  1. Well, I think I like this design. It lets the gun sit in the holster well and it's easy to pull out. I can turn the holster 90 degrees and the gun will not fall out. It's molded to this form and the stitching in the forward 2 inches plus the tension screw under the trigger guard makes it very secure. Two layers of 7 - 8 ounce leather with a stiffener between them. It's a bit darker than I wanted. After the basket weave I dyed it Tan and then put some Tan Antique on it. The Antique made it this dark. ( I'm still learning how to dye ).
  2. Snake skin would work.
  3. Knifekit's.com is very good. I also found T-Nuts at Springfield Leather. Better for securing the base. You have to glue the Knifekit base.

Contact your local granite dealer. I scored a piece of 19 X 25 and the charge was ZERO. Ask for their remnants. They are willing to give them away.
  5. I'm just getting back into leathercrafting and have been ordering a lot from Tandy. I search for their ads and have gotten some good deals. I've ordered some items and have gotten a call saying I could get a better price if I upgraded. I stopped in today and was wearing my Air Force hat. Without asking they set me up for a 10 % discount for being ex military. All I had to do was show them proof. I didn't ask for the discount but they volunteered it. That was nice. They just reopened some of their stores in Phoenix. The salespeople are very helpful. I have a lot of questions when I brows the store and they are always answered. I'm also finding that there are other sources on line were I can get some better products. Cost from these retailers is much higher than Tandy but some are items that I thing I will need in the long run. Example, my rotary punch broke. Tandy only had their cheapest one in the store so I ordered on line and found one with replaceable screws at a good price.
  6. I finished this holster for my Smith & Wesson. The tricky part was because of the red dot sight on top. Not many leather holster makers these days for this type of gun so, a few days and a lot of fun plus practice... Still having trouble with dyeing. I bought some cosmetic daubers today and will try them next. Also, I used an antiquing and I think it's too dark. I went to Tandy today and bought some antiquing made for the dye I'm using.
  7. Found a nice piece of granite today. Measures 25 X 19 and is just right for my cutting board. It's only 1.5 inches thick so I hope it lasts. I told the salesman what I was using it for and he didn't charge me. Nice place.
  8. Try Tandy Leather. I picked one up Friday. The local stores are now open for business.
  9. The cardboard I found at Tandy is actually bag stiffener. It was $ 8.99 for the sheet, enough for years and cuts easily with a utility knife.
  10. Yes, there is a decorative washer under each screw so that they don't damage the leather. I was able to find all the Chicago Screws and accessories from Knifekits.com Springfield Leather also had T-Nuts which I will use on my next holster. Lowes also sells the T-Nuts and screws and washers and they are just around the corner from me. Also there is no shipping charge or wait time if I go to Lowes.
  11. I use 110 pound card stock. I can put it in my printer as well and copy templates. The card stock really helps. I even found some for A4 size patterns. I was at Tandy today and found some heavy duty cardboard that is perfect for templates. One roll will last me years.
  12. Here's a picture of the gun that the holster is for. Having that Red Dot sight on top created the biggest problem in finding a holster that would work.
  13. Right. The top of the holster is open except for the last three inches. The set scew is just in front of the trigger guard. By tightening the screw the gun is securely set for when there is any movement required. I'll post a picture of the gun when I can.
  14. Three Tandy Stores opened for traffic today in Phoenix. They have been doing local shipping for the past two weeks. I went in today. There is a limit of only 5 people in the store at one time. They lock the door until someone leaves and then let in the next person. Sales people were extremely friendly and helpful. They had a lot of stock, just about every peg was fill and leather was stacked on the tables. I managed to pick up some pig skin lining and a few other small items. I like it better than ordering on line and having to wait to get what I want. I can also see what I'm getting.
  15. No one makes a leather holster for my highly modified Ruger set up for competition. I decided to copy a newer style holster but with a few extra details. The holster is lined with felt and has Chicago Screws holding the belt loop on and a tension screw to make sure the gun doesn't move. The stitching is all yellow thread to make it a little different. I like the pattern and will make another holster for my revolver next ( I've got to wait a week because I ran out of Barge Cement). Any comments or critiques are appreciated.
  16. Awesome looking holster. Colors are great and it looks like the fit and finish are top notch.
  17. Very nice tooling. I would not harden it. As and archer I think the brace should be soft, the string will not hurt you and you can move more with it not hardened. Just my opinion. Good luck. You nailed it.
  18. Most excellent work on the outstanding bag. Photography is awesome too.
  19. Wonderful looking wallet. Great shop. Luck with it.
  20. Very nice tooling. Remember it's not the bow it's the Indian that makes the difference.
  21. Check out Montana Leather. I just bought a set of basket weave stamps from them and am very happy with the set. Four different sizes.
  22. Very nice. Nice way to spend time with your leatherwork. Inspirational.
  23. Most excellent work!!! Nice design and I love the depth of the tooling. Can't find anything I would change.
