  1. Hey yall. First of all, yall are amazing. Thank you for this resource! I make festy pouch belts and Im having the darnest time finding belt tips or rein tips for 1 3/4 " belt! So, can any of you point me to 45mm (1 3/4") brass rein or belt tips? thank you! -Patches www.laughingleather.com
  2. I'm in the process of making a bag and have the front and back panels dyed and got to thinking of the liner o want in it. I'm going to use a garment leather for this and was wondering how to attach it. The bag shape has a "dip" in the middle of the front and back panels and I'm wondering if a drop in liner would work around that curve. Or if I can bind a drop in liner or if I can even do a turned lining. I hope I can pick your brains for ideas on how to do this thanks.
  3. I am looking for a custom leather worker to do 300-350 (4"x 6") leather conference-style name badges. They can be embroidered/laser edged/embossed as long as they are finished by September of this year. If this interests you, please contact me at egraber@llenrock.com at your earliest convenience.
  4. Hi all Recently been at a show, a gent stood watching me carve a collar from start to finish, took nearly an hour, asked lots of questions, and at the end asked for three commissions for his sons, belts, two are easy one i am really stuggling with.... He wants a fantasy belt with dragons etc on. My initial thoughts where scenes from lotr or hobbit but i have discovered i cannot draw dragons, that small, belt is 40mm wide belt with 5 mm border. Ideally i want one breathing fire as each scene is to be framed with simple designs to reduce the cost of the belt and keep it in budget. I have done usual searches, but either to fiddly detail or not enough, just wondering if you fellow leatherworkers could help! Here is something similar to what i need! Thank you Pip
  5. I am new to this site. Thank you for allowing me to join you. I am trying to get into leather bag making and need to purchase an industrial machine. I have decided on the Consew. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the 206RB-5 and the Consew P1206RB? Which one would you recommend for bag making? I really appreciate as much feedback as you are willing to give.
  6. lately ive been looking at these and theyre very nice looking in my opinion. i was wondering if (1) this sort of wallet has a specific style and name ? and (2) around what would be the dimensions? (3) does anyone know where i could find any sort of pattern for this ?" thank you

(3) does anyone know where i could find any sort of pattern for this ?" i know i can just go and buy the wallet but that wouldnt be as satisfying as making it (i hope to speak for many of us leatherworkers) thank you

  10. Hello All, I've started doing more shows and fairs and I always struggle with displaying my belts... I was wondering if anyone had any stands that they use and rely on... something that makes it easy for customers to select the items they can hang and look nice. All help welcome!! Thank you Nu
  11. So I have no idea why this is happening, it was coated with waterstain and then acrylic resolene for the finish.I put a mild bend to it and it cracked and split. I really need some help with this please!!
  12. Hi All I am having some difficulty with a lego belt, ie carving lego blocks onto a belt. I just cannot get them to look right, either they look puffy or just wrong. Please help! Pip
  13. I think i will have a lot of very basic questions to start out??? Not sure if this is the right area. I want to practice with a swivel knife, but dont want to waste any tool leather, as i dont have any scrap yet, i do have loads of split leather, can i use this to practice on? Oh and loads of bags for full grain old leather scavanged from a leather couch. Thanks.
  14. So I acquired a singer 16-188 recently and I figured out how to thread it and I am pretty sure that I've got the top thread done correctly, the bobbin I'm not so sure about. I think I have got it correct but when I go to sew, it just tries and tries and tries but the bobbin thread just sits there and never gets picked up by the needle. Also the (I'm new to machine sewing so forgive me for my more than likely incorrect terminology.) feeder, the little guy with teeth that pulls the material along, isn't doing its job correctly and it's almost like the material wants to feed backwards from back to front?? Also I'm sure I don't have the correct needle or thread so I'd take any advice ya got for me on getting this old machine running. oh and for the time being I am using this machine without a motor, and just turning it to hand. Thanks in advance
  15. Hello all, I'm attempting to taper a collar for a customer, but as I've never done it before my first couple attempts were a disaster- uneven and ugly. Does anyone have any tips on how to taper? Tools I should be using? Thank you!
  16. My teflon coated glue pot with brush was left unused for over a year and is now stuck shut. Anyone have any ideas on how to "un-stuck" it? Thanks
  17. Hi everyone I'm a long time lurker, and almost always find my answers with out posting. You guys are great with all the support you put out there. I've found an old Consew 225 from a local guy who used it to do some upholstery work. I would be looking to use it as my first machine. I do a lot of wallets with about 4oz liners and more like 5-7 oz tooled outers, but have been wanting to be able to stich some guitar straps, maybe even a belt. I imagine that may be stretching it. As far as I know its just a clutch motor, and I may need to make some upgrades but I believe I can get it somewhere between 2 and 300$ and I can see it run before I buy? Do any of you all have any experience or pointers before I pull the trigger. I think it may be a little underpowered, but with some upgrades I think it may work? I've considered doing some lighter bag type Thanks all!
  18. I am planning on making a breast collar for my 4-H project this year. I made one last year but it was a very simple style. I want something with a little bit more flare this year and I cannot seem to find a single pattern on a different style of breast collar.
  19. My name is Kris, I am 24years old ((born1991)) I live with my sister, and great aunt and uncle, I live in Sierra Vista AZ my zip is 85650 but the city zip is 85635, I am currently unemploied, I still can not Drive as life currently has not permitted me to aquire that skill yet ((fancy way of saying I have not had the time to even get my permit.....great uncles a freaking slave driver.)) but I'm a hard worker with a few eccentricities, if you can look past them or ignore or even maybe accept them I'm sure we could actully grow to be good friends! I need a job close to home, preferabbly in this city but IF needed or availble or even offered I have no issues with moving in, or moving closer. I need the job so that I can earn money with out actully working ((after all, if you are doing what you love/enjoy then you never work a day in your life!)) and it will even enable me to move out at some point. please call or text me at 520-559-0095 if you would like to talk and possibly even meet up. and if your currious or are willing to maybe see if you can look past, ignore or possibly accept my eccentricities don't be afraid to ask about them!
  20. Hi! I have read a lot about edge burnishing but none of it looks like this. It almost looks like it has a wax type coating and i see this a lot on designer bags and overall bags at the stores. How is the edge done like this? It looks so even! Thank you so much!
  21. Hi all, does anyone out there know anything about the sewpro 1341 or sewpro 1342? Upon a YouTube search of the Juki ls 1341,I discovered this machine. The dealer,SEWPRO USA,happens to be located in Ephrata Pennsylvania, which happens to be in the heart of Amish and Menninite country. There is a large demand for horse products in this area which also happens to be close to me.I don't know anything about Sewpro USA or the quality of their sewing machines and was hoping someone out there would know something or have used their machines. The only thing I've heard is sewpro makes a great servo gear reduction motor, the 500GR. I am curious if anyone has experience with their sewing machines and if so are they of good quality?. I am assuming they are made in China but do not know this for a fact. I would love to have a Juki but the price is pretty hefty for my budget. I will be visiting the dealer early next week to check out the machines first hand and meet Sergey. Is there anything I should look for (red flags) poor quality, or on the other hand, well built and quality? I am hoping to find an industrial machine dealer in my area, that I can count on should the need for parts, support, etc.and not be a 700 mile drive should the need arise in the future. Any tips and input would be greatly welcome and appreciated! I'm hoping this turns out to be a good thing, and will let you all know the outcome. Thanks !
  22. Hello leatherworkers I have for the last year or so been using the Eco-Flo Professional Finishes and have had great results. I have just brought some Eco-Flo (standard) Finish and I am am not getting the same result. Before I was getting a nice smooth clear finish but now I am left with a poor finish that has a kind of white powdery finish. I am currently using the Eco-Flo water based dyes and find the colours good and have had no problems with the dye coming out even after several year heavy use. I have this week also brought some Fibbing's oil dyes and plan on testing these. My main question is can anyone suggest a good proofer/fisishing product that will work well with Eco-Flo water based dyes and Fibbing's oil dyes? I am making wallets, notebook cases, keychain ect. Also if anyone suggest a good proofer/fisishing product that will work well with tannery dyed leather? I am making handbag/satchels. Thanks for you Help. Dave
  23. I had a friend call the other day saying that a friend of a friend had a leather sewing machine they are looking to sell because the lady that owned it had past away(its now at the sons house) They said it came from an old saddle shop in Tucson that closed down years ago but the son saids his mom only use it to sew heavy clothes. The son found "o-mo ae206457" on the bottom of the machine. Any info would be great? I've built saddles and all kinds of tack but I've never had a leather sewing machine so I'm a bit lost. Sorry no pictures its a 2hour drive to go look at it.
  24. Hi all, I'm pretty new to tooling, and I notice that when the pros do their tooling they tend to work on big pieces of leather and they stay nice and flat while they're being tooled. I'm working on tiny things like fobs and patches, and about halfway through a project I find the leather curling up so bad it starts slapping the stone when I hit it anywhere but where I'm holding it down. I apologize if this is a well-answered problem--I've tried searching this forum but didn't find anything. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Dave Example attached. 8oz leather, approx 2.5" x 5", halfway through tooling.
  25. Hello All!!!! New to Leatherworker.net and I am in need of a Teacher for Leatherwork. I am interested in making horse tack, purses, belts, knife sheaths etc..etc.. I have the tools i just need some direction. I have basic leather tooling, stamping, dyes and paint down pretty well. I need help with assembly of projects Ie: Stitching, hardware, measurements, backings.... I need someone to instruct me while i do it myself since i dont learn well from just watching. I am willing to travel 2 hours from scottsdale to take lessons and pay whatever you charge. I have all basic tools to bring with me. Thanks Much- Samantha
