Wanted to comment on your statement, slightly off topic."Craftsman Oak" is a Tandy leather, the name is likely to make people believe they are buying Herman Oak leather rather than leather imported from South America. It is not Herman Oak leather. I believe this slight of hand is likely one of the reasons that people comment that they tried Herman Oak leather and did not find it to be any better than the import leather they were using. If you are content with the import leather, I am happy for you. If you want better, there is Herman Oak ( and Wickett and Craig).

Can You Tell Me What These Unmarked Tools Are?
electrathon replied to AlabamaOutlaw's topic in Leather Tools
I do not recognize it either. Looked it up and found three possibilities, none of which made since in the context and one of which was vulgar and can not be posted here. -
Can You Tell Me What These Unmarked Tools Are?

What I am seeing looks like wood lathe tools. -
If you are not rolling the edge on the wallet leave all of the layers too long/untrimmed. Sew, then trim to size.

I have had good results dip dying pieces. It is easier to cover large areas fast.

When doing this style of slot here is what I do. I made a slot cutter out of box cutter blades and spacers. Bolted them together. I lay the clicker on the leather and put it in my book press. Press it down. The two close mounted blades leave a thin strip of leather. I use a straight edge to align a punch and cut a round hole at the end of the slot, leaving a clean area for the cards to slide through. This sample is just a quick example on a scrap. With a little time you can get perfect slots every time with this setup.

Take a piece of bailing wire and wrap it around your head. Adjust it till it fits. Leave room on the inside. -
Making A Leather Helm - How Do You Do The Inside Parts (Pics)

The short answer is get the leather very wet and pull it over a bowling ball. Let it dry, then trim to size. -
Ladies Clutch Wallet
electrathon replied to Bob Blea's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Your tooling looks great. The lacing looks like double loop, not triple loop to me. I may be wrong, hard to say for sure from the pics. I also would only do each hole twice around the corners. Also better lace (yknotlace) really helps a lot on the lace laying smooth. Aaron -
I would use E6000

How To Descale A Snakeskin
electrathon replied to Skwerl's topic in Exotics, Reptiles, Furs and others
I am not a pro. I had one rattlesnake that I bought, it kept shedding scales. I gently brushed it against the scales and they came loose/off. It did not harm the skin and I was able to use it for inlays. Aaron- 5 replies

Any Tool That Puches Many Holes At Once?
electrathon replied to leathervan's topic in How Do I Do That?
Also want to add, if you punch them one at a time you will not get them spaced correctly, you need to have at least a two pronged punch, one prong goes into the prepunched hole. -
The last ones for sale are pictured. The box is 4" deep. There are a lot in here , most are smaller round ones. $50 for all of them, I will cover shipping. No being picky at this price. If you are looking for particular sizes I will sort things out, but the price will go up substantially. Aaron

Jessica, Talk to Scott at the Eugene Guild. Paul Zalesak will be in Eugene in a couple weeks teaching. Awesome opportunity. We have a group here in Portland too, but Eugene is closer to you. Aaron

Cool, I like the multi-colored thread. Oregon leather in Portland has sole material, but sometimes they do not like to sell shoe parts to non-cobblers.
-
My politically correct answer is that they are more for aesthetics. My humor answer is: How tight do you plan on lacing the pants on that you are afraid of tear out?
-
When you make your last stitch push it into the ball a little bit, then snip off the end of the thread. The ball innards will hold the thread from backing out.

I really like it, except for the rivets. I like the way the stitches look along the beak and feel it would look great around the eyes too.
