Made my first belt

Recommended Posts

So over dinner this last weekend my BIL mentioned he needed a new belt. I told him I would make him one.  He told me to make him one like his current belt but but a bit wider. I've never made a belt so I figured I'll make him something nice. Anyway this is what I made.

The last photo is a picture of his belt he gave me for measurement next to his new belt.

I learned alot on this build, the most important being make sure your buckle is on properly before setting the rivets lol. My fingers are sore from hand stitching but it was worth it. I know it has flaws but I'm very proud of this belt.

That is impressive. Something to be proud of!

The side by side picture is classic. On the old belt why would they punch holes all the way around?

I'm sure brother in law will be thrilled! I made my first belt for myself andv that's when I realized how nice a belt can be! Your camouflage works perfect, I thought you had a special basket weave stamp.

Beautiful belt. Certainly a far cry from the one he gave you to measure. The basket weave looks good running along the belt instead of at an angle on it. I do mine that way too. He should be very happy with that one.

Really a good looking belt . . . especially being the first one.

Do yourself a favor . . . ditch the rivets.

Put Chicago screws in there instead.  They are much easier to install . . . plus the rivets can come undone . . . Chicago screws don't do that.  It also allows the owner to change out the buckle if the need or desire ever comes.

May God bless,

Dwight

Thanks! I did ask him that. He said it was a extension strap for some harness his wife had in the tack room. It was never intended to be a belt.

Your right. I will definitely be using Chicago screws from now on.

Well to be fair, I screwed up my first 2 attempts on this belt. The first one I didn't quite understand how to measure it properly and cut it to short. Not a total loss because its still a clean blank for a youth belt.

The second attempt a screwed up the basket stamp right at the end and had to scrape it.

Do it! This was the most rewarding project I've done so far.
