  1. Thanks for this excellent help. I've been pondering a trip to Tandy (2.5 hrs each way) but in the cupboard under my bench I have two of the three! Whoo Hoo Why cant we give helpful votes? Harry
  2. Thank you for the update, will look at cost of shipping to uk, and decide on items. Best Harry
  3. The neatsfoot oil I used on my Brookes Cycling saddle was quite pungent... even before I'd ever used it. Its put me off the stuff ever since. I'd love to find an equivalent that has no smell.
  4. Are you looking for roller buckles, or with in built in keepers? I have seen some in the UK https://www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/p/9844/brass-buckles-fittings/mw/brass-plain-oval-buckle-50mm Other saddlery or harness suppliers may have them.
  5. But Chris, I spend all day talking to the music player, and for some reason its replying in French at the moment (honest), sometimes I miss the contact of working in a thousand plus employee organisation, hence keeping the consulting options open, and boy do they want to buy leathergoods when they find out you make them. It can be bittersweet, but if I had to do one, I'd opt for the less well paid leathergoods option.
  6. I was going through some very olf bookmarks on my pc from about 2001, and visited bighousedaddy site, for the first time in a gazillion years. The heading is the tag that "Bighousedaddy hasd went to be with THE MASTER craftsman" http://www.bighousedaddy.com/ Does anyone have any information on this stalwart of the business, I always liked his patterns and wondered if they were still available, and if so, where from and if they'd work on win10. Thanks Harry
  7. I find it splits quicker than real.... Hang on a minute, that means I would have to replace it more often, so I would need more bottles opened. I like your thinking.
  8. Rockoboy is spot on, if you search for a wad or hole punch you should turn up some local to you. I got mine through a normal hardware store years ago. Best and welcome to the forum Harry
  9. I am up to 65 corks per awl, and drinking fast.. that doesn't include the screw tops, boxes and plastic that I have had to throw out! Regarding nothing at all, did you know that good quality single malt whiskey has a cork glued to plastic, 'awl stand' or 'needle cushion' in its neck? Muscht dasssh Hic Harry
  10. One is where you are responsible to yourself, the other is a reversal, as you are responsible to a customer. When you get recognised as the best, people will accept creativity takes longer than they expect. My bane is "bread and butter stuff" that pays for day to day, but is oftentimes boring, when I'd rather be doing a one off expensive thing. Thankfully I had "know the break even point" drummed into me. If the bread and butter stuff becomes tedious you get disenfranchised too, so keep it keen, with betterment or improvements, as Fredk said. I am always astonished at how much higher than "generally acceptable" my minimum standard are, so people are usually content with goods. Most of all, enjoy as much of it as you can. Also living in a country that has a good market for western goods must be a godsend. I am a tad envious.
  11. Cool, thanks, it does not show on my tablet, so I 'll check on the pc later. Best Harry
  12. Does anyone know if they have an English language website? My German is pretty much limited to food and drink, I know archetypal English man.
  13. As Chris says, ex forces qualify.... I was in Financial Services Regulation as a Government Employee here and overseas which qualified me for Costco Membership, but not sure about Tandy Elite (maybe I should ask) I have written to a German Leather goods producer, with whom I went to college, to ask for his view on the Geman company, as I don't know if I am comparing apples and apples. Best H
  14. Thank you so much, I do know of JTB, Matt, I first went there in 1983, from college, and was due to fro in last week, but was dragged to Millbank with my other hat on. I would love them to up their online presence. Can I personal message you ref tomorrow? Best Harry
  15. Thanks Chris Who'd have thunk it... Brass joining screws, obviously, There's me calling them Chicago screws, library posts, library screws etc, never heard that name before. Will call them tomorrow. Best Harry

  17. Thank you Nlfrchief, that's what I wondered, having seen one of their other books. I may still get it for the background, Welcome to the forum . Best Harry
  18. Looks good thank you. Still intrigued to see the book... My library has dipped out, so not in any UK library as they can all share. I am looking at ebay so watch this space... Harry
  19. On a related point, does anyone know of a good UK supplier? I need some brass 4mm Chicago screws, in the next day or two, and everywhere online is Dec 6 to Jan 27 delivery, that I can find. I see to use a fittings and findings company in Manchester but old age has not helped in remembering their name.
  20. I could have been helpful... When young I saw some Nordic writing and set out to understand it. Nah, that sounds too stiff upper lip for me. Spot on Scoobie Brilliant explanation, thanks Fred. Wish I could remember the whole of it now, but it helped when I read Lord of the Rings. Best to all Harry
  21. This applies even to finished, manufactured goods, with any of the banned products in them.
