  1. I was going to suggest the M&G, but like Chuck, I remember the last time that came up.
  2. Yes, acrylics will freeze. But unless you are having them shipped this isn't an issue. Once it is applied and dry, freezing isn't a problem.
  3. There is no such number as 'enuf'. My wife told me I have enuf rifles. I laughed for a long time at that one.
  4. I assume these are the 'rough on both sides' splits. The only use I've found for them is to thicken lighter leather. They have no structural strength.
  5. Red Wings we have in great abundance. Most all the roadside ditches have cattails and they are full of the RWs. We have a few Yellow Headed Blackbirds, but they are more common northeast of here.
  6. Good to see you are still with us. I always liked Cardinals, but we don't have them u here in the PNW.
  7. I lived on that side for a year and a half. Too wet and too many people, so I moved back to the DRY side.
  8. Greetings! Welcome to the group. Where in Washington?
  9. It looks like Florentine lacing. Something I have no seen available for some time. I have a similar reair to do for a friend, but can't find the appropriate lace.
  10. First, I do have the petulant child on ignore, but when y'all quote him it still shows up. And in answer to his stupid question above; NO, BECAUSE AS WE HAVE TOLD HIM OVER AND OVER, M&G IS NOT, NOT NOTA FLOOR CLEANER!! Would I use them AFTER I cleaned the floor? YES, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME DAMN THING AS M&G, AN ACRYLIC VARNISH!!!
  11. Personally I don't use ANY of the acrylic garbage on my leather. Nor do I put varnish on good wood. But you choose to use it, fine. But acting like a petulant child when a dozen people have recommended M&G as opposed to the same thing in a different bottle just makes you look foolish. With that, I will put you and your petulance on the Ignore list. Life is too short to deal with pigheaded foolishness.
  12. And copping an attitude gets you put on the 'Ignore' list. These people have a couple hundred years combined experience. When you ask folks a question maybe listen to what they tell you. And for the record, I don't know of ANYTHING that is 'forever' like you are looking for.
  13. ALL leather is split to a more or less uniform thickness throughout.
  14. In that case, back stitch 2-3 stitches and cut flush with the surface, no flame needed.
  15. Bob Klenda had an article about them in one of the last couple Saddler's Journals. I will look when I get done with chores.
  16. Looks a lot like a halberdman that was wondering what to do now that the war is over.
  17. No, absolutely not. But then I do not use nylon or polyester threads or put acrylic finishes or aints on leather. Nor do I use a sewing machine. Oddly, my life is not diminished because of that. And yes, There is fish leather.
  18. You CAN stamp and tool it, just as other veg tan. But it will be much harder to see your tracing and guide lines.
  19. So here is a question about vegan leather. After they skin the vegans, is it chrome tanned or veg tanned?
  20. Great idea! And on a smaller scale I would think painting pads would work as well. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
  21. I have. I currently don't have Pro Dye, but here is a link to the MSDS for it. It is all alcohol. Microsoft Word - Dye Reducer_GHS (springfieldleather.com)
  22. For the record, I just use denatured alcohol for reducing. I've even used 99% isopropyl. Either one gives fine results. Also, screw the cap on the bottle really tight and shake the stuffing out of it. Mix it up really well.
