bitten by the boot bug
bikermutt07 replied to Jake907's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
Well the book runs a 140 American but I think it will be worth it. Probably 6 different times in the first 20 pages he gave hints on stuff to watch out for and how it will mess up the process down the road. -
It looks wonderful.

I received my copy of "Bespoke Shoes" by Tim Skyrme yesterday. I have flipped thru it and read to page 20 (slow reader). It looks pretty detailed and I think it will be enough to muddle through the first pair. -
@SteveHolt, Eric and I live in the same town. When he comes thru it will be from both of us. Cheers.

Congratulations, Chief. Enjoy every minute of it.

You will never reget it. I love my French model. These knives are super sharp. I practice some serious safety with these knives. I haven't had to do anything to them except strop them with every few hours of use. They are great. And, I think his prices are way lower than they should be. After owning the French model, I would pay at least 50 dollars more with out a second thought. You usually have to wait a few months to receive your order, but Terry's knives are well worth the wait. He is a one man show and very busy. Here's a little Knip porn for ya. This last one has a crown marking knife, Knipschield bevel cut, a custom haft from a forum member, the French model, the curved detail knife, and finally another haft from the same forum member. These are the sheaths Terry ships them in.

Sounds like another reason to add to the 90 reasons to not live there.

Retail Shop Front Vs Workshop/unit
bikermutt07 replied to Handstitched's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
So, when you say equine stock, are you referring to shell cordovan? It's almost impossible for an individual to get horween cordovan here in the states. -
Here here. Once you have a really sharp one, you will never go back. Terry Knipschield told me they were depicted in Egyptian carvings.

I would approach the the other wholesaler. -
I'm in Bossier City. I have some oval vanity cut outs and some that are roughly 20 x 30. If you make the trip you can have more than one.

Far as I can tell a cnc laser is a form of repeatable pyrography.

@DV8DUG, here may be the person to ask... Those look really good, thanks for sharing. -
I think this is laser cut. It looks too detailed to be a stamp. That would be a big stamp. If you have this in your possession, does it lay totally flat on the leather or is it recessed? As far as hobbyists goes..... There was a hobbyist a few months ago asking how to build a mobile shop in his trailer for when he was travelling. It had to have space for his big laser engraver, a work area, and his Corvette. He didn't want to leave his laser at home in his big full time leather hobby shop. So, hobbyists do come in all tax brackets. Some of those people who could be flying $20,000.00 model airplanes chose leather work instead.

Thanks, I learned that from a lady that used to make gravy everyday.

My second laptop bag.
bikermutt07 replied to jasonphx's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I liked your first bag and this one sure shows improvement. I think had the flap been a little longer it would drape better. But it may lay down better with use. Great effort and keep having fun. -

A new tote
bikermutt07 replied to ByNelson's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
If you imagine a long rectangle with 2 square notches in the middle it will give you an idea. This is the best pic I have of this stage. You can see one of the notches in the top right corner. Leodis Leather has a tote video that can show you better.
