  1. Yes, I almost recommended that earlier. Depending on the look you're going for you can either use antique directly on the leather, dye a lighter color, use a resist like Resolene or Clear Lac and then a darker antique, or you could use resist over the undyed leather and then antique. Play with some scraps and see what you like best.
  2. Sounds like a monster of a project. Please post photos of your progress.
  3. I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the tip.
  4. That's funny! I'll have to tell my customer to watch out for that. Thanks for the nice comment. I've watched a few of Nigel's videos, but I missed that one. It just seemed like the right way to do it (after a little trial and a big error). My first try I realized that the body was too light weight, and more importantly I got the loops too close together. Tossed that into my scrap drawer and started over. Lesson learned.
  5. First two things that come to mind are using foam padding between the layers, or simply using shearling for the liner.
  6. Thank you all for the kind words.
  7. Looks great! I bought one of those embossed cow hides from Tandy, made a belt, but haven't figured out anything else to dowith it. Now you've got me thinking about it again.
  8. Another winner!
  9. Looks really good. I love the tri-weave stamps, but I struggle with keeping it even. You have done a nice job.
  10. One of my co-worker's husband wanted a cartridge holder that he could slide onto his belt. It holds 10 rounds of .45 Colt. The main part is 9/10 oz veg tan, the loops are 4/5 oz. The loops are held on with copper rivets and stitched between each one. It's dyed Fiebing's show brown. Everything is hand stitched.
  11. Hey Yin, where are you in South Texas? I live in Corpus Christi. The weather here reminds me of Hell with a sauna.
  12. Very nice. I have wanted to try another of these, (the first did not come out as expected) but have been putting it off. You did a fantastic job.
  13. Now there's a sewing machine I could run! Great looking holster.
  14. Gray, I am in awe of your talent. Your style is unique, but based in classic western style. Your carving and coloring are fantastic.
  15. I have had trouble drawing stars since kindergarten. I just bought a star stamp that is close to an inch in diameter to do a Texas flag. (I will take all the help I can get.) The only suggestion I have for the moon is the trie and true one: practice, practice, practice.
  16. One more suggestion - you might want to consider a star stamp. There are several sizes available at your local Tandy's.
  17. Ja buddy! I had one of those "bird" moments the other day when it turned out that I had screwed up the the spacing on some bullet loops I was working on. Oh well, redraw the pattern and move on - another in a long line of learning experiences. Love your carving of the bird by the way. Your use of the pebbled background is much cleaner on this piece. We are all learning as we go, part of the joy (and frustration ) of this craft of ours.
  18. Just took another look at this - your detail is amazing. I love the way you incorporated the moon into the scroll. So imaginative! Keep em coming.
  19. You've done it again! Great work.
  20. Thanks. I've considered that, unfortunately my tablet is probably too old to find a case that Will fit. Besides, I would need a crowbar to get it away from my granddaughter long enough to even draw a pattern.
  21. Looks great! How is the phone secured to the case? I have kicked around the idea of making a similar case for my tablet, but haven't figured out how to secure it.
  22. You are clearly a master of this craft. Great job.
  23. Awesome!
