  1. What you are calling PVC is highly unlikely to be PVC..far more likely to be HDPE.
  2. Thinner http://www.techsew.com/blog/needle-thread-chart/ HTH :)
  3. No..a splitter splits ( leather )..a shaver shaves ( wood ) ..two totally different actions.
  4. It hear you ..so ..Best advice ..Hell..go with what sells to the public..If they buy enough, it gives you time to do what pleases you..:)
  5. Those are nice..I actually prefer the "Sheridan" on the left to the tie weave..the "contrast" is very nicely balanced.
  6. Given the "vaguely" Grateful Dead" ( the "Mouse and Kelley" work on the covers and the posters ) look of your tooling so far..take a look at some of the old covers and posters of "The Dead"..and also the "Mouse and Kelly" book issued in 1979.. While you are looking at such gems..also take a look ( in case you do any Celtic work ) at Jim Fitzpatrick's work..and for some gorgeous fantasy artwork by someone who sadly is now gone from us..Patrick Woodroffe. HTH :) Ps..neat skeletal horse there..wingless Thestral ?
  7. I meant also to say thank you to showtime, that is an awful lot of highly detailed information, and laid out extremely clearly, about the particular machine which we would not be able to get normally unless we spoke Japanese..thanks also to your wife :) I came close to buying ( missed it ) a Juki 1508NH last year..if another comes along at a good price ( and I can sneak in yet another piece of equipment without my wife noticing ) I'd like one, and this thread ( with all of the posters inputs ) and that detail about what the settings should be are invaluable.
  8. off topic somewhat..but to reply to your specific question.. From the various places ( including here in past threads ) all over the internet ( including Chinese sewing machine manufacturers, who I came across a few years ago, who say that they make parts for Juki ( and others ) and sometimes large assemblies ) and also some of the French Juki distributors ( and some others in Europe )..When I found my Juki DLU 490-4 a few years ago, I searched all over the web ( it is how I found "here" ), phoned a lot of suppliers and distributors, and manufacturers in China, looking for information on the machine, and parts availability, and in particular a set of feet ( what you would call "gauges" ) , many times I got told, "old machine" , "some parts available" "none in Japan" "but maybe in China as they are making a lot of Juki parts and assemblies now"..None of the people had what I wanted ( I only ever saw the "gauge set" I was looking for on a photo of a machine in a used machine sale in the USA..But two Juki distributors told me that a lot of Juki parts were being made in China for the more recent machines..China gets , IMO, and IME, a bad rep for quality, you want to pay the Chinese a good price for top quality work , or machines, or parts, that is what you'll get, "top quality"..want to pay them barely over their cost, you'll get rough quality. Both kinds of quality frequently get "rebadged" and "re-origined" as westerners tend not to have much confidence in goods labelled "made in China". Like leatherwear..most of the brands names of leatherwear ( particularly "biker wear" ) in the USA are actually made in Pakistan ( I know because I know some of the Pakistanis who are making "Made in USA" and Made in France"..for the big brand names...someone here the other day wanted a pattern for a CCW vest..they linked out to a company whose vests I know the maker of..I know how much they are paying, I know the MOQs for OEM, the website that they linked to does not say our leatherwear is "Made' in Pakistan"..but at least it doesn't say "Made in USA"..some sites do claim that.. I've designed for people in many countries over a long time , and seen where a lot of things are actually made, as opposed to where the brands would like their customers to think that they are made. I just took delivery of some items direct from Japan..open the delivery, inside, half of them came in packaging saying China ( PRC ) ..two others said Taiwan. A lot of stuff is not entirely from where we are told, or not entirely assembled where we are led to believe..as long as the quality is good, and everyone involved ( including the people on the production line ) are getting paid a fair rate, and no kids are making it when they should be playing or in school, I don't mind. But I'd prefer honest labelling..strange thing is, some "end customers" wouldn't.
  9. It is highly likely that most of ( if not the entire ) Juki machine ( if it is a "new" one ) was made in China.
  10. G'day ..and Bonjour from France to you Reccymech..some great compatriots of yours on here.
  11. Those are cute/nice..as is the idea, so much nicer than keeping them in a sock..and more comfortable.
  12. I know that I shouldn't be..but I'm giggling at that..
  13. I've been told that chainsaw sculpture, skydiving and going somewhere where one might be shot at are dangerous too.. I only wear gloves when working with 3 phase and HT. But I do have a lot of scars on my hands..and elsewhere.. you eat life..or... Beware of Maya.. ps..In my family , we are all atheists.
  14. In France we can't get "liquid bandage"..but I carry super glue ( against cuts )..always..like I carry cash..and a credit card, driving licence and ID..I also keep super glue in the kitchen, and next to my workbenches and computers.. and have explained to family that super glue is for first aid sticking sides of wounds together while the medics are on their way..or while we are driving/ being driven , to the hospital emergency room..also keep it in the first aid kits in vehicles.
  15. "hook blade" for a scalpel..( looks like a tiny flattened, elongated "sickle" ).the one that the doctors ( or vets use ) to cut stitches prior to pulling them out ..probably a #10 ( or maybe #11 ) "something"..I have some here somewhere, but it is 23.30hrs..a wee bit late to go looking for the pack to get the number off it. practice with it on something else 'til you get proficient, else you'll miss/slip and bleed on your leather..adds "authenticity", but most customers probably won't see it that way.
  16. OK..Yep..that is a stamp..the "spiral" part ( would have been better to post that 2nd, much bigger, image to begin with .."trick question post" ?) no way anyone can carve a spiral repeatedly at that size..But the "camo" may well have been added afterwards to each spiral, there are small "camo" stamps elsewhere on the item..most of the stamps on that item ( using the belt slots and the stitch lengths as guide to actual size ) are very fine detailed and small. No idea where you'd find it "ready made"..but..a stamp maker could make you one..

    Bad motor

AFAIK.."surge protectors" ( you don't give "the spec" of yours ) are unlikely ( have to say that without seeing the circuit diagram of yours..most do not protect against anything other than surges ) to give you any protection against "squareish" sine wave output. LatigoAmigo put "it" more technically (not very often that one comes across anyone who has 'scopes these days, let alone knows how to "troubleshoot" with one, "my hat is doffed Sir" ) than I might have..But, I think that what you are asking cannot seriously be diagnosed in a forum ( given the "tech level" of your replies )..you really need to be working with ( as in face to face ) a technician with the background and experience of LatigoAmigo..otherwise I can see in your's and your customer's futures, a great deal of "magic smoke" escaping..the cost of which could very rapidly outpace the cost of paying someone like LatigoAmigo who knows what they are doing and what they are looking at , and looking for.
  18. This'll do until Lumpendoodle2 gets around to you.
  19. I agree with Tom, that looks like swivel knife hand made cut spirals with "camo" stamping around each , it is a very small picture too.
  20. I'm confused..how did GrampaJoel post ( and get quoted by the person promoting their company's biker bags ) in August 2017..on a thread that was started 5 hours ago on December 3rd 2017.. GrampaJoel's "post" that got quoted..is also nowhere in the thread.. Cue twilight zone music...
  21. You want English that others won't understand.. look up Jabberwocky.. brill :)
  22. You could make the top circle from perforated leather, and have a small battery powered fan inside to pull the hot air out. Be real cool.. :)
  23. Having shipped stuff in the past to the USA, I can tell you ( because I investigated ) the delays are entirely stateside with customs and homeland..things shipped can get to the USA in a few days..and then sit for weeks or even months , with US customs or homeland , before they get released to complete their journey to the customer..happens less with DHL, fedex or UPS ( because they are paying for expedited customs clearance ). but can still happen..EMS ( which is what Goods Japan use ) I have used..tracked it..3days from my door to touchdown in the USA..then 6 weeks in US customs..my customer ( member of US prison's service ) was not pleased at all. Item was clothing..
  24. Look at the work on here by Prince aka azmal copy and paste this next line, as is into Google, and then hit search.. site:leatherworker.net azmal also look at his work ( including some "tutorialish" stuff on deviant art, and images of his work on pinterest, and on his main site at princearmory.com ) the images should give you a pretty good idea of how to "articulate" leather armor..There are others on deviant art who are also well worth investigating for their leather armor work..be prepared to lose weekend just looking at pictures :)
