Wow, they are both beautiful. I love the belt that goes with the black scabbard.

Latest stuff

Thanks, Tom and Bob. Tom, these zippers are weird - if they're used as the top of a gusset-less pouch with the tape below the level of the zipper they work just fine. Otherwise, they just don't work. I'll experiment with waxing them, thanks for the tip. -
Latest stuff

Thanks, but you should see my wallets. Also, the new stuff I'm going to make with a sewing machine will be utilitarian, at best. -

I haven't been on here much lately, because I've been occupied with buying a Singer 111w153 and refurbishing it. Okay, let's be real... I obtained the Singer because Ole South found it for me and made sure it was running, and then I watched my extremely helpful husband get it fixed up. I'm about to start ruining some leather and canvas with it as soon as I finish my current project. Most lately, I finished this camera harness, edge creased with my makeshift on-the-cheap creaser.* Horween Derby on the exterior, and croc-print from SLC on the inside, all hand-stitched. Chicago screws and most of the other hardware from BuckleGuy. Nautical clips from ebay. Before that, I finished up a black backpack made from Horween chromexcel horse hide. Practicing my minimalism, since I'm really bad at that. Before that, I made a small duffle protoype - the principle reason why I decided to get a machine. I want to make some of these, but they take so long to hand-stitch, and stitching the canvas by hand is harder than stitching leather. This one is marred principally by the zippers, which hardly work at all. :-P Also, an apron, pattern courtesy of Ole South again. *Maybe not the best solution for everyone, since it required threading the tips, but here are the links, for anyone who is interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brass-Soldering-Iron-Tip-Edge-Marking-Creaser-tip-Leather-Edge-Decorate-DIY-Tool-/181724887923?var=&hash=item2a4fa5bb73:m:mrlRVXFxAGDiX0as75-SLPAAnd here's the handle:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WAXLPY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 Criticism welcome, of course.

My Blue Daily Bag
MonicaJacobson replied to olenawills's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Oh, I wasn't saying they weren't necessary, I was saying you really went the extra mile to make it nice inside. My only criticism is for the small pieces of leather with the feet on the bottom. If you round the corners a bit, that part will look more intentional, IMO. -

Very, very nice! I can't believe you did the triple seams along the side. Must have taken a while. -
lol, awesome. My husband and I met in person, and then corresponded long distance (not too long, only about 800 miles) for two years before we got married. We've been married ten years now. Long distance dating can certainly work if your'e serious about it. In some ways you can say more over e-mail or phone than is comfortable in person. It's also easier to lie, so it can go both ways.

Cool, I'll be giving this stuff a try, soon. When I get more moneys.

+1 for BuckleGuy - all their stuff is really nice.

@catstamp There are SO MANY people who make field notes covers, and they're almost exactly alike (by necessity). I would hope another leatherworker wouldn't hold that kind of thing against anyone, because it goes with the territory on that particular item. It also sometimes happens that a customer takes offense because they feel you've ripped off a design from their favorite seller. As I see it, there's almost nothing new under the sun in leatherworking. Unless it's an actual brand, it's fair game. Some things are too distinctive to copy, but I look here and everywhere else on the internet for inspiration. It's part of learning - you have to learn how to make all the cool little details, and that isn't dishonest or infringement. The way you pull it together is what distinguishes you.

Wow, the whole thing is beautifully done. -
Twin Eagle also seems to be flatter - maybe that's just the 1.1m sample I got, but I like it a lot better than the heavily waxed Maine Thread I've used. That said, since it's 1.1m, I haven't made a project with it, because my preference is .8mm thread, which they don't carry. If they sold .8 mm or .6mm I'd be all over it. As it is, I'm going to try the Chinese route for some color variation. For Cream or Black, I still buy straight from Abbey England. I heard from another US based Abbey England customer who had to pay extra import fees. I have never had to, but I have never paid more than $150 at a time.
