  1. Love the colour of this! Did you dye it or did it come that way? Looks like it will get a beautiful patina with age.
  2. Thanks Rohn. It was really nice to have one thing I was making this year go almost exactly as planned. Other things I was working on, not so much. Wild Bill, this was made to match a card wallet that I gave to her last year, so I just couldn't break up the set. ( we can still be friends though )
  3. I am really pleased with how this turned out. After all the discussions re: edge paint and reading Campbell Randall's tips with the edge paint, I used my woodburning tool to lightly heat the edge paint between coats and got a much improved edge. One with a heat control would have been better, it gets hot pretty fast so you really have to watch the heat but hey, you use what you have. The faux croc is from Tandy, the goatskin used as lining and the one used for the pockets is from Perfect Leather in TO. Hoping my friend likes it.
  4. Wonderful job! The textures! It's neat to watch something evolve and I always learn from the way everyone approaches and handles various challenges. Thanks for sharing.
  5. I saw this a while back on your blog and it just gets better and better with each viewing. Fabulous corset!
  6. I think it's gorgeous! Like wyomingslick, I would love to see more pics of this.
  7. Tandy has one in the new additions to the pro stamps collection.

    My Latest Barstool

Very, very nice. Though I'd feel bad about sitting on it.
  9. Thanks for sharing. Would love to see it when you get it done.
  10. Thought I would show my new maker's stamp. Just received it in the mail today from LW leatherworks.
  11. Thanks for sharing this. Just a quick question. Do you know why they chose to leave the one end open? I'm not sure why you would do that.
  12. Thanks for sharing the pattern with us.
  13. Did you try emailing the pattern people?
  14. Lovely tote, Monica. I'll bet your dad is really pleased. I'm not sure it would do what you want, but in addition to some skiving, you could just slightly round the edges where they come together at the corners. I think I saw it on one of Nigel's videos and I have found in my own stuff, it makes the edge look more polished. Bumping the corner off seems a little more pleasing to my eye than when I leave things squared off. Just my 2 cents, you can take it for what it's worth 'cause it is decidely a personal preference thing....
  15. Love the new bag. I think the old one was very nice too. I'm thinking some of your problem with it is that your aesthetic has changed over time, as you have learned new things and found your own style . I think it is a process that we all go through learning a new craft/art :-)
  16. Raven, I haven't used this pattern but if the leather is thick enough, boning is not normally necessary. Depending on the style and period of the corset, the boning in corsets is to hold the fabric taut so it stays in the shape you would like or so that it doesn't crumple down around the middle. If the leather was lightweight, you could double bone the seams or add additional bones between the seams in the middle of the panels. Hope this is helpful for your next one, as from your post, this one is a disappointment :-(
  17. Thanks so much. It gets a lot of compliments. My hubby says that I am my worst critic. I think that is in part because things never quite meet up with the mental vision of the project. But it is all a learning process so I am having fun with it and hopefully I don't make the same mistakes on the next projects :-)
  18. Thanks so much. The original plan was to stamp a bracelet but she had seen my orange purse in progress, so lobbied for a purse and bracelet. Quite the negotiator. She helped with gluing the liner in and deciding which part of the leather pattern should be used. She built one in paper that she had done art work on while I was doing this and actually had a great idea for a belt closure, that I may have to use on another project.
  19. I got this leather on sale at Tandy a while back, because I loved the colour and the softness of it. Had no idea what I would do with it, but found a purse at Value Village with these handles so went from there. I used the old purse for a pattern but made it a little deeper and reinforced the bottom but had some huge issues when it came to attaching the handles. I still sometimes think of the leather as a fabric and expect it to do things it can't. Mostly I would have done better if I owned a bell skiver but that it way out of my budget and this leather is really soft so manual skiving wasn't a happening thing. Some mods had to be made on the fly and it is not my best stitching but it is usable and orange is supposed to be the in colour at the moment. lol
  20. I had 2 hours to get this done before her sister woke up and considering I had to glue a lambskin lining to the faux crocodile, they don't look too bad. She loves purple and I had some of this faux crocodile, so she ended up with a pretty stylish purse/bracelet combo. I had to cheat and use a strap from a Value Village find that I had purchased for its hardware but that didn't bother her any. Got me lots of granny points. lol
  21. I'm with you Troy. Totally amazing but more than a little disconcerting. lol
