My sincere sympathy to both of you. I lost my brother to suicide over thirty years ago and still often think of him. I have 2 sons now and one is the same age as when my brother died, I can’t imagine the pain you must go through. @texback That is some beautiful work! I hope you continue to show more of your work here and that you find some peace of mind while working with Leather. Ger.

Love your work ethic, I will try to remember to use in my work. Only problem is your customers must have a lot of patience having to wait?

Rossr, is that shop just for you? Wow! Now that’s a workshop! Because you have every machine you should ever need... Do you make your living from leather work? Or do you have another income?

LOL !!!

Conway buckle question
KingsCountyLeather replied to glockanator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I made two of them for my brother and his son in law, I used the screw in case they needed to adjust it in the future. another time I made a similar sling but it had a more elaborate connection. -
I follow him on Instagram. I haven’t bought anything from him but I have bought some tools from Kevinlee4426 the quality is great and sharp out of the box. picture below shows on the left Kevinlee4426 tools and on the right Tandy tools. I’ve also bought awls, skiving knife and a mallet. Love the quality and the prices are very good.

Lol... maybe it is a little over the top! I found it so I used it. I can almost get a proper stamp without any pressure from me. By the way it was a 1 tonne and I’d say it’s probably 3 tonne now!

The darts can stay... but if I can convince the kids to sell the exercise machine, move the office desk into the house then I’d have more room for other leather stuff! I’d even make a corner for a new stitching clam http://leatherworker.net/forum/profile/67331-mjolnir/ if you’d like to make me one?? also, what compressor are you using with the airbrush?
-
Ok... you all have inspired me to clean up my workshop today! It’s cramped but it’s the best it’s going to get. it used to be my office but now a desk in the corner is good enough. My sons also use it to exercise “sometimes”. The books I bought from other retired leather workers. The leather on the table I bought from a shoe factory that closed about 10 years ago, there’s at least 30 skins there.

I’m not very experienced... but I made one earlier this year with a Conway buckle and it is working fine. -

Beautiful job again! You are an inspiration! It’s such a great help for us new to leather craft to see in detail how you make your project and also to see how you over come your mistakes. Thank you! Looking forward to your next project.... by the way, like your work shop.- 31 replies

Mjolnir started this thread from a discussion on another thread, and what a great thread! Its fantastic to see all the different workshops and spaces everyone has. And I have picked up some great ideas to add to my own workshop... Thank you The work space I’m most impressed with so far was on the original thread before this one... and it’s by Joseph1836 I hope he doesn’t mind me posting his work shop here for him. It’s amazing what you can achieve with so little a work shop! please keep posting your work spaces!

The best stitching clam I’ve come across is made by a French guy, but I don’t he’s making them now because of bad health... I notice that Nigel Armitage bought one.
-
A lot going on in your work space... you have to show a pic!!!
-
mjolnir, nice stitching clam! Where did you come across that?

-
Brilliant! Did you make them yourself? What steel are they made from? I bought a 20 tonne hydrolic clicker press a couple of months ago (going cheap). I haven’t used it yet. I would love to make my own clickers.

Have we seen your workshop? -
Fabulous idea! Lovely work! You must have a leather clicker press for doing this? Are these for show or are they real armour?

Black Craftool Poly Maul durability?
KingsCountyLeather replied to ContactCement's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I started leather crafting this year... and wont say exactly how much ive spent on tools already but a lot! I will never get my money back from sales and anything ive made so far has been gifted to someone. I’m at a stage in my life where ive worked for more than forty years and not much time for myself. This is my new hobby and I “can” afford some nice tools. But... The leathercraft trade doesn’t require all these nice tools to make good work! Sharp tools good knowledge I think are the most important and good leather! It’s nice to have a good mallet and it may make you feel like you’re getting a better job, But you can use a lot of things as a hammer... -
Someone once said a bad workman blames his tools when things go wrong... I’ve been my trade for nearly forty years and I continually look for better tools. Every day I learn how to make my work a little better and in turn make my customers happier. The joy we get from a really good quality tool “has” to make our work better. So... The truth is, a good workman is entitled to blame his tools when things go wrong!

Precision/neat work with Landis 1
KingsCountyLeather replied to Alexis1234's topic in How Do I Do That?
Beautiful work on the harness! I’m 55 and only started leather crafting this year... I remember well working with draft horses on the farms. Because I come from the country side in Ireland, There were a few farmers still working with horses up to the mid seventy’s. The first time I sat on the bare back of a draft mare it was like doing the splits! I was only about 8 or 9yo though.
