  1. Welcome aboard, that will outlast your kids.
  2. Most of those items are nicer than anything i have made in the last 3.5 years.
  3. I like that crinkley finish on the outside.
  4. Really nice work. Glad to have you back.
  5. Until you own a seriously sharp knife, you just don't know what you're missing. Here is a pick of some very firm 7 ounce I through the whole thing with little effort. I just rolled the edge right thru it.
  6. Maybe I misread the first post. If you are looking to make a shield, just draw 1/2 of it on some card stock. Cut it out and fold it in half. Trace that side and cut it out. Boom, symmetrical template shield.
  7. If you have a press you can have a die made for them. I use my English strap template for them, myself. Tandy has them for 5 or 6 bucks.
  8. At half price, it was a total no brainer.
  9. Happy wife, happy life. just make it. Go ahead and cut out extras so next year, (instead of saying I told you so) you will have more ready.
  10. I've had this one for a bit. It is a Wuta pattern. He has some really original designs for wallets.
  11. I am no stamper bit here are a few things. Have a solid striking surface. Granite, quartz and the like. You may want to switch to a heavier mallet. Good luck.
  12. Well, wasn't our only idea...
  13. Hey everyone, Friday night we lost power in a FEW tornado that hit our area. Luckily, we we're all ok. But power was out until Sunday at 6pm. The wife and I spent Saturday and Sunday reading during the day. I finished off my copy of "Handmade Shoes for Men" by Vaas yesterday afternoon. While it is not a great 'how to' on shoemaking, it did have some nice tops, techniques, and explanations. A few weeks ago I picked up some books from a saddle repaiman who is closing down and retiring. I got volumes 2 and 3 of Al Stohlman's caseaking books. As I started to thumb thru volume 2 I realized he covers 20, count them 20 different handle styles in this book. He also covers zippers very well. Then he goes on to providing dimensions for 10 or 15 cases and formulas for book covers. He also has templates for accordian style gussets. I am highly recommending this book. It is really well done. I haven't looked over volume 3 yet, but I'm sure it's going to be great.
  14. I like both. This one has been living in my front pocket for awhile now. I quit wrestling bills into the right side right after I started using it. I just fold it and slide them in behind the open flap. I like it fine.
  15. That's the only dedicated one I have seen. However, if you are creative, Wuta has a complete set of punches from (I think) .5mm - 10mm for 60 bucks.
  16. Wow, that will probably last her forever. Great job.
  17. @nstarleather, thanks for the clarification.
  18. Le Farc is mentioned above. I know his videos says he has one tannery in Mexico that he deals with, but that may just be talk, or maybe that is Le Farc, I don't know.
  19. Thanks for the tip on tension. That will help in the future.
