  1. Good looking stuff. How do you manage that dying technique? How well does it hold up on the seats. That seems to be one of the harder things to have a finish hold up on.
  2. Like in person or how most of us do and get it shipped? Typical sources Goliger, Wicket and Craig, Maverick, Hidehouse, ......... I dont know of any in person places in your area, probably only thing would be Tandy if there is one but I couldnt in good conscience recommend there leather.
  3. Well generally speaking and I mean very generally, now a days suede refers to the split from thinning leather so the flesh portion that is finished, nubuck is suppose to be the grain side that is sanded buffed up. In my experience the nubuck is a finer finish and the suede is a little coarser. IMHO either would work depending on what you have on hand and what the finished look is you want to achieve, the thickness of either leather and if it will work with the project you have in mind.
  4. Just got my delivery from Bob (Toledo sewing), guess what, it was exactly what I ordered and it took about 3 days less shipping then getting the wrong stuff from the exchange. Have not had a chance to use the thread yet but will see how it serves me over the weekend. Plus his thread was ALL labeled, and all came wrapped and sealed.
  5. Well nothing gets made in America anymore ecspecially little things like this so you gotta look overseas. Alibaba has a bunch of listings for these things, there are several other countries making them as well. Remember you want stainless steel to help prevent discoloring the leather. For example https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Tool-bags-hardware-accessories-hammer-holder_60529490653.html https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/tool-holder-pouch-bag-hammer-holder_60593075076.html https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/quick-action-hammer-holder-for-pouch_60490777754.html
  6. Over the size of a skateboard deck which has a bunch of area, curious how they are figuring that out. As far as doing holsters and sheaths the food saver has worked pretty darn good IMHO. Draws down to 23in I think if I remember right. Ive used a much better hand pump then what is pictured in the link and yes it would draw down a good vacuum but that was in a very small space and it still took some effort. Not something I would want to be fiddling with doing any number of holsters/sheaths. Far easier to get a cheapo vacuum pump and setup a table dedicated to the job.
  7. Oh should of looked at your location. Yeah Pig has its place and is a good liner for certain applications, thin vegtan roo I really like for lining things where you want a little more body and where you would line with normal thin cow vegtan. Its just much more expensive here in the states so not always a go to unless you can afford it or work the price into your project. In a application like a collar with a large dog I would definitely pick roo, it should wear nicely over time and will hold up if properly installed.
  8. Kangaroo will outlast pigskin by far however it's more expensive.
  9. Hop on down to the sewing machine subforum maybe get the thread moved. There is actually a good long thread about this very subject in that forum.
  10. Sedgwick is some nice leather. Over here in the states ya can get it at Booth leather The owner is great to deal with but you will have to email him to get shipping quote and inventory. He has fair to good prices considering. Wickett and Craig has harness and use to have bridle in burgundy which was a red/maroon color.
  11. wow https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/atq/6029349134.html
  12. Sounds like that is the blanket set feed dog, most of these things come with a smooth feed dog. You can file down the toothed one or fill it with something. I would probably use some silver solder or you could try the epoxy just make sure its clean first. The feed dogs shouldnt be too expensive but I have not priced them so cant say for sure.
  13. He has several machines for sale. Also a nice 153w103 which has walking foot but without reverse. Price is a little steep but not sure if he takes offers.
  14. I am not on my computer right now so no shortcuts but the 227r should not be hard to find parts for. Call Bob or maybe Uwe will post some links to a couple of suppliers that are really good.
  15. Na was thinking of stiffener to sandwich between two layers of leather. The issue I think is the sole bend will hold it fine but felling trees you will I assume be out there in all kinds of weather so even the thick leather could get water logged which could affect its rigidity (for that style of holder).
  16. Per thickness horse butt strips are pretty darn hard/stiff but its different/difficult to work with sometimes. Would using a stiffener be out of the question?
  17. This is obviously for kangaroo lace that is much thinner but probably the same overall concept. https://youtu.be/w7LV8IHU7lw Cheaney had a video for latigo lace but his cuts are pretty much just straight cuts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OebTP5cY3g Have you tried talking to any whip makers about how they go about doing it? May wanna hop on down to the subforum.
  18. Finally got some leather needles for my 1947 machine, tried some 207 top 138 bottom just for fun. It made a stitch and looked good on top but wouldnt pull the knot into the leather. Not saying much as it barely pulls the knot in with 92 top/bottom. Stitch looks great on top though. Ofcourse I may need a new tension spring as the one on it is probably original.
  19. Pretty sure they splice them or join two lengths. Or he is really thin. Have scene a few belts that were joined and they looked pretty good

    Good leather

I hear that. You'll like the WC when the time is right.

    Good leather

I would rather buy in the confidence of getting a good product in the first place.
  22. You can get the lube pots from I assume any of the dealers for cowboy or cobra. Give one of em a call. I would say beware on them as if you leave anything like liquid wax in them they will rust in a second. The "powder coat" or "paint" on the inside is apparently not very good atleast on mine. If your using oil it would probably be alright.
  23. Hate to say it but most walking foot 563 style machines go for about 800-1000 around my parts. Occasionally one will be less but usually small bobbin and they are gone quicker then you can call the person. Every once in a while something will stay on long enough and it happens on a weekend and the moon is just right which allows me to beat the CL monitors to a good deal. Most look at the highest price on ebay and price them just under that then point to the fact they sell on the bay for a certain price even though most of those have been on the bay for over a year. Saw a 29K17? for $200 pop up, called the lady and she just wanted it gone (been in storage for 10 years) but I was the 4th person on the list half an hour after it listed and the first guy that showed up took it home. It looked almost new.
