  1. beautiful!!! Do you sew the pieces to a backer? if so how thick?
  2. show us a picture if ya can. i could make them on my lathe but as you said you can make them on your drill press it would be simple. rough out your shape drill and glue your shank in and finish turn it using a round file. in fact you could make a bigger one for your press or a hand drill that wouldn't wear out as quick.
  3. You can whack stuff with it! lol Looks good for kindling too. Great looking sheath
  4. i'll bet he /she is! that is really nice.
  5. i use a canon. what i do is download them to my computer then open them with the pcs browser ( windows ten) left click brings up a menu with resize, i use "best for emails or messages" save it to that size and post. i can post about three before going over the limit, then i just quote myself and add more.
  6. here is some good info on setting rivets and how they should be attached to the main piece, rivets are designed so the stress is on the post not the head if you install rivets with the stress on the head they will failrivets1.pdf. More info is in "the art of making leather cases, vol1" By Al Stohlman. rivets1.pdf
  7. in this case if the rivet heads don't give the leather will just pull off over the heads anyways sooner or later. Or they will get loose and the tab will spin on them and the buckles will drop. Rivets are the wrong method of attaching IMO. But yea those rivets are pretty weak. Hit em like you live!! fast and hard! old rough neck saying lol.
  8. i just noticed his britches were on the table lol, must be a hot day down there. PS that knife is sweet!!
  9. So then is he the only one? Both the dealer and the leather are bad. they should at least reimburse you for that crap. They have the ability to inspect their orders from the manufacturers and return bad leather just as you should its not your job its theirs.
  10. You aren't installing the leather tab properly. all the stress is on the head of the rivet which is incorrect. It doesnt matter how you set the rivet it wont hold that way. Your leather tab/belt thingy needs to go through a slot in your back panel and be riveted on the backside so the stress is on the shank of the rivet not on the head of the rivet. BUT in your piece i can see from past experience this may make the tab stick straight out at the wrong angle unless you form it to lay flat. I would sew the tabs on the front side and forget rivets completely. By making the tabs long enough, and finished on both ends, to put the three holes in it also then sew each side up to the rivet point leaving the tongue free to slide into the buckle.
  11. thrift stores or goodwill i bought my last one for a buck and its an old good one.
  12. Hi looking forward to your input. Wiz knows his machines read his stuff, he's done alot of work putting together some good info.
  13. great sheath and i love those knives, i have three a skinner a boner and a chefs knife i love old hickory knives great steel. they've butchered a lot of critters!!
  14. oh heck yea bank fishing is booooring unless you are catching of course. i fly fish too, mostly nymphs. My love however is brookie fishing in the mountains with just a hook and a worm. We go out to the lake to catch smoking size trout and walleyes for the winter. When I'm not using a sinker for bait i use my canoe and throw spoons or jig for walleys.
  15. i dunno i just took the pic off the net. had the brain fart about rocks and when the snow melts I'm going to go get some of em too. I've river surfed with my kayak years ago, its a kick in the ass and my helmet did come in handy a few times. But yea now I just fish too, sometimes lol, sometimes i just tie on a sinker and set and drink beer and watch the wife fish.
  16. yea and they are sustainable, environmentally friendly and all the other new buzz words. lol
  17. cool indeed!! I never really understood buying a name but i guess some folks live that way. my problem isn't the high end stores it s the cheapo Chinese crap they sell for pennies on the dollar. Its hard to compete with a government owned business that employs prisoners, children and pays slave wages to everyone else. The Chinese run tik tok will use his info to steal their construction methods and then undercut even those big names.
  18. great lookin basket weave and dye job.
  19. great copy he should be pleased. the only thing i would change is to turn the strap / snap around so it doesnt catch on stuff and come open
