  1. Kind of curious, so medium flat rate box that can hold say an order of 5 guns for example, flat rate of 13.50 with insurance, free box, easy drop off, printed shipping available how that would equate to 8 bucks a gun for shipping?
  2. I would shoot Buckleguy an email or phone call and see what he can do for ya. They may be available.
  3. If you have a ramp then a come-a-long works great, one person to steady the machine on your dollys and the other to crank it up the ramp. You can get a 2 ton one for $20-30 usually.
  4. Ive done a few purses with those mitered joints, that takes a little (lot) practice to get that cut just right on both pieces. Very sharp awl is a upmost requirement IMHO and a good glued joint before ya start.
  5. Welcome to the forum. Ill throw it out there first I guess, list your location so people can recommend suppliers that would be applicable to you. The second one doesnt look like latigo to me but I could be wrong. Anyhow are you looking for vegtan, maybe drum died? Personally I would go with Hermann oak or wickett and craig drum dyed skirting/tooling or there english bridle which comes in both those colors. I know one of the WC bridle leather is pretty close to the bottom one.
  6. Use to do? You mean still do whenever they get a chance. Only reason I dont buy preground beans if I can help it.
  7. Ray I think he started two threads at the same time. The other one got alot of discussion. Both threads now merged.
  8. That "law" came into effect about a year ago (maybe two). Before that it was not an issue and not against the law. All the liberals out here have been trying to turn this place into california and are doing a pretty good job of it. When the law was first enacted you couldnt even take your wife or other family member shooting at a range and hand them your gun. They had to write in a change or whatever its called so that family members could use your gun and give it back basically. If I remember right you cant even let your buddy your shooting with at the range plink a few rounds with your gun not that anyone I know follows that crap. Kitsap county passed a bunch of other stuff with it, like not being able to discharge a firearm within 500yds of any "wetland", news flash this whole western half of the state is a wetland. Also made a bunch of other stuff in the fine print like you cant shoot rifles that use ammo considered pistol ammo at the range, no 45lc lever actions or the like for instance. Its cool to shoot a 308 but dont dare pick up the lever action 45LC . Basically they dont want anyone to shoot on there own land, and they wanted to push out as many gun ranges as they could.
  9. Decent little article on baseball leather http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/040504/bus_15253636.shtml Here is the tannery http://www.tntanningcompany.com/ Since its exclusive by that tannery for baseballs I am not sure how easy if at all it is to get it publicly. However I have never tried before. I would start by contacting the tannery directly.
  10. As far as I know and remember HO just marks the sq/ft. They may do the stamp as well but dont recall. Never scene vegtan marked with a grading mark from the tannery WC or HO. So most places that I know of when they order large quantities from a tannery get TR (unselected grade), basically they pull the next 100 or 200 hides or just get a pallet full basically, no real sorting. Some are gonna be A some B some more like D. Atleast thats my understanding for resellers. Now if your some big wig manufacturer that they supply on a regular basis they may have a deal for selecting all A grade leathers regardless of the large quantity they get however that is just a guess on my part as I dont know or have worked for a big name manufacturer.
  11. Well I wouldnt let some local vender hides get in the way of your opinion of HO. By the way they probably get the TR grade or lowest grade possible more than likely and sort out the "better" ones and call them A and B sides. However if your getting them at that price I would use those to practice with while you learn to use your tools and find out what works and what doesnt.
  12. Do you tape the back when you tool them? I usually use the blue painters tape. It helps prevent the leather from stretching as you tool it. Once done let it dry on a flat surface then remove the tape.
  13. Convenience yeah, about the only reason I could see not using wax and linen thread IMHO.
  14. I will bet ya any of the German/Japanese made sewing machines had properly heat treated screws and bolts along with the old USA made ones. China has been known for both crap heat treat and junk metal, atleast until the US started selling them all our scrap steel for next to nothing. They are good at castings/coping for the most part hence why alot of people have taken various pieces of equipment and replaced the bearings/hardware/fittings and had a pretty nice item. Oh and if you properly install screws and bolts you dont have cross thread issues.
  15. Thats probably why Steve I think it is says to align lip above the bolts along the main shaft to ensure correct timing. With a lack of timing marks you gotta use something although unless that key groove is always "aligned" properly dont see how it can be a reliable marker. Thanks for the manual Uwe, that will be helpful hopefully.
  16. Hahahahaha thats funny dikman, manuals ahahahahaha, have you scene the manuals that come with the clones? OP if ya have the money get the real thing. If ya dont get a clone. One word of advice, if you get it from a dealer over there make them prove it will backstitch in the same holes. If they dont good luck getting it to.
  17. Well have you tried calling Horween (Tannery Row is the retail site) and inquiring, or shot an email?
  18. Thats a nice looking machine ya got there. Very good deal on it as well.
  19. Catch 22, Require them to get a certain number of arrest or to stop a certain amount of break ins (a regulation) what happens is what you have now they arrest and give tickets for things that dont even happen so they can meet a quota. Maybe the old school ones worked on pride and honor but as you cycle the new ones thru who are trained on a quota system it becomes ingrained and its all they know. You end up with a bunch of LEOs that treat the general public as just a income source.
  20. If your getting charged for other peoples shipments I would definitely look into that lol. It all boils down to big business and greed. The business isnt going to loose money so they will find a way to make sure that they get there profits regardless. They arent going to gamble on losing money because a few people got into accidents. They are going to charge everyone a little bit more so they can get that profit increase every quarter regardless what happens.
  21. Always a catch 22. The shipping company makes a mistake on your order and its a broken system. Shipping company ships hundreds of your holsters all over the country for a few bucks a piece and its a beneficial necessity for your business that usually works great. Being required to have insurance sucks because it allows the "big business" to make a ton of money. Your new house burns down and your insurance company covers it so you can buy a new one without having to pay for or be out of pocket for your pile of ashes. Government doesnt limit business from price fixing and they charge the crap out of all the stuff you wanna buy. Price fixing is supposedly illegal and prevents business's from ganging up against the consumer (ofcourse its still widely spread just look at our advertising sewing machine dealers yep ) Your neighborhood pipeline gets shut down, now they charge you $10 a gallon to fill your truck. Although thats a whole other topic. No regulations on child care and now you got child care providers not doing back ground checks on there employees and end up hiring sex offenders to watch over your sons and daughters (no thanks). Regulations in place it causes increased prices which are thru the roof for child care by the way. My wife would need a full time job paying $20 an hour just to cover the expense of putting our daughter in child care all day, hence why she stays home and raises the kid. IMHO most of it boils down to big business not wanting to make less than a 15% (or much more) profit every quarter. They pay the politicians, now they are the politicians. But like ya say a bunch, its none of your business what someone charges for there goods.
  22. Burnishing thin leather is pretty hard to begin with. I have had mixed results with combination tanned leather, some burnishes pretty decent and others can be as bad as straight chrome tanned. The tallow waxed if that what it really is should actually help but who knows what that phrase actually stands for.
