  1. Appreciate all the positive sentiments, especially since I just botched a week's worth of work on a wallet with the last bit of stitching! I'll post it later so everyone can commiserate with me. @battlemunky, that is just Fenice edge paint, since the liner can not be burnished. Not sure how long it'll hold up to repeated knife use, time will tell! YinTx
  2. The design was simple, maybe version 2 will come out better! Open to critique. The leather was really thin, so will probably use thicker leather in the future or a soft backer board when tooling to get better depth. YinTx
  3. I am surprised they didn't just recommend regular tooling leather. You can dye it, oil it/ leave it, tool it, stamp it or not. All up to you. W&C tooling is generally nice stuff. I'll let others chime in on skirting, as I don't think I have any of that. YinTx
  4. They look quite nice. Small items are hard to do because you have to be exact with everything, small errors look big. These are looking pretty flawless! YinTx
  5. It isn't perfect, and priced accordingly! Soft leather - like super softy pig, would be good liner leather or do as you please. Has some dark coloring mottled on it, and a small hole. It's not all marked up, some sections are fairly nice. See photos for best description!
  6. Exceptionally well done. I had a bag like that with an extended flap that had velcro on it, easy to manage on the run, but probably not very bespoke to go with alligator and Haas. Perhaps a snap instead, or a long flap that goes over the side and pulls down with a trigger snap/ring combo that could be operated one handed? YinTx
  7. This came out nice! As for weight, I can only see it adding a few ounces to the hat. From someone that used to wear a hard hat on a day job, that additional weight seems pretty inconsequential. YMMV of course! I've used from 2 oz up to 9 oz like this before, all seemed to work out ok. YinTx
  8. Recent carving from an old craftaid I assume? Nicely done, look forward to seeing the final version! I have ended up with some rather old patterns and such myself, I look forward to making some of them. YinTx
  9. Outstanding! A whole range of skills needed to do that! YinTx
  10. Nifty, a lot of design work on those. Congrats on the commission! YinTx

    Leather Box

That is really incredible, and definitely a niche around here! I really like the pincushion floor. YinTx
  12. I've seen weed-eater cord used before... YinTx
  13. Thank you kindly. I have to draw on other works as well, only a very few items I have come up with on my own. YinTx
  14. I like them, keep sharing. The green on brown is a cool color combo, especially with the contrast stitching. I do have a question though. I made a butterfly sheath like for a knife I have, but everytime I try to return the knife to the sheath, it catches on the opening and slices the inside. How do you prevent this from happening? Also, the first stitch down the side but through the rolled edge: do you find it pulls the rolled leather in an unseemly manner, or is this a non issue? YinTx
  15. Bet she loves it! Cool design, did you come up with it? YinTx
  16. I always enjoy seeing when you post your art, fantastic as always! What a combination of textures! YinTx
  17. That did turn out nice! And, @JayEhl, let us know if you get BK bar grounders, and if they really make a difference for you! YinTx
  18. These are on their way to a new home! Thanks all for the interest, and the anecdotal stories! YinTx
  19. You could use it as a panel on anything you like: Backpack, tote, note book, binder, leather cover for a round seat, all kinds of stuff! Awesome work! YinTx
  20. Pretty nifty! Are they lined so the snap doesn't come in contact with the blade? YinTx
  21. That is really neat. Where did you get the plastic shell? YinTx
  22. Those are awesome! The lettering on the buckle is cool. YinTx
  23. Just saw this little nick-o-sew, currently on Ebay, pretty low starting price. Don't know anything about the seller or the machine, but wanted to share anyhow. I've heard the brand is decent enough. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Electric-Leather-Skiving-Machine-Shovel-Skiver-Edge-Flat-Thinning-Skin-Cutter/283712916821?hash=item420e9b8d55:g:8RgAAOSw61Bd9~rF YinTx
  24. I have discovered something that is the antithesis of the Veblen Effect. Even if something is nice, when you offer it for free, folks will walk on by. I have seen this at the shows when someone is interested in buying something, then I offer to let them have it for free, they decide all of a sudden they don't need it. Even had one person accept a free item, but then gave me money anyhow - i.e. they didn't want it free! Anyhow, these liners may be ok for some uses, but the wallets I make don't do well with them. I bit too thick for my preference, I like different pocket shapes, colors, etc., and I figured someone could put these to good use. I just now measured, the liners are 9"x3". So if someone wanted some wallet back leather, I suspect it'd be 9 1/2" x 3 1/4" or so. Replied! YinTx
  25. Yep, $0 plus shipping. Merry Christmas! We figure out how much it is to ship, you pay that, I send these. WYSIWYG. I used one set, tore up parts of another, didn't try the rest. Looks like 4 complete sets, and one incomplete. If you need a piece of veg tan for the backs, we can work out a meager price with you to send some approx. 9" x 3 1/2" pieces. These simply don't work for me, and I'd feel guilty charging anyone more than the cost of shipping for them.
