My first question is how did he manage to break them, was he hitting with a hammer to try and shift some nut or using a extension bar, different ways to apply force

I use poly cutting board with a spare piece of old leather between the chisel and the board. most times the chisel never touches the board. I use the french style (slits instead of diamonds)

What are the blackout blinds for Wiz, not much call for them in the UK that I know of

There may well be a difference on the same machine by someone who sews the odd 15min to maybe 1 hour, than someone who spends all the working day using the machine making small changes to the tensions throughout the day. The skill of professionals should not be underestimated just like any other skills

It for making the perforation's in Tea Bags

Are you holding both ends of the thread for the first few stitches tightly

What a great job you have done it looks fantastic I found that there are large differences in the sizes of shuttles for the 29's available, some seem to be for the 70 range and are a bit bigger than the older versions also the finish varied quite a lot, I was buying for a 29K53

Thats true Brian My problem is after trying 3D printer and small Laser, what would the sensible way to go 3D resin printer where you get exceptional details Limited resin choice Diode Laser slow but good quality limited to Acrylic in most cases 3D CNC router can do ally and acrylic Life gets complicated especially if your a hobby person rather than investing in assets for a company

In the UK there are quite a number of spare parts available for the 29K71 series, some may also work o the 53, these are new or original items. you may find a supply in your country where ever that may be see https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/parts-by-machine/singer-sewing-machine-parts/singer-29k-71-parts As Kgg states the handwheel that fits on the front makes life a lot easier and it the needle plate is held on by tape, that could be the sign of a well used and poorly maintained machine.

What sort of size impression plate could a large clicker press use on leather. looking on Etsy they generally seem quite small, but i guess there would be a market for large embossing plates say up to A4 size in the future which traditionally would be done by tooling, a bit like selling prints of artwork rather than the original. Lots of belts are made the same way. Guess it rely's on the power of the press, bigger size = more power= more cost

May just fit but a tight squeeze and at its limits same with 207 if your lucky but normally 138 max

People selling just seem to pick prices out of the sky just hoping a idiot will see there ads The Singer Featherweight seems to vary from about 150 to thousands, not sure what is so special about them. Ebay in the UK seems to have the majority of industrial machines at silly money with the ads rolling over time after time until so idiot gets hooked, though the under about £400 tend to fly off the shelf, When i had a 29K the base units were offered at £70-400 quite a vary in price without the machine

Breaking strength of a row of stitches
chrisash replied to chrisash's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
So 8 stitch per inch would have a staggering 132 lbs = 60 kilo, boy does that put things into perspective Does it still apply if the pressure is at one end of the row, which would maybe be the normal pressure point on many items Toledo gives the 11lb breaking strain for bonded 69, what sort of variance do you think there is for other makes of bonded 69 -
Often wondered about how much strength is required to break a row of say 69 thread, as I assume the strength would not be just one stitch but spread over a few stitches each to a lesser amount. So whilst 69 bonded nylon has a breaking strain in the region of 11 pounds, what force would it take to break say a one inch length of stitches (ignoring the material and tensions etc)

The Juki Juki DU-1181N is really the start leather machine but only light to medium leather

3/4 or 1 Horse Power Servo Motor?
chrisash replied to NewToSewing's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I think it's fair to say that in the UK brushless 550 watts are the most popular but the price difference between 550 and 750 watt is now minimal so you might as well buy the more powerful one and get a bit more starting omph -
Junker & Ruh Unknown machine ( S918 / Nr. 22 / SD28 )
chrisash replied to Middelbosch's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
There is quite a lot of information on the SD28 machine on this forum, the main thing is the very hard to find needles and from other comments they seem to consider about £7. $8 ish per needle if you ever find one Fair bit on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=SD28 -
This Art Form Is Going Straight To Hell
chrisash replied to Reegesc's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Could you not use a DC to Ac converter along with a modern servo motor with or without a speed reducer, if you are relying on DC as your only power source -
Sorry but Quality control is the real key to it all, some firms have it set to high standard and some to a lower standard, but that is not unique to China or any other country I cannot say with hand on heart that all manufactured goods in the UK are designed or built for long life and i guess most others can say the same about goods from their own countries The only real reason goods went to the Far East was cheap labour that meant local manufacture was unprofitable and China is now finding the same problems itself I imagine many thousands of poplar leather workers machines are made in the far east giving many years of good service. Unfortunately quality comes at a price; and top quality a even higher price

Whilst veg tan bags look great, they are also very heavy and expensive to make with the price of veg tan. Chrome is used on millions of bags, cars and upholstery for a good reason, they are lighter, nearly waterproof, available in many sizes and thousands of pre died colours, softer and very cheap Unfortunately many forums, books promote veg tan 100% rather than both types, so a lot of leather workers never explore chrome leather Yes chrome leather is crap for holsters and men's belts and some other items, apart from maybe linings, but great for soft wallets and the like

I would use Brian's suggestion, but with Nylon rather than PVC as a gentler material than PLA on the blade Another way would be to make a tip cap with that ballistic material Kydex
