  1. Having dealt with hair-on elk, I would discourage it. They will shed terribly and end up with bald spots.
  2. I buy these chopping mats at the Dollar store (which is a $1.25 store these days) and use them to protect my bench top when dying or using cement. They wipe clean with alcohol.
  3. Same here, but my son pulled mine out of a pile they were using for fill on a construction site.
  4. Welcome! Lots of knowledge and advice to be found here.
  5. Nicely done.
  6. No, the ones I've seen are just the goatskin lined with the fabric.
  7. No, just on the front. 'Woolies' are frequently made as batwings and are lined with canvas.
  8. I use it making/repairing buckskins for rendezvous.
  9. Fabulous!
  10. Thank you.
  11. Looking GOOD! I've been wanting to make a pair of angora chaps.
  12. And I would recommend NOT using latigo as it will cause corrosion on your cases.
  13. Thanks. Did not use a stiffener. The two layers are quite stiff. I thought about some plastic cutting mats that I use when I dye, but really didn't want to use that much cement. Thanks.
  14. Welcome!
  15. Thanks.
  16. Beautiful!
  17. Thanks guys. The dark brown is Horween chrome tan, the main body is a mystery side I got at the Pendelton show a few years ago and the inside is chrome tan goat. The billet end is 7/8 veg tan, as it should hold up better than chrome.
  18. My son wanted a three ring to keep is proofs, and this is what I came up with. There are a couple of things I will change if I do another one, but I'm pretty happy with it.
  19. What is a 'chaffer'?
  20. I'm not sure I understand your point. The only threads I use are linen and sometimes hemp. I refuse to us synthetic threads for my handmade leather goods. Just my personal choice, but I don't use paint or varnish on my wood projects either.
  21. Very nice! Let us know how they hold up.
  22. Waaay cool!
  23. Nicely done.
