Singer 51W SV 2 Post Bed Machine Restoration
Constabulary replied to Constabulary's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
"Decal Update" Thanks to LW member EVO160K who supported me with this nice "special" decal. Actually the letters are vinyl like stickers but very well made with real gold foil (afaik). Looks a bit 3D-ish... Looks a bit different compared with thin water slide decals but I like it especially because of the Font with the long R. -

Diagnosing stitching problem on Pfaff 471
Constabulary replied to unionattic's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Wiz, right to left threading is correct when the hook tip is on the left side. Problem is the needle scarf facing right instead of left. With other words turn the needle 180° and start again. -
Diagnosing stitching problem on Pfaff 471

since the hook is on the left side of the needle the scarf of the needle has to face left (toward the hook tip) - yours is facing right according to your drawn picture. -
Singer Leather Sewing Machines
Constabulary replied to Trevor Baret's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hope you are aware of the very short stitch lenght of the 236 machines. I just scanned my Singer 236w operators guidebook - you can download it in this post: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/87614-download-singer-236w-236g-manual-operators-guide I put it in a separate post so it can be found in a google search. Hope this helps- 53 replies

Just scanned my Singer 236w operators guidebook into a PDF file. Should work for 236G models as well. This is a basic manual and does not cover any subclasses. Singer 236w Manual Operators Guide.PDF

Different subclass but it should work https://www.manualslib.com/manual/154045/Singer-331k1.html EDIT: just noticed the K5 is a jump foot machine - so maybe look up Singer 31K19 or 31K47

Singer 107W3 stitch length adjustment
Constabulary replied to BruceBrown's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Probably the stitch length regulator is gummed. Do you have a manual? There is a good X-ray picture in it showing the stitch length mechanism. W/O knowing details of your machine I would remove the screw A + B and also pull out the spindle L. and drip in some mineral spirit (what ever you have, kerosene, paint thinner, white fuel...) and / or apply heat with a heat gun. But maybe the machine is just set to a shorter stitch length and you can readjust it - see picture & last paragraph - hope this helps. Hopefully the threading on the spindle knob or hand wheel are not busted. -
Seems seller does not know how to measure an inch You`ll find the specs here (download link) http://www.duerkopp-adler.com/commons/download/download-text-attachments/Vintage_Leaflets_Adler/Leaflets_Adler_Class_205.pdf

I´d buy a new hook. The Adler 69 is using the same hook as the Pfaff 335 - you sometimes find them surprisingly cheap.

No one can evaluate the real technical condition from a distance . Its probably just a tension problem but that does not mean something is broke or needs to be replaced. The decision is yours you cannot outsource this to us (if you know what I mean). However - Singer 211´s are well documented and a lot of smaller issues can be solved by just reading the manual and turning a few screws. It´s not complicated adjusting the top and bottom tension (if that is the problem). I attach a user guide for the 211 hopefully will help you. Singer 211 Operators Guide-Small.pdf Here is a service manual download link for the 211G156 https://www.supsew.com/wpfb-file/singer-211g155-211g156-service-manual-pdf/ EDIT: BTW - I don´t know the add BUT to me it looks like the pictures are from different machines and the machine head seems to be "oddly" over painted. The "painter" has not masked the mechanics on the bottom side and seem they were painted white as well. So my alarm bells are kinda ringing here. But as I said - I don´t know the add.
-
If the thread knots do not pull through the material increase the top tension and / or lower the bottom tension or try a larger size needle. What thread and needle size are you using? Leather tip or round tip needle?
-
I can´t tell from your picture what is missing, check the parts numbers in a parts list and then check with a sewing machine dealer. Not sure if it is worth the money. Expect that it will not be cheap.
-
If you have a similar hook then it looks like this. The tension screw usually is held in place by a set screw so you have to loosen the set screw first (if your hook has a set screw).

Singer 111 and 211 parts are easy to get. The 111 type feet are wide spread al ot of other brands like Juki, Consew, Seiko... are using the same feet. Singer 111 and 211 share a lot of parts. Most sewing machine dealers should have 111 / 211 parts and feet.

Restoration for Juki LU-562 & upgrade to LU-563 Bobbin
Constabulary replied to Vinito's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
maybe someone with a 562 and 563 can measure the distance between thread eye on the lever tip and the "bushing" on the outside - just to get a rough idea if there really is a difference in length or if it is just the more pronounced arc.... Just an idea... You at least need a different bobbin case opener and mill / grind down the corner of the thingy the opener is mounted to to make room for the larger hook. -
Restoration for Juki LU-562 & upgrade to LU-563 Bobbin
Constabulary replied to Vinito's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
pretty sure a lot people would like to convert their Singer 111 based machine to a large hook machine. -
211G465 has no reverse therefore a longer stitch length of 7.3mm max., max. foot lift 12.7mm, large hook and an oil bath hook saddle. Thats at least how it should have left the factory. So basically the difference is the 465 has no reverse.

Old Pfaff 1245 with Quick-Rotan and Singer 211g766
Constabulary replied to m4rym4ry's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Just from looking at few pictures... regarding motor - if they work great if not do not waste time and money in this old clunkers buy a new servo motor instead - really! If I had to choose I´d choose the machine with the fewest electronically controlled devices! Why? Because they are OLD and the motors are "dead" and I don´t think they are not supported anymore. regarding singer 211G766 - see attachment Hope this helps I would probably buy them both refurbish them both keep one and sell the other one - maybe you break even and so you have the other machine for free or even make a profit -
Seems I misread - I was on 120/3 (which is a thread size and not the needle size) #23 is a NM 160 needle so I was a bit off with my assumption of max. 140. If it can handle larger needles than 160? I don´t know if I were you I´d buy some needles and thread and test it! It is a clone machine - you never know if they are set up like the originals. Testing a machine before buying it is ALWAYS the best bet! In a German sewing forum someone is using 180 needles on a Pfaff 335 clone (Shanggong 335 or so) - seems it works but that for sure is pushed to the limits. Personally I would use needles up to 140 on machines of this class and everything larger from 160 onward I would use a different machine with barrel type hook (like Singer 45K, Adler 5, Adler 105 or similar)

Speed control by pedal force or movement?
Constabulary replied to Gymnast's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Sorry to say that but for "just operating a sewing machine" this is a bit too much science for me. Pedal down force? Really? For what? Honestly I do dot care and I´m not event trying to follow all this. But as we say in German "Jedem Tierchen sein Pläsierchen" Good luck with this!
