    Wouldn't bet on the tanning process killing pathogens hide glue can keep anthrax in intact forever !

    On edge sanding i use 80 grit open face for shaping, and finish with 120. For surface i rough it up with the back side of a lock back shaper cutter.

    Im with Matt on the headf knife i use a gomph pattern head knife it will cut 10 oz leather in one pass on round stuff like matt said do it in two the pattern knife is very narrow at the points also i have a knife used for chip carving that can cut a 1/4'' rad no problem very very SHARP is what you need or as some say "scary sharp" good luck.

    looks nice what it for what kind of leather is that just one rivet at the btm dose that hold ok did you glue and sew or just sew sorry just like to know more about it.

    Thats funny your stitching looked so good i instantly thought machine lol .

    when i back tack i turn the machine over by hand and set the needle just next to the stitch still touching but beside it and yes if your not paying attention you can cut stitches in half that said i have never cut a thread turning the machine over by hand on the back stitch for the extra three seconds it takes its worth it and it feels good knowing im not cutting some stitch in half .

    I always divide the last few stitches and turn the machine over by hand changing patterns has never worked for me but thats just my opinion works every time for me your work looks very good! nice job.

    It has ben said hide glue can contain anthrax for more than one hundred years! i dont like any of that stuff i'd say if you dont have to touch stuff from there dont. but thats just me.

    Nice work Chuck that looks really good i think the thumb break on the inside rather than outside would but for the belt conection a quick disconect like the one on my chest holster in this section the small part of the of the conector is very small it could mount on the side of the belt the belt would still go on and off easy and very fast hookup and release .btm line it looks really good thanks for showing.

    I think i have two boxes of hollow rivetsthat date back to that time chance i get today i'll check a doctor gave me about one hundred leather working tools that belonged to hi great grandfarther among the things were lettersfrom the leather worker to leather purveyors of the time dated 1891and 1898 i have the book Packing iron fun stuff i'll take a look .
