  7. NICE !!!!!!!!! I love the molding plane , is the iron made from an old file ? The splatted maple is beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have in the past toe-screwed a known straight board on the off side to get that initial table saw cut , it just has to be wider than your stock .
  8. @RockyAussie Here is the scoop on this and Thanks for the kind words .
  9. Frodo has started me thinking ............................ Does design fall under " artistic " skill ? I know I have a check list that I try to go by . 1 Does it serve the purpose I had intended ? 2 Is it pleasing to the eye ( or at least not offensive ) ? 3 Is it done as simple and efficiently as possible while meeting #1 and 2 ? No carving , no stamping but maybe artfully done ? To me " art " is VERY subjective ! just 1 old mans views
  10. Very nice and I for one appreciate the " hand planed " aspect !!!
  11. Kind of a loaded question I think . There is no doubt in my mind that it takes more " skill " to carve . Now for the " art " part ........ what is art to you , what is art to me ? How long is a piece of rope ?
  12. Tell miss Anna that she did a very good job !!! Shows that determination more than the latest / greatest tools can get the job done and done well .
  13. Thanks fellows !!! He picked them up this morning and seemed please , at the very least it was a quick turn around and he can now finish them up . @Samalan didn't have a back picture but these are the patterns to give you an idea ( just plain and real simple ) what I did .
  14. Local knife guy wanted a couple in a hurry . He is not even through polishing and finishing the knives but let me have them for a couple of days for pattern and forming . This is our first project and he gave me free rein ( design , color , whatever , just wanted 2 sheathes ) so I haven't a clue if he will be happy .

  18. Maybe draw the inside lines on you paper/card stock pattern where you can erase if needed .Once you like them mark with a round awl as you trace your over all pattern . I have to get stuff right " on paper " all of the time but it saves me some leather .
  19. Hey Bert , while I don't know about holsters it looks pretty good to me. I think it would be even nicer to use a stitching iron or awl instead of drilling/punching your stitch lines .
