  2. Be aware that you can wash deerskin in the washing machine. I wash my buckskins at the end of each rondy season. Wash cold with laundry SOAP, not detergent. Tumble in the dryer with no heat or hang dry on a good breezy day. You will need to do some stretching after it's dry.
  3. The state did that in the area I used to hunt. And to close the roads, they went in and 'thinned' the trees, felling them across the road. The last time I was in there, those dead dry trees were so thick I could hardly walk up what used to be a road. Now, not only can't they get there for a fire, they've created the fuel to make it a major fire.
  4. That explains a lot. I quit using Tandy's products years ago.
  5. I've never heard of 'Brown Bison'. Is that one of their EcoFlo products?
  6. With the two I mentioned, think 'car wax'. They will seal, but they are not permanent. I think the only way to stop rub off is to rub it until it stops coming off.
  7. It looks like decent leather. "Genuine leather" is a boogie man that many like to kick around, without any real basis. What you are dealing with is upholstery that has seen hard use with no real care. It's probable that someone tried to refurbish it without any knowledge of what they were doing. I would clean it with saddle soap, rub it down good and give it a coat of Feibing's Leather Balm or Bee Natural's Leather Finish. I don't think you will ever get those lines and spots to look like the rest of it.
  8. Looks like real leather to me.
  9. My first thought was ZZ Top. But yes, what does that have to do with leather?
  10. Very nice!
  11. I replaced the plastic hinges on a cooler with leather, still going strong 15+ years later.
  12. .....And where did you get the lizard skin?
  13. I just put it on Ignore.
  14. I made a few these some time back. I made a special one for a girlfriend from long ago. I hope she put it up.
  15. Looks good, she will love it.
  16. From all the guarantees and warranties that I have seen through the years, none of them cover owner negligence or abuse. I have a friend that makes custom knives. They come with a lifetime guarantee, as long as you don't abuse the knife. I know of two that he has replaced, and five people that were just out of luck for doing stupid things. I have never seen a 'no questions asked guarantee'.
  17. Not really. While skunks CAN cause a stink (pun not intended), for the most part they do not. As a kid I had 6 baby skunks that lived in the wood shed, ate with our cats , and let us pet and hold them. They stayed around the farm for several years.
  18. A couple of my rondy buddies have skunk skin hats. They aren't common, but not rare either.
  19. I should point out that at 70 years old, the length of my 'guaranteed for life' is getting shorter by the day.
  20. I guarantee most things I make for life. Exceptions are belts, wallets, dog collars and some horse projects.
  21. Well done.
