After you dark stain it and not sure if you are going to use any finish after staining it, rub Bees wax over it, won't disappear but will make it less obvious. Hope this helps JCUK

I am all for supporting local suppliers as long as the hardware is up to the job in hand also try to buy tools that have been made as close to home as i can.

You can just put down to use and you will always know its your saddle, time and cleaning will help out eventually, but if you want it perfect maybe the best fix is to get it reseated if you have someone nearby can do this for you. Hope this helps JCUK

Considering your resources you done a great job there, as for the noise loud music helps. Yes you could bye a cheap and nasty one and learn nothing from it or maybe you can see how badly made some off the shelf things are.

Nice work, can i ask is it lined? As I cant really tell from the pics, if not you really don't need to glue your buckle and hardware turns, not sure if you have access to a tack hammer and some tacks you can always lightly tack them in place saves having to inhale glue vapours. When i hand stitch fleece i use a back stitch because on the reverse side i.e. the fleece it will take up two stitch marks pulling more of the fleece onto the leather you are stitching it to i do the same when stitching leather to webbing also. Hope this helps JCUK

Hi I confess i don't know anything about this and so my wife will type below: Ok so the graphics editing software mentioned already will not edit PDF's. The best editor is Adobe DC however you have to pay for it. Free PDF editors are as follows: SmallPDF PDF-Xchange editor PDFescape PDFsamBasic I haven't used any of these only Adobe so can't vouch how good they are. However there are ways around everything - You can screenshot your PDF and import it into InkScape ( importing will bring it as a new layer) add another layer above this and then you can use the pen tool to trace over the top and therefore edit as you see fit. Once you are happy you can delete the imported layer. Save your image then open word import your image, scale to size and then save as a PDF. Hope this helps. JCUKS WIFE

Hi For those who don't have lots of money to spare purchasing expensive graphics packages - there is a free vector drawing piece of software called InkScape. This will do the job nicely and it has lots of tutorials on how to use it too.

Hi JCUK's Wife here I work with graphics my line of work and use Adobe Creative Cloud and all the apps within it. Like you i have been using Fireworks since the old Macromedia days and then when taken over by Adobe. I still use Fireworks and even used it within the last hour- Adobe stopped supporting it but you can still get hold of a version. So should you use it rather than Illustrator or inDesign? Yes absolutely it is easier to use and produces vector graphics. Hope this helps JCUK

Thats a great link thanks for that, especially the piece on do not confuse lacing with the saddle stitch and the examples of different types of stitches people think will pass as a saddle stitch, i like the poor attempt of the backstitch on the flesh side ( Envers ). It should help clear up exactly what a saddle stitch is for some. Thanks again JCUK

Once you have it ship shape, if you have access to a polishing wheel give it polish on it every so often you will be not have to sharpen it so often. Hope this helps JCUK

It looks like you have slightly missed your stitching line and tried to correct it by forcing it back onto the line, do place your chisel in one former prick mark if you do go back two it will help kept it on a straight line. Hope this helps JCUK

Webbers are a good company that's where i got my 86 from, they replaced a Round knife i got from them many 20 odd years before even though the damage was not a fault with the knife great customer service. I would buy from them again. But i also get a lot of my leather from these they sell Osborne tools, another good company also.
