  6. DON and REGIS, summed it up very good, only thing i can add is TO THINK TWICE, POUND ONCE.... make sure your surface has no bounce to it.... I am sure you are useing a piece of Marble. If it is not real thick, make sure you do have a very heavy or thick work surface.
  7. Regis.... when that happens. You were on the right track by useing an eraser. Next time that happens , get yourself one of those SANDING BELT cleaners, cut yourself about a 1/2''piece after the glue dryes, just erase it. When i have tried to use the cleaner or deglazer it just diluted the glue and all i was doing was just rubbing th glue in. good luck on the next one.
  8. I do a lot of black belts,and i use Satin Sheen as a finish and i have no rub off on clothes.

  16. AZMAL... THE ONES I MADE WERE MADE WITH TOOLING COWHIDE-- VEG TAN LEATHER. WHY, AFTER THEY WERE MADE I COULD WET THEM, AND GET THE RIGHT CROWN AND BRIM SHAPE. AFTER LOOKING AT THIS POST I FOUND MY PATTERN PACK THAT I GOT AT TANDY A .....LONG TIME AGO, I'M THINKING I WANT TO MAKE A LEATHER TOP HAT" LOOK OUT SLASH"
  17. gearsmithy, Copper would have no strength in it for buckles. check with the suppliers for"COPPER PLATED BUCKLES" you might be lucky with this search..
  18. Kevin, looking good....say what size thread are you useing.
  19. WOLVERNSTIEN..... use your buffing wheel with the fine grit(jewlers rouge) buff untill the tools shine. Use them, if the design is pitted, sell on e bay. i bet you will not see any bad marks on the leather.
  20. SKIP I HAVE SEEN THEM SEWN IN BETWEEN THE TWO LAYERS OF LEATHER AND ALSO ON THE BACK OF THE TOP PC OF THE THUMB BREAK. I HAVE MADE THEM FROM A HACKSAW BLADE, COULD NOT FIND SPRING STEEL TO MAKE THEM WITH.
  21. LLASSO... LOTS OF ELBO GREASE WITH THE WAY YOU ARE DOING. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH BARGE CEMENT, BUT WHEN I WANT TO KEEP IT CLEAN I DO COAT THE OUTSIDE WITH PAINTERS TAPE, SOMETIMES I HAVE COATED THE GLUE POT WITH VASELINE.
