Found a nice piece of granite today. Measures 25 X 19 and is just right for my cutting board. It's only 1.5 inches thick so I hope it lasts.
I told the salesman what I was using it for and he didn't charge me. Nice place.
Yes, there is a decorative washer under each screw so that they don't damage the leather. I was able to find all the Chicago Screws and accessories from Knifekits.com Springfield Leather also had T-Nuts which I will use on my next holster. Lowes also sells the T-Nuts and screws and washers and they are just around the corner from me. Also there is no shipping charge or wait time if I go to Lowes.
I use 110 pound card stock. I can put it in my printer as well and copy templates. The card stock really helps. I even found some for A4 size patterns.
I was at Tandy today and found some heavy duty cardboard that is perfect for templates. One roll will last me years.
Here's a picture of the gun that the holster is for. Having that Red Dot sight on top created the biggest problem in finding a holster that would work.
Right. The top of the holster is open except for the last three inches. The set scew is just in front of the trigger guard. By tightening the screw the gun is securely set for when there is any movement required. I'll post a picture of the gun when I can.
Three Tandy Stores opened for traffic today in Phoenix. They have been doing local shipping for the past two weeks.
I went in today. There is a limit of only 5 people in the store at one time. They lock the door until someone leaves and then let in the next person.
Sales people were extremely friendly and helpful. They had a lot of stock, just about every peg was fill and leather was stacked on the tables. I managed to pick up some pig skin lining and a few other small items. I like it better than ordering on line and having to wait to get what I want. I can also see what I'm getting.
No one makes a leather holster for my highly modified Ruger set up for competition. I decided to copy a newer style holster but with a few extra details.
The holster is lined with felt and has Chicago Screws holding the belt loop on and a tension screw to make sure the gun doesn't move. The stitching is all yellow thread to make it a little different.
I like the pattern and will make another holster for my revolver next ( I've got to wait a week because I ran out of Barge Cement).
Any comments or critiques are appreciated.
Very nice tooling. I would not harden it. As and archer I think the brace should be soft, the string will not hurt you and you can move more with it not hardened. Just my opinion. Good luck. You nailed it.
You have inspired me. What a great looking bag. You should be proud of your work. I downloaded a pattern from leatherbagpattern.com myself, a duffle bag, that I think will make a good shooting bag.
Keep up the good work.
