  1. You can use a creaser on leather with a finish if you heat it. It's not normally necessary with veg tan that has been dampened. It's the only effective way to do a chrome tanned leather and get it to stay at all. That said, no matter how much heat and pressure, some leathers do not hold it very well with standard equipment. For them, I think you need the heating tools from France, I can't think of the name of it right now. Something like a fileteuse? Or a heat press.

    Leather Bear Series

Very creative and fabulous attention to all the small details!
  3. Monica beat me to it :-) All of the items are really nice but that clasp is the crowning touch for the journal. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with us.

    Medusa color

Wow! The colouring brings such life to this! Looking forward to seeing it completed. Thanks for sharing.
  5. Love the colour of this! Did you dye it or did it come that way? Looks like it will get a beautiful patina with age.
  6. Thanks Rohn. It was really nice to have one thing I was making this year go almost exactly as planned. Other things I was working on, not so much. Wild Bill, this was made to match a card wallet that I gave to her last year, so I just couldn't break up the set. ( we can still be friends though )
  7. I am really pleased with how this turned out. After all the discussions re: edge paint and reading Campbell Randall's tips with the edge paint, I used my woodburning tool to lightly heat the edge paint between coats and got a much improved edge. One with a heat control would have been better, it gets hot pretty fast so you really have to watch the heat but hey, you use what you have. The faux croc is from Tandy, the goatskin used as lining and the one used for the pockets is from Perfect Leather in TO. Hoping my friend likes it.
  8. Wonderful job! The textures! It's neat to watch something evolve and I always learn from the way everyone approaches and handles various challenges. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I saw this a while back on your blog and it just gets better and better with each viewing. Fabulous corset!
  10. I think it's gorgeous! Like wyomingslick, I would love to see more pics of this.
  11. Tandy has one in the new additions to the pro stamps collection.
  12. Very, very nice. Though I'd feel bad about sitting on it.
  13. Thanks for sharing. Would love to see it when you get it done.
  14. Thought I would show my new maker's stamp. Just received it in the mail today from LW leatherworks.
  15. Beautiful bag! Thanks for sharing it.
  16. That makes sense. Thanks
  17. Thanks for sharing this. Just a quick question. Do you know why they chose to leave the one end open? I'm not sure why you would do that.
  18. Thanks for sharing the pattern with us.
  19. Did you try emailing the pattern people?
  20. Lovely tote, Monica. I'll bet your dad is really pleased. I'm not sure it would do what you want, but in addition to some skiving, you could just slightly round the edges where they come together at the corners. I think I saw it on one of Nigel's videos and I have found in my own stuff, it makes the edge look more polished. Bumping the corner off seems a little more pleasing to my eye than when I leave things squared off. Just my 2 cents, you can take it for what it's worth 'cause it is decidely a personal preference thing....
  21. Oh wow! This is amazing. Is it heavy to wear?
  22. Love the new bag. I think the old one was very nice too. I'm thinking some of your problem with it is that your aesthetic has changed over time, as you have learned new things and found your own style . I think it is a process that we all go through learning a new craft/art :-)
  23. Raven, I haven't used this pattern but if the leather is thick enough, boning is not normally necessary. Depending on the style and period of the corset, the boning in corsets is to hold the fabric taut so it stays in the shape you would like or so that it doesn't crumple down around the middle. If the leather was lightweight, you could double bone the seams or add additional bones between the seams in the middle of the panels. Hope this is helpful for your next one, as from your post, this one is a disappointment :-(
