take out the "reinforcement", problem solved. All the patterns for check books i have use two pieces inside for the pockets not one with a slot in it. your overthinking things to much.

i quickly looked at one of the patterns i have 2 -2 1/2 oz inside and 4 oz on the outside is called for in it. I think you could get by with 5 oz on the outside if you want. oh and it calls for two separate pieces inside for the pockets so no reinforcement along the edge.

i use both while working on projects mm's are much easier to figure than fractions but then if you use older patterns and most American made instruction books they are in inches so you have to adapt a bit to get something built. Its just the world we live in today lol.

The direction of the flag in the picture is ok. the field of stars is always towards the pole when hung outside or carried or if on an arm patch the field will be to the front of the person. We wore our flag patch on the right arm so the field was on the right facing forward when looking at it. when it is hung on a wall you are correct in its positioning.
