  1. Modified Steamer trunk. As soon as I can I'm going to start to make one.
  2. I will not introduce my self, and I will send you my address in PM. I would love to adopt the orphan.... I all seriousness, great and innovative idea. have you ever thought of doing a textural?
  3. You mean there is ANOTHER way to do it? So yes I have.....
  4. Cant say for sure but I've had something that looks kind of like that. I just make sure there no wet dye on the surface I'm dyeing on. The paper, cardboard or benchtop ect. Call it transfer if you like. still have to be careful when I use an airbrush.
  5. for the scabbard you can check the Tandy leather craft library I think.
  6. I use this and l LOVE it. Before the ... troubles I was working on a plan to do parties. this made it easy to transport a lot of my tools in one fell swoop. And still use it on my bench top. https://www.harborfreight.com/eight-drawer-wood-tool-chest-94538.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiMzgxOTkwMDkiLCJza3UiOiI5NDUzOCIsImlzIjoiNTkuOTkyNDk5OTk5OTk5OTkifQ%3D%3D&cid=paid_google|||94538&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=&utm_content=&gclid=Cj0KCQiA88X_BRDUARIsACVMYD-k10AIdKCUrAYIFnQFcwtmDywUkbyg9rXIpoHTzbkhdXFVfH6j-NkaAv0OEALw_wcB
  7. I use water and some homemade AirBrush cleaner ( a mix of denatured alcohol, distilled water, non ammonia Windex and glycerin.). There is a guy here that uses a sonic jewelry cleaner.
  8. Strop (easy to make), polishing compound, good lighting, grid ruler, straight edge at least 2 wing dividers.
  9. IMHP weather or not you go expensive or cheap is less of a question than you would think its about keeping them in good working order. I recently got some of my blades sharpened professionally (Not all that expensive in fact) but the edge has lasted LONGER on a blade I bought cheap from ebay, why you ask I strop that blade all the time. I strop it when I put it away and when I pick it up. Same with a few drive punches. I rigged up a Dremel arbor with a few leather disks and some jewelers compound to polish then my expensive punches may keep an edge longer than my cheaper than cheap ones but they work just as well when I use them. So as far as I'm concerned I would START out midrange, SLOWLY upgrading up what I use more often and what needs to be replaced. As far as what to buy for the workflow... use what you need and want to. For me I start out cheap, and move up from there. My expensive awl is rarely used and my cheap irons get a work out. Because I like the use if stitching irons. Remember what people say here is derived from personal experience. What ever you decide have fun. Do that and weather you are a pro or just once a year let it stress you LESS. And smile more. without that you might try cross stitch.
  10. I smoked for over 20 years....quit less than a year ago. The last decade or so I rolled my own so I made a tobacco pouch to hold my shake. In the end I used a heavy duty ziplock bag in the pouch to keep my shake moist and a long slighted flap to keep down spillage. Still have one of those pouches....... DAMN I MISS SMOKING!
  11. A bit of goat skin with contact cement....?
  12. I jot an arbor press and took it to a garage machinist and he bored a hole in the ram and another for a retention screw that I slide tools in for all my snaps, rivets, stamps, stitching chisels, round punches, Slot punches anything really. I'm looking for a drill chuck to slid in now so as to expand it even more. so IMHO get the thing that is cheaper, had more uses AND is expandable. 2 ton press was 75 to 80 USD Ram Drilling 25 USD Drill chuck 25 - 80 USD (though I haven't gotten the drill chuck and I'm using it now.)
  13. You could also use a stitch groover, it digs out a sliver of the flesh side of the leather and if your tool is sharp and the teeth are IN LINE they will slide in the gruve and keep straight.
  14. Looks like you are using a piece of leather under your work as a cushion, try using a plastics cutting board at least 1/4 th inch thick.
  15. TO be perfectly honest I will get my first machine when my wife says I can. And not a moment sooner.
  16. Agree with neodymium magnets but BE CAREFULL with them, my fingertips still twitch when I type the word.
  17. No I have not. But I have gotten things I have used it on wet and had no problems.
