Leather Fringe I'm Obsessed With!
chuck123wapati replied to TanneryNYC's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I've always lived on the fringe, nothing quite like it. -

When i do a tooling pattern, i usually do some practice on scrap first then if it looks good I'll make it into a key fob and send it along too. i guess a guy could do the same with their logo.

I'm gonna have to get me that book some day. Nope not me, it would be about 5/6 oz doubled i don't see why it wouldn't hold cartridge's. and a few silver dollars or even a pistol and knife. Maybe they were made thin so they were comfortable while riding a horse. Plus I don't think using them for a 100 years crossed their minds at all. I will add that is just one example of a cartridge money belt out of thousands made by different folks, they made things the way they wanted to just like us so leather choice was just that , personal choice, so make yours with whatever leather you want it wont be wrong. however folding thick leather like they were made will be a chore. As i understand it they were one piece folded at the bottom and sewn at the top.

wowzers that is really clean and nice looking tooling there.

there is a video here somewhere of a guy using one to make shoes.. i didn't know what they were either until then, but i did have one someone gave me its not a speedy stitcher but sucks just as bad IMO. i couldnt get mine sharp enough to use, guy in the video used it like an awl but i couldn't get mine sharp enough to push through leather. it makes the same stitch a sewing machine makes.

It takes a few days to get it working right, figuring out how it works and deciding what thread and needle you want. I had a lot of pointers to help me from the guys on here and THANKS to each of you for the help.
