    I havent made one but, I'd buy one based on all the other criteria for a maul. properly shaped handle and a balanced head. Then i would hope that someone that would make one would try to make it as an artform itself. maybe a marbled head and a curly cherry handle. well dang that dont sound too bad!

    Howdy Folks, I'm an eternal western movie fan. I usually get to see all different types and styles of leatherwork contained within them. Ideas can be gleaned from them although, not the only motivation in watching. I have however found an edging pattern that would be translated nicely into a mallet die that could be used repeatedly side by side. yes, it is that big, yet not so. It would be similar to a scolloped belt end punch of a certain size and a few punch tubes. So I know that leaves out texas die because they will not do a mallet with tubes. suggestions? Bro Timothy

    I agree with Dwight completely with only one addendum for myself. I have recently been using an air powered paint gun to apply my thinned resolene. I find I can vary the thickness of coats and can apply to many different products in a rapid pace while still leaving a wonderful surface. Doing one or two small items, do what Dwight has said. Bro.     unless the punch was made from some junky metal, you should be able to save it easily enough. File or stone to straighten it up then, put ome time in learning to sharpen correctly, then practice it.

    I think you would be better suited with a machine that could loaf through the job instead of struggle and labor. your work wouldnt suffer either from struggling with troubles.yup, juki.

    When i go to set small spot along items i pull the thread from my cobra sewing machine, using a #24 or 25 needle, "sew" a series of holes with the stitch length equal to the leg distance on the spot. then just insert and bend legs and/or tap down. I realise this process will not help those without a machine. tim

    Anyone using the drop-down roller guide on their heavy machines like the class 4 and 5100's? I like the idea, even had been considering making something along those lines before i found it but, i just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I see some versions have an accessory flat guide that is interchangable with the roller, any advantages? Ideas, comments, stories? thx

    One of the best leather conditioners I've found is Bicks 4. You can even mix with your dye to aid in application for even take up and also condition at the same time. When used by itself it will really soften it up wonderfully. It even is safe for your hands and is great for healing skin cracks too!! I've used it a lot and wouldn't be without it. Bro Tim.

    Hey Dwight!, How are you dear Brother in Spirit?? you brought up the beeswax/neetsfoot oil mix. Do you make your preparation to be used as a room temp paste, a warmed paste or as a heavy bodied liquid? I have experimented before with a hot liquid mix. Thus wax had to be melted then mixed with the 100% NF oil to a usable product. I've considered many times what it would take to make a mix that was naturally low enough melting point that just hand tempatures would make it usuable as a leather peservative/finish. What has been your experience, I think it would be good info for all here. Thanks, Bro. Timothy West Ky

    Well I really don't "need" a sailrite. In reality, I would like to have a class 18 or maybe a 29k style as well to have as an accompanying machine for my class 4 cobra. They wouldn't have enough usage to pay for a new one. But, in those times when it would be the best tool for the job, it's a shame not to have it. Bro. Tim
