  1. Maybe they are better with Jersey folks or firefighters? I gave up on that store a while back. Wont get into the details but there are better options (price/service/billing).
  2. Hopefully that's a smart one that can be trained well because they can almost pull a freight train. We use one of those antipull harness on my dog and he doesn't have any issues with it. He has had one for about 6 yrs now.
  3. Once I got my 211 squared away it does pretty darn good. Will scream right along if you want it to. Wish mine had a big bobbin (and reverse to while I'm at it). Course now the 111 I got has kind of stolen the show. Same issues though, stitching guitar straps with 138 empties a G bobbin pretty dang quick.
  4. Do a google search using this string paisley site:leatherworker.net Hope that helps.
  5. Yeah 212 duh (double needle 211), I thought most were walking foot in that line up? Guess two needles moving the material is pretty darn good though.
  6. Well surprised that you stayed with them this long. Any number of places, if you order enough and have a business license I guess you could do weaver. IMHO order direct from the tannery, wickett and craig for no minimums, hermann oak if you can float it. Other then that goliger leather, the hide house, maverick leather.
  7. Aren't those good for upholstery work? Looks like a double needle 211.
  8. I would get some opinions from more experienced holster makers but I do about an hour give or take. Be mindful of the wrinkles that can develop in the bag.
  9. Use a vacuum bag then only have to add detail lines if wanted, this way your not burnishing as you form the holster.
  10. If you could swing it https://fayar.craigslist.org/for/6043127107.html
  11. so your looking for a 23 or 24 size in schmetz 794 system? Most all the dealers should have those sizes. I have schmetz in those sizes ordered online. 23 is the smallest in 794 below that you have to get 7x3 I believe, others correct me if I am wrong. Here is a good chart http://www.tolindsewmach.com/thread-chart.html
  12. Could always ask them via email and see if they feel like responding.
  13. That looks like edge paint to me. could be wrong but pretty sure it is. Not overly done either, just a thin layer. You can burnish flat somewhat with a flat burnishing tool just a little more difficult IMHO because the edges want to bulge out a little.
  14. If its who I think it is probably wont be the last time you ask yourself if you should return it. Not sure what happened to them in the past few years, there mark up is usually huge compared to what you can get it for else where, if its not then ya should probably wonder why.
  15. The double loops also reduces the stress on the handle which should make it last longer theoretically.
  16. Brmax when did the thread guide become an option? Thought all these machines came with them. Personally I can't see not using it unless the lube pot is installed but that's just me.
  17. Ya mean Juki problem helps a bit
  18. Yep cheap imported crappy leather. Send it back and stick to good stuff if you can. For the few bucks ya save its really not worth it for the ones or twos you make for yourself or if your trying to sell it. Either way worth it to get decent/good leather. Oh and I am not saying all imported leather is bad, but the good imported vegtan they will usually advertise where it comes from maybe even the tannery, when they advertise as just imported then its usually tandy grade leather. Wanted to add if your planning on doing more then a few items its almost always worth it to just buy a back and a cheap strap cutter.
  19. It varies but the ends of straps could be part neck area or upper leg, either gives same kind of result as the belly for the most part (not always as bad but it can be). Now one thing is what grade did they advertise it as? Also are these strips over the advertised length say 80" vs the 60" advertised? Plus would be nice to see pics of the whole thing so as to put it in perspective.
  20. There are a bunch of ways to remove/nuetralize rust on things. Looks like ya got a over the counter type that hopefully works well. I have done the electro whatever method with a DC power supply in a solution of I think it was baking soda with a anode (steel bar) (have to look it up to be sure, been a while). That worked really well. Another method is apple cyder vinegar with salt, put the item in and let it sit. Take it out and brush off the rust and repeat if necessary. This method usually does as good if not better then over the counter stuff and is pretty cheap. Just FYI for future ventures.
  21. Yeah I understand. My 441 has the toe cut out, my 111w doesnt although planning on cutting out the toe on that thing just so I can see where the needle is going to hit.
  22. Or just thread it thru the presser foot before pulling up the bobbin thread, or just pull up bobbin thread then grab that and pull the top thread thru the foot. Its not overly difficult. Nice looking machine by the way, Looks like a very useful one hope it serves ya well.
  23. I actually started using this stuff Thread lube from campbell randall. It works pretty good. I burnish with that stuff then go back over with my regular edge wax and burnish real quick and am done.
  24. That sounds like a really bad piece you got. It shouldnt be cracked at all, it will have a tough exterior but pretty flexible. I like ostrich knee alot but it works better for inlays usually although I have made several sheaths with a overlay. It has to be put over vegtan as its pretty thin.
  25. Talk to people who actually know a good deal about those machines and have been selling them for many many years like Bob at toledo sewing, Steve at cobra, there are others but I am bad with names. The 26 class does look like a nice machine and would be perfect for the thickness you plan on sewing along with having a bunch of attachments available that will help with doing bags. A 441 cloner would be good for 277 and thicker thread but your going to run into a tough time with less then 6oz and thats kind of pushing it IMHO (I know others do thinner and I have also but its not ideal).
