here also run our own sites ( in my case many sites, over many years ..including fora )..some of us are site admins, or sysadmins..some of us have been doing IT since decades..and thus know to avoid ( for us and our users ) any and all superfluous "social" bolt ons/ add ons/ potential exploit surfaces and vectors..as a site owner / admin , one gains absolutely nothing for adding such "social shiny"..but one does increase the headaches, and the chances of being hacked or having a serious data breach ( and thus exposing the data and private information and privacy of our users, even those who do not use such "apps"..merely so that the "faeces book" generation can be amused/ distracted / feel "engaged"/ "share".. Oh..and tapatalk is not "cross platform"..it is restricted to android, winphone ( and we know what happened to winphone as a platform , and iphone) ,so it does not work on "rooted" android or on any alternative ( to those 3 ) platforms..whereas..HTML ( what this site runs on ) is entirely platform/ device agnostic..Some of us ( myself included, can and do write "apps"..actually apps is only short for applications, which is software, which many of us have been writing for many years )..and ( unless we are selling or hyping* such "apps" ) we are really not impressed by them at all. * almost all "apps" tapatalk included, actually exist in order to track their users, and to send the tracking data ( which sites they visit, how long they stay, what pages they see, which ads are on those pages etc, ) to the "mothership" where it is added to the individual users "profiles" to be sifted, filtered, aggregated and sold on to 3rd parties to allow them to "target" the users with personalised advertising..and..the part which most people forget, such profiles can be used and stored ( and they already are. used and stored .some cookies can be set for over 30 years and will not be wiped when you "clean cookies" from your machine )..what you look at today, may be used 10 years from now to condemn you if there is maybe a change of government in the country you currently reside in..ATM in the USA for example it is not against the law to visit sites which talk about making holsters and so..in some countries already the mere fact of reading such threads can mean that one's browsing habits are "flagged" and thus "one is on a list"..maybe one day , that will be the case in the USA, in which case one's history of using tapatalk ( or similar ) could come back to bite one..and result in what is known as the "6 am kick down of the door" ). To return to the point of view of a site admin ( and here I speak only for myself, I am not an admin of this site )..adding such "social bling" gains the site admin nothing, except headaches related to yet another potential exploit surface ..you add that kind of crap onto your site..and you have to spend 24/7/365 watching it being probed.or paying someone to do that watching.
  19. Hopefully.."the site admin"..will not consider it..nor anything like it..ever..
  20. Stamping leather distorts ( stretches it, but unevenly ) as you've noticed..so yes, tooling the other half may get them to line up enough to be able to complete the item. Next time stick the piece that you are going to stamp to something that wont move, ( piece of plywood, piece of acrylic )..then stamp it.
  21. Nope..and worse, it can lead to "sewing machine collection syndrome"*, and "I just gotta have that neat leather tool compulsion". *This one can get real expensive.
  22. You could use the mason jar ( in leather holder ) as a shaving soap mug ( if that is what you call it, the mug that you work up the soap foam in )...you could make a leather holder for the brush and the knife..I can see it now..leather shaving set..with Cusson's Imperial Leather soap ( when I was a kid that was a brand, maybe still is..I wouldn't know, I have a beard )..but the idea of a shaving set is good..in a leather shaving bag.. I can see it now..we're gonna be rich..I can see the yacht..right next to Larry's.
  23. I'm thinking , if you could get some "product placement" on NCIS.. Maybe send a personalized "tooled "version to Mark Harmon.
