  1. In what I have seen in videos... People leave the needle down, raise the presser foot, turn, then lower the presser foot, and continue. That may be what you tried, but former and latter always mix me up.
  2. I am no artist, that is for sure. And, @immiketoo is a dang liar. I've seen his stuff. He is definitely an artist.
  3. I vote shrink wrap. Do the whole thing in batches. And, you can get more than one set with each color. Take blue for example. 1" 2" and 3" covers will give you 3 sets of one color but the length will identify which set is which.
  4. It's more frustrating than golf. It takes up more space than grandma's Nick-Nack collection. It's more expensive than motorcycles. It smells better than the forest. And is more fun than fishing.
  5. I like the handle on the "realeather" hobby lobby rotary knife. When I finally did a blade change, I had to try the olfa blade. Fit was fine and way sharper. The realeather version sells for 10 bucks I think. Pair that with an ifla blade from the get go and you have a winning combination for 20 bucks. I believe that is cheaper then going all olfa. And like I said, I like the handle better.
  6. @YinTx, I'm pretty sure that was it. Just another reason people should post their pictures here. Thanks.
  7. Very good job. It's a shame you had to cut the cool carving in half though. It looked even better in one piece.
  8. It's a little rambly, but here goes.... Well, I had to reread the whole thing to gain some perspective. It seems once we can make our edges smooth and straight with decent color and stitching, we have reached the "wow" factor for the blind eyes. "Blind eye" is a term I use in my craft, carpentry. I always felt that if I did something that I would feel proud of in my house, the blind eyes would love it. And that has always seemed to work for me. I have had very few complaints in 25 years with my work. But, leather is my hobby. And I have seen some things on this site that I will probably never strive to achieve. When I first started coming here in late '14, some one posted a messenger bag that had dragons clawing their way out of the flap. It had a huge fantasy castle behind them and I thought "WOW"!!! I knew then I was way outta my league. I don't know who did it, but it was awesome (if anyone knows let me know). And like @YinTx said, there are just so many genres, styles, and categories. Even playing around the last 4 years, I'm discouraged by how much I haven't tried. I know tooling won't be in my skill set. It's too painful on my banged up hands. But, I'm looking forward to shoes, and more totes or a brief case. Heck, I still haven't made a decent holster for my revolver yet. But, I keep playing, or dreaming about it, and when I am doing it I'm having fun. I doubt I will reach anything near a master level in any aspect of leather. So, for now, I will continue to wow folks with decent construction and maybe a cool feature or two. There are some members here who are held very highly in my book that I may never "wow". And that's ok by me. I'm here to have fun and make stuff that will out last me. And that's enough.
  9. I like it, but it would have to be a lot rounder to fit me.
  10. Great job on both, guys.
  11. Heck the stapler is 60 bucks. Great score. I bet it is all the better quality Tandy stuff.
  12. Figured you were lost in 3200 bliss. Is that second bag from the patterned bull hide pull up?
  13. You could just make a mount to house your press horizontally. Or at least the parts needed for burnishing. Just thinking out loud.
  14. I see you are in Canada. I didn't think "Tundra Leather" would be anywhere near Louisiana. Good luck with your event.
  15. Welcome aboard. Most of us here are hobbyists and novices. There are some real experts here though as well. Everyone is really respectful and nice. They are also willing to share their knowledge. I suggest just read, read, read. You will find all kinds to tips and techniques just randomly posted on page 3 in an obscure thread. Dig around there be gold everywhere.
