  1. Thanks no it doesn't i thought it would but its not noticeable at all. lol that comes from living in Wyoming to long.
  2. thanks!! your work does inspire folks lol.
  3. most cannons are mounted on wheels lol but your holster is some awesome work indeed
  4. Thanks Fred you know i was thinking about your your hat bands and contemplated making the band a bit wider and adding about three 22 cal bullet loops on each side.
  5. get the msds sheet don't rely on what people "tell" you about any chemicals. https://archpdfs.lps.org/Chemicals/Leather-Dye_Tandy.pdf
  6. So after searching the globe for a new ball cap and not finding anything i liked i decided to just make one. Pulled a wallymart hat on close out for 4 bucks. Made it into oil cloth first then added the brim and band. It is dyed and finished only with antiquing and super shene, Skived the edges so it doesn't look bulky and sewed it on with my Chinese shoe patcher. I screwed up a few stitches but the patcher didn't, it ran flawlessly. This was the test run for my patcher and my it did great I'll be selling these bad boys they are soooo redneck lol.
  7. you need to be truthful with him and if he still wants them then make them if you want. You are right they wont hold up that's why your don't see hair on elk woolies I imagine its been tried more than once in the few thousand years of leather crafting., another thing is elk hide isn't that strong compared to other deer species( from the book deerskins into buckskins) so you may need a backing like woolies have. woolies are meant to keep your butt warm in the winter i dont know how well an elk hide will do that.
  8. just to let you know they are heavy and not water proof i'm in the process( thinking stage) of building a day pack. I'm leaning toward a pack similar to the old swiss "salt and pepper" military pack, using oil cloth canvas with leather bottom and straps. just finished dying my canvas then i'm gonna make it oil cloth.
  9. i'm sorry it just hit me as funny, but ya gotta wonder what the person was doing when that crossed their minds to try lol. I tried some once but didn't like the taste .........ruined a perfectly good peanut butter sammich lol. But i would try it too if i had any.
  10. i about shot beer out my nose on that one!!
  11. Sweeeet! I tried super shene yesterday only because i was doing a quick sheath out of scraps just doused the thing then thought why not try burnishing while its still damp. And it worked well also. cool indeed i have been wanting to try making some hide glue now i have a reason.
  12. the gut is doin good thanks I get some coffee now and some spicy lol. Man that is a good price about 5$ a pound. I would love that my fire pit is about 2 foot deep in snow lol. But summers coming it was finally above 0 f yesterday for the last week we have been minus, all the roads were closed off and on, our stores ran out of fresh produce and milk and such. My wife bought about ten lbs of beef tallow, we use it to cook, flavor and add fat to our wild meat. the fat flavor is the best part of beef. Save it for your roo burgers!!
  13. wow that is really cool.
  14. i use weldwood its good stuff and in most hardware stores.
  15. or you can line it completely and just use a card slot for the check book backing to fit in. But my point is the leather at the fold has to be the same thickness all the way across the item or it will do weird stuff.
  16. nice, That'll hold your britches up! i like the blue thread!!
  17. https://www.wawak.com/thread/thread-by-use/upholstery-heavy-duty/coats-extra-strong-s964-nylon-upholstery-thread-tex-70-150-yds/#sku=thdb2820
  18. then if you want a really nice fold skive it.
  19. take out the "reinforcement", problem solved. All the patterns for check books i have use two pieces inside for the pockets not one with a slot in it. your overthinking things to much.
