The 16x87 is the correct needle and or any other needle you have that is that length.

Are you threading the needle left to right?

They should of asked you the rest of the model# the 211 w/needle feed take shorter needles(135x5)11/2" long than the 211 w/walking foot that take 135x17 or 135x16 leather point 13/4" long

They usually don't sew very good w/nylon thread,they use cotton or linen & put some thread lube in the pot & it's stitchoff better @ the end.

Congrats on the new machine,they are great. We have a couple of shoe shops in town here with them & they sew some pretty heavy stuff on them.

We have sold a few of these to people sewing soft leather like chaps,wallets & they work good,but they won't sew hard leather. They around 1/4"

When people come in my shop looking for a machine I tell them the 111w will sew heavier than the portable WF machines.Stay away from the HF machines too.

They do make feet were the left or right toe only is on the outside foot so you can get closer than the standard double toe that is on the machine & NO there isn't a roller foot for the 206.

IF your sure it's threaded correctly,pulled down in between the tension discs,then look to make sure the tension discs aren't sticking open when you try sewing,I think that's what Darren is saying,try pulling on the thread with the feet down because when you p/u the foot the tension realese opens the dics. HTH

Maybe this will help.

It should handle 3/8" or so but you can use #277 thread pretty easy on this machine.You might have problems with marking on the bottom as this machine has the bottom feed dogs that pulls the leather but at least it has a walking foot ,this machine is better suited for sewing nylon webbing or canvas.

Well I can tell you it's NOt a Durkopp -Adler,It's a Durkopp the factory that built it was bombed during the war & they never rebuilt.SO there isn't any parts available for it anywere.We do have needles in stock for it & that all. When sewing they do sew pretty good. Here's a pic of the one we have.

There should be wiring directions either on the plate on the outside or inside the end cover.

There are alot better Singer home machines to use than this one because this & most Touch & Sews have plastic gears that will break(we stock them) Try finding an older black Singer that only has straight stitch on it, w/a built-in motor they are all metal & have a very strong motor & are built to last.The bobbin goes in underneath.You can use #69 nylon on these & they are great to get started with.

This machine has a walking foot,it is better suited for sewing canvas or upholstery than leather.If it's 240 you need to check if it's single or 3-phase,if it's 3-phase you'll have to change the motor or get a convertor which will cost more than a motor because there's electronics in this motor that need a good constant voltage or they get fried. If you want to sew leather it should sew up to 20 oz.I'm almost certain that you might have problems getting parts for this machine too.

It would depend of course how old & how much it's been used but I would guess from 1500-2000 pound if it's in decent condition.Maybe more if it's real nice. They sell over 4000 pounds new.

Needlebar could of gotten pushed up when the needle broke,loosen needle screw & lower needle a couple mm & see if it gets better. If it does you will need to lower needlebar.

There isn't much you can do to this machine back 100yrs when it was made people didn't care much about feed dog marks or material sliding alittle.Now today it's a different story that's why you need a machine with compound walking foot & needle feed like an Adler 205 ,Juki 411 or a 441 clone will do a much better job for you.

I'm not sure what machine the 1010 is BUT it's tension related & probably one of 3-things,the first thing to try is cleaning the thread discs out because lint will build up in there & give you loose tension,#2 can be on the thickness your tension is being released from sewing so thick & #3 is hook timing. So the easiest thing to try is cleaning the tension try that out & see what happens.
