Any rivet will do that if the leather isn't glued or sewn together just don't set them tight if they have a small head use washers on them so they don't pull through.

i use pig suede alot the stuff i get is about 1 mm and soft as any thing else you could use.

use a resist on anything you dont want dyed first. i use a small brush wipe the excess off so it doesn't drip. Some folks do use the fillable markers

you need a wooden or plastic mallet or maul, or plastic deadblow hammer, dont use steel on steel or you will ruin your stamps no matter where you bought them. How hard you hit it depends on the stamp size and shape, how heavy the mallet is, no real way to explain but it just takes practice. When your leather is properly cased then the impression will have a burnished look.
