  1. I made a belt that measures from 26 inches out to 60 inches. Numbers are stamped every inch, belt was made from veg tan leather, painted all numbers with different colors every 10 inches, remember to use buckle length when laying out belt. Works every time
  2. Nice pattern, thank for putting it on here! Thanks much!
  3. I found a bottle of gray dye at Zach Whites, last one and I don't have to make vinagroon! I got steel wool from Home Depot and I'll make some groon in the future, like a week from now
  4. Can we still download pics?

  5. Is that not your basic buck stich?
  6. How I apply antque 1. Apply Antique 2. Remove excess 3. Use damp cloth to remove leftover excess (it is an important step). 4. Apply sealer (do not drench) it has worked this way for me for decades! cloth, dauber, or spray; just don't turn it into soup.
  7. Where did all this take place? What state were you/he in, where did you pay - in person or online, or over the phone?
  8. Ok I just read this "what is art" and I'm here to fix it for everybody! Leather worker sounds manly. In days gone by where you had blacksmiths and carpenters, and farmhands that knew all kinds of macho shhtuff! Leather worker seems to fit in amongst all that testosterone. Leather workers also had the vats to tan hides whereas the normal city did not. Leather artist also sounds kinda danty like! Are you gonna name your dog Prince or are you gonna name him duke?
  9. I know this post is old but I make small cases, sheaths, stitching horse pads, low cost holsters, drink holders for bikes. There are all kinds of things to be made with bellies! In the old days waste was not wanted, today most folks want the prettiest leather used on places it won't ever be seen, that's stupid in my eyes! Try making things out of it, I'm sure you will be pleased
  10. Just found this, thanks for putting it out here!
  11. I have a couple of sides that Tandy unloaded on me, it's soft and plyable, it might make a real nice pony express bag. It all depends on your experience
  12. I had to go up to Zack Whites Leather to get wallet material, also decided to pick up gromets. I always ordered gromets from Tandy, today I got CS Osborn gromets. WOW! What a difference, Tandy's are thin and cheap, Osborns are heavy and quality made. For years I was brain washed by Tandy that their hardware is just like everyone else's, so now I get to ask if there are any hardware manufacturers on these pages?
  13. I'm finally back to being me, a good surgeon and remembering my password is awesome!

  19. Use your stamp, sign your work! Something's up when they don't want a signature on the work! Tell that customer that ALL work gets marked, even at Walmarts you find tags!
  20. I make templates out of half inch thick wood stripes that are as wide as the belt I'm making. I used a drill press to drill the holes in the stripe of wood one inch apart. I use a nail that is slightly smaller than the drill bit to keep the nail straight and centered, I insert the nail then lightly tap it to mark the leather. I have different width templates for each belt blank width, about seven different templates I have made years ago! Most are made of cedar that a neighbor cut down in his yard. If you make a template, make it so it last! Quality begets quality!
  21. When did you purchase the dye? Was it shipped during the cold months? It may of gotten a bit frozen, I've had dyes happen when I lived in upstate NY.
  22. Just get hold of Bob, he can give you an exact amount! The Cowboy 4500 is worth the money, stop buying used machines that need repairs, my next machine will come from Bob!
  23. It's October 14th, the 4500 is great on the repairs I do for customers, repairs are my way of getting to know the machines temperment, if you haven't made a choice get the 4500! I have no prob with the tension of the stitches, I also glue all my seams before hand. I'm glad that I purchased the 4500, I'm also trying to open a 2nd leather shop where I will be manufacturing items. The 4500 really makes things easier, but hand sewing will also be used in my shop, it's a lifetime promise thing!
  24. I've been known to use "Chapstick" it works and keeps my lips right!
  25. ...so how did ya build it?
