find a countertop dealer or a tombstone maker. I've had both either give me a piece they were throwing away or I traded some leather work for a nice slab

Thanks for the replies guys. Very helpful info. I figured my lack of knowledge on metal was leading me to look in the wrong place. I check out some local machine shops and see what they say. I do expect the prices for one off mold to be pricey, be hey i have clicker dies for cutting fringe in the thousand dollar range. I want these for items that are proven sellers that we manufacture daily. @ RockyAussie I checked out your linked post on the pla mold. I believe this is probably what I have purchased a few weeks ago. I know they were 3d printed. Maybe my expectations of what the molds could handle were not realistic. I had to pop out 42 items in one day for a last minute holiday order and we attempted to use the mold with our clicker press like we do with our metal molds. It fulfilled the order but the mold is done. I do have several hand presses but unless we are just looking to make one or two it just comes down to a time thing. 30-40 seconds hand cranking the press and trying to judge when enough is enough or a one second hit with the clicker and its done, dry the leather with a heat gun and get to the next step of manufacture. I'll gladly pay for a metal mold that will work for thousands of hits.

I have 2 heritage presses. I use each press for setting one specific size rivet for a specific product. I went this route because every time I had to change rivet length (all I use are tubular rivets) I'd by screwing up rivets left and right. With the adjustments dialed in I probably get 1 or 2 bad rivet presses per 50. I'm curious what brand and model older rivet setters Big Sioux knows about that they would recommend. I set a ton of rivets and while I have these two presses dialed in I would like to be able to set rivets in other things also. I just dread messing with my adjustments and going back to noodling up 2 out 10 rivets.

That would be my opinion also. I think this seller will be waiting a long time to sell that whole lot at any price but it would have to be around 5K for me to even bother looking at it. Just about every machine pictured close up is either missing parts or rusted and old patchers are picky bastards.

Through the years I have purchased molds such as the one pictured made from metal. They were always purchased from other leather companies that were selling out. I've never been able to find a place that will actually make the molds to spec out of metal. I've found places that will make them out of plastic or wood but they don't stand up to long term heavy production. I have several products that my current rate of orders is getting to the point that I'm ruining my plastic molds quicker than I can buy them. Anyone know of a manufacturer that does this stuff? I know nothing of metal types but I would assume these are cast. The few foundries out here in Utah treated me like I had three heads when I asked about them. One said they could make me the mold by I would have to order a minimum of 1000 of them. Any one know of a place that can do this in one offs? Thanks! Mark

Keep in mind that piece of leather looks like it was run through a skiving machine before it was creased and folded with the bone.

441 bobbins 30mm long too long for Cobra Class 4 problem
Mark842 replied to carolem's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Yep. Some of them are. just a thought... I almost always just use black on the bobbin thread as I don't make many products that both sides need to be the same color. If you have your tension set correctly you will not be able to see the bobbin thread from the top side of your product. Don't know if this will work for you as I realize some stuff needs to have both sides the same color. -
I'll second Big Sioux. There latigo is fair if your not too picky on the thickness being accurate. I always order 9 ounce. Sometimes its 11-12 oz and sometimes its 7-9. My opinion of their veg tan is that I won't use it. I've used no name veg from Hide house for half the price that was better. H.O. and W & C are much better.

The straight lines and "EZRA" as well as the heart look like they were hand cut with a swivel knife. Same for the arrows. As for the colors...there is more than one way to skin that cat. I would use a paint like Angelus brand leather paints on the lettering first. Then use a resist over the lettering and then antique or dye.

Latigo can be a bugger sometimes. Probably one out of every ten hides I buy will do this. Sometimes going up a needle size will help and sometimes not. I've had some success using silicone thread lube when it happens.

Good deal? Cowboy CB 29 18” arm
Mark842 replied to WoodsHollowLeather's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Take the belt off and see if it turns smoothly. If so, buy it! You can do things with a patcher that you can't do with any other machine. I have 2 of them and I'll be buried with them. -
I wear disposable surgeon type rubber gloves...

I purchase from Superior threads and the Thread exchange for most of my stuff. Some of my more bold colors and neons I order from Coats USA.

Looking for vintage "sun" border camouflage tool for restoration project

I own for lack of better words..a metric buttload of leather stamps. Been collecting for years and I have not seen that one before. I suspect looking at the impression that it was a handmade stamp. If no one else on here recognizes it I would suggest sending a picture to this gentleman https://www.facebook.com/sergeyneskromniy His work is outstanding and so are his prices. Don't let his geographical location scare you. His turn around time is quick and he is a known quantity in the leather forums as someone who is trusted. -
Sigh...I live in the wrong country. Then again if I lived in Germany my house would look like a leather machinery museum and I'd be broke and in trouble with the ole lady all the time...

You have nothing to fear Bob. Your excellent customer service and knowledge is a known quantity in the Industry and I can say the same for Steve over at Cobra. Even if the it was apples to apples I would spend more buying from one of you guys because I know what I will get. I love this line, " You will get exactly what is in the pictures but the machine will be brand new in the box. Some assembly is required." and that he says all you guys do is have them put your name on it. I have seen how these machines arrive from the manufacturer. There is considerable knowledge needed to assemble them and time them..etc. I'll toot your horn for you guys.

I agree with Bruce on taking care with packaging for shipping. eBay will definitely allow the market to set the price. I would still link the eBay listing in the for sale section here. It will give you all of ebay but it will also make sure you target people in the trade. I have one of these in my shop I bought a few years back and they are a great tool for someone that does a lot of belts/straps. Good luck with it

Not sure if when you say must take all in the top photo if that applies to only that photo. If so I'd like all in the top photo if still available. Will PM my address for shipping costs..

Here in this forum...http://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/79-machinery-cuttingleatherworking/ Is the bottom roller wood or metal on this one? Do you have the foot press pieces that attach to it to apply pressure? What are you looking to get out of it?

What sewing machines sew 12oz/5mm leather?
Mark842 replied to Curlywolf's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Neither of the machines you have mentioned will handle 12 oz leather. For that thickness you need something like a Cobra or Cowboy 441 clone with a walking foot. -
I'll take two packs (500 snaps) of the line 24's. PM sent.
