  1. I have lost my ability to smell leather, been doling it for 52 years
  2. It is the best to use for joining leather. It's the only glue 85 percent of the USA leather workers use. There are others that use rubber cement but that has a weak hold. Buy it in quart cans, anything smaller will be too costly.
  3. I use a small log and a thick square of leather as a pounding post
  4. If you purchased gas for the car, a card scammer put in place by the criminals is one way! Standing in line at a convenience store they can use their phone if your card has the tap feature (I watched my daughter's boyfriend's brother do the swipe by my wife's purse, but I was in the wrong flooring him when I caught him doing it!) those are two distinct ways, another is an online purchase and an employee might snatch your card number

    Vest advice

Boicie I too own a bikers leather shop. I have from one to an entire group come into my shop for placement of patches. My advice would be to purchase a vest (buy a slightly larger vest if you plan on wearing a hoodie under it - most do) and add patches to it. You can have them made out of embroidered fabrics which is costly to make just a single patch OR you can purchase some veg tan leather (3 to 5 ounce thicknesses) and tool your own. It won't be as heavy as you think and it will be unique. Just draw up a design and enjoy you first few steps into leather tooling. If you need to contact me I'm at docreaper@rocketmail.com you being in Australia it should be easy to find others that tool Leather, enjoy!
  6. That tiny teeny small hole is nowhere near a size 8 rivet, more like the size of a thin finishing nail.
  7. Now I wanna know the story if it is known!!!
  8. this is what $6 got me at one of those antique shops. I understand what the dome shaper is and how it's used. I'm confused about the two holes! It has a number 8 clearly stamped next to the larger hole on the side, which I thought it was for a size 8 rivet. There is a much smaller hole next to the dome shaper. WHAT IS THE SMALLER HOLE FOR?????? the only thing stamped on it are C.S. Osborne & Co. Harrison, N.J. And a number 8 below that.
  9. Hey Flint, do what Chuck123 said to do. I'd say make a copy but not out of vegtan, a black drum dyed harness leather would be a great copy material
  10. I use the Harbor Freight air brushes that are affordable and durable. I have 3 of the smaller compressors that come from hobby stores, plus a 28 gallon and a 60 gallon compressor. I still use the smaller tankless compressors for ease of movement. I have the larger bottles that I can switch quickly, I also have a moisture trap on the smaller compressors. Buy what you need at harbor freight it saves money and they last. I do have the spot sprayer Chuck displayed but to me it’s way too much gun. For good deals the flea market is ok but you might not see anything there for a while. Craigslist is awesome and Other places like FB market place. I tripped over the small compressors, my wife decided that I’d need a 28 gallon tank if I was going to paint her motorcycle.
  11. It folds in half or three folds, depends on the length. The longer ones work best for defense. It’s all personal preference, and placement of snaps
  12. Where ya located in NC???
  13. This is an acting coin purse for all legal purposes. Commonly known as “slapjacks”, these are normally filled with pulverized lead and also house a length of steel banding or strapping material (for stoutness) and are used as a self defense weapon or a tool used to assault others. Most places “slapjacks” are illegal and can be a jail sentence! But if the design is modified to carry coins, remove the metal banding material, and wear it around a belt as a coin holder - it is 100% legal. Have you ever seen a pair of nunchucks, well this is kinda like using half a set of nunchucks.. when used as a self defense weapon it can stop an assault quickly! There are videos on the internet to show how they are used, the are also referred to as an equalizer because they level the playing field somewhat. They are nice to have when you can’t have a gun , knife, or club handy.
  14. Again seeing is inspirational - got a pic so we can all understand, us crayon eaters need a visual
  15. Yo Handstitched, I had a red cedar horse hitching post that was removed from a garden area, it then sat in my driveway for eight years. I finally made a four-step tool holder out of half the length and the other half is a standing totem pole tool holder, I’ll post pictures later on today
  16. Is the public allowed to carry those around, here in the states we are led to believe that other countries aren’t allowed to have them
  17. Northmount I really gotta say thanks a bunch! That’s a really handy knot to know, I’m sure there are others but this is very useful!!!!!
  18. I pocket a Colt 45 Derringer, and side holster a 380
  19. There is a leathers business here in North Carolina that I don’t see much advertisement for, but they have a full blown warehouse. I have a smaller business that it’s operating mainly from a 20x16 shed plus I’m set up at a flea market. I use this site to gain bits of knowledge and a bonus was that I found guys that made items that fit on my CB4500 (441 clone) and some of the folks rock
  20. It is probably a nice looking knot, but it’s all so dark it’s impossible to see what was done. Can someone use a white shoelace on a light brown piece of cardboard? I have never seen this knot
  21. I see quick rivets as something to look at, aesthetics, if you would. They have the strength of a hollow tube made of tin, because that’s what they are! There is zero holding strength in a quick rivet. Back in the 70s the rivets were made much better than the junk you find today. The discoloration you are seeing is because of all the materials involved. Nickel is cheap and tin is even cheaper! Also the tannins in the leather are partially at fault. Brass is a good solid holder but steel rocks. If copper was lame it wouldn’t be for rivets. TIN SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A RIVET. I’d use a screw post before a tin rivet
  22. Bruce, the question I really have to ask is why would someone have a machine that measures sharpness???? How do I get one?
  23. Dwight, I really have to thank ya for posting this and I pretty much have the same blades, you have also made it crystal clear for not only me but all the others as well - thanks much
  24. I prefer the full or side, I feel I’m being overcharged on precut
  25. When you say drywall razor blades, are you talking about the case knife blades??? Could ya do a snapshot, please
