Hello, I'd say the best way to find out what it's worth is to put it on ebay, but then she'd have to be able to ship it,so I would guess something around $1,200.00 should be a fair price.
I agree w/CD it looks like a 31-15 BUT the model# is on the oval brass tag on the front,if there was alittle more light on it in the pics I could read it.
He's right you have to lower the needlebar down to make the 7x3 needles work & then it will sew only 1/2" do to the end of the needlebar hitting to foot.Which is ok if you don't need to sew very thick but I doubt if it'll work very good that way for most people.
There is usually a sharp edge accross the back on this plate that you can grind off to give it a taper , it's the back edge right @ the end of the red line in your pic.
There has never been many repair manuals around for many sewing machines,Singer always had operator manuals BUT they wanted you to call their repairman out & make some $$ to fix it so they never printed service manuals.
Hello Randy,I'm at the show in Wichita Falls,TX. & wanted to let you know we have a new model that we just got in yesterday that sews to 5/8" @ a great price if you want to give me a call next wed when I get back I can let you know more about it.
Yes,a roller foot has it's place as long as the material is stiff enough that it doesn't lift up w/the needle & your going straight. There a foot w/a teflon bottom available that will help in sticky material.
Andrew with the roller foot on the leftside when you turn to the right the stitches will get shorter & when you turn left they get shorter. The reason is the foot isn't in the center,On a needle feed there's a narrow foot that would work better.
It's a Sutton & it wasn't made for very many years,it was also sold as a bench mount.I don't know if there's parts available for it or not.You can try calling Gateway Shoe in St.Louis,MO.
tnarot2 is right it's a consew 225 clone & yes it would be a great machine for chaps & lighter leather like that.It will use 138 thread but you have to be careful to hold on to the needle thread when you start sewing so it doesn't jam up.We stock the parts & needles for it along with most other dealers on this board. What's nice about this is the feet are inexpensive since they interchange with a lot of other brands.
Those are great machines, but they are better when you sew what they were designed for.Clothes with regular thin thread. If you want a heavy duty type of home machine get a Singer 15 class they have a type of hook in them that will allow you to use #69 nylon & sew 1/4" or so of leather w/o any problems. The 201 has a rotary hook that is for lightweight only. The 201 is a very smooth & sought after machine here in the states for quilters,it seems like there wasn't as many made as the 15 class.
