  1. This afternoon I spent a couple hours in the shop with my nine year old granddaughter. She wanted to make something for a school project. She did most of the stamping and all of the coloring. Had a ball. Also taught her to appreciate the music of The Who. Great way to spend an afternoon.
  2. Just finished this phone case. 4/5 oz veg tan with 2 oz veg lining. Inset is ostrich leg, originally glazed white that I re-dyed med. brown. I welcome any comments and criticism.
  3. Looks great. Do you mind sharing the secrets of your beeswax/oil mix? Or should I mind my beeswax.
  4. Your stamping is beutifully defined and perfectly symmetrical. I really like the detail work at the tip. Best of all is the color and the finish. It has a kind of patina to it that makes it look like it has been worn for years and lovingly cared for. Just one small detail - you might want to dab a little dye inside the holes. I have made a lot of belts over the years, some that I am very proud of. I'll trade any of them for that one. You should be proud.
  5. Thanks to both of you. I have been wanting to get some Barry King tools, that might be a good first tool from him.
  6. You're absolutely right about my uneven corners. I think I had more stretch on one side than I did on the other, I'm pretty sure I checked that the ends matched up, maybe, I think... maybe not. Anyway, by the time I noticed it was either uneven corners or oddly thin border. I will definitely be more careful on the next one. Thanks for your feedback.
  7. I have looked at that stamp, but I don't really care for the little atom symbol in the center. Thanks for your feedback.
  8. Absolutely beautiful. Fine craftsmanship. You should be very proud of this piece.
  9. Great start! I sure wish my first projects had looked that good. Keep up the good work.
  10. This is a prototype of a handled sleeve for Yeti stye tumblers. I used 4/5 oz. Veg tan for the sleeve, and 9/10 oz wrapped in 7/8 oz. There are quite a few things I will change on the next one. First, I will use thicker leather on the sleeve. I will move any carving, initials, graphics 45 degrees towards the handle. I will also make the handle a little smaller. I welcome any critiques, criticism, or ideas anyone has to share. I know that l got a little off track with the tri-weave stamp, happens every time I use that Craftool. Does anyone know of a tri-weave that is easier to keep on track?
  11. Thanks, don't think I've tried that one. Looks really good.
  12. Man, that's beutiful! Iove how well you matched the sheath to the knife hilt.
  13. That looks durn good to me. Nice shade of brown. Can I ask what dye you used?
  14. That kangaroo sure has pretty grain. Burnishing or even just painting the edges would give it a more finished look.
  15. That's very cool. I may have to make some of these for my grandkids.
  16. A friend asked me to make him a case for his razor. I have been wanting to try to make a rolled edge since the first time I saw Paul Long's tutorial. For the most part I like the way it turned out. I tried to get a little color contrast by dying the liner Fiebing's medium brown, and used their Pro Dye in show brown. Unfortunately I did not do a color test prior to applying the dye. There is so little color difference that if you weren't told about it you wouldn't notice it. Oh well, lesson learned. Another lesson I learned on this piece is that when shaking a bottle of dye it is always a good idea to check that the lid is on tight, got lucky and didn't ruin anything.
  17. When I saw the first picture I thought the blue stitching was an odd choice. When I saw the watch face it made sense. Looks beautiful as a complete watch.
  18. I love the carving, but the the coloring is just fantastic. Truly a very impressive piece of work. Good luck in the competition.
  19. In my opinion the laser is another tool on your bench. Was Dark Side of the Moon less musical because Pink Floyd used synthesizers?
  20. Wow, that is really nice work. Not a huge IM fan, but l'm a fan of that strap.
