  1. More news. Apparently the Tysew I've been looking at is a copy of the Juki DSC 245. It's the same as the Wimsew 245 and the Japsew DSC 245. He has a Japsew in the shop at the moment. I'll take a trip to JT Batchelor early next week and call in to take a look at these machines. Matt. if you want that cuppa why not meet up there?
  2. Another twist. Just spoke to Maury in London. He has a Durkopp 269 and a Adler 069. After a quick search I found this Adler 069 on ebay which is probably the same one. Waiting for pics of both. Pros and cons please over the tysew? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/durkopp-adler-069-Walking-Foot/223580347023
  3. Absolutely Chris. And I don't want to lose the ability to put a bigger pulley on the hand wheel. Harry has speed reduction pulleys on that machine in the video.
  4. I had to have another look Folker. I never noticed it before but I can see where it would annoy. I wonder if they're all the same? Is it definitely the motor and not the machine? If it's the motor there may be a £130 discount for a machine sans motor and a call to College machines!
  5. I may take you up on that cuppa Matt. PM me your number. I did notice a Bethnal Green number among my searching and I meant to give them a call but when I tried to find them again I couldn't.
  6. Where to start? I know enough to take what a dealer says with a pinch of salt and I will be on the phone tomorrow. I made him check the needle to edge and he said 7mm. I also asked him the sewing thickness of veg tan and he said 12mm. The foot lift is 15mm. Harry Rogers uses a Tysew on youtube and it looks ok but frustratingly it doesn't show the model number. Check the end of the cylinder at 9:10 mins in. The Monte Carlo bag is 2mm Bridle and 2.4mm veg tan. Not that it matters, it's all hand stitched but your point is taken Brian and I'm glad you guys are keeping me on point. I can't afford to buy a lemon. After what you guys said I had another look at Harrys machine and it does look like a binder plate on top doesn't it?
  7. You're so mean. Not a bone in sight.
  8. Is why I would never buy a printer/scanner/copier etc. So..... You stingy lot, if no one is going to throw a "But" into me, can someone tell me it' looks like a good machine and i'm doing the right thing?
  9. Not my thing but extremely well done.
  10. He's already rounded it down to £1200 over the phone and I haven't started yet. He wants to "upgrade me" to the latest model which has "direct drive with the motor inside the head which is a lot more money but he'll do it for the same price". I said thanks but no thanks but when I do visit he have one of each set up. I keep expecting someone to throw a "but" at me. The specs for this machine beat most of the others.
  11. I'd like to meet the people who come up with these ideas. A working work of art.
  12. OK guys. I think it has to be the Tysew 3600C-1 I've discounted the CB and the Techsew for price or availability in the UK. Spec wise the Tysew looks good in all departments. I'm waiting for a call back and they've asked me to bring samples so they must be confident and it's only the other side of London for me. I say "only" it's a murderous journey if you don't time it right and if all's well I can bring it home. They have a similar model that they call EDGE. It has an edge guide apparently. Don't know how it works but they want another £400 for it. https://www.tysew.co.uk/industrial-sewing-machines/cylinder-arm/tysew-ty-3600c-1-cylinder-arm-walking-foot-needle-feed?search=cylinder arm
  13. Thanks Wiz. How would you know which machine uses which and in practical terms how much difference does it make? Is it simply a case of a machine that was built for binding and altered later in which case would the clue be in the model number? You know - and I'm looking at you Wiz for reasons obvious to most of us on here, It would be a fantastic resource to have a list of different name/same machines/clones along with a comparable spec list for each. Don't know how difficult that would be but I know there are people on here that already have most of these answers and it would be tremendously useful to those of us who don't.
  14. My teeth problems come from the radio therapy after throat cancer back in 04 but what prompted this was the tiredness. I don't seem to have the "limit switches" that most people have. For example I never feel full and always clear the plate no matter how high you pile it. I never feel tired. I know I'm past my bedtime when my eyes start to hurt just like they have been for the last half hour. Night Night.
  15. So I'm guessing the next step up would be The Tysew? Is it a better choice or not? We're talking another £300 ish but I'd like to find something where nobody is gonna pipe up with "Not a bad machine BUT)". I've an idea that it's out of my reach but I'd like to get as close to it as possible. https://www.tysew.co.uk/industrial-sewing-machines/cylinder-arm/tysew-ty-3600c-1-cylinder-arm-walking-foot-needle-feed?language=en&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAiAzJLzBRAZEiwAmZb0at7aaJqWUU0x7xpZxcai98FS6p83HXmehj693DL_sjLfv3_jsN_FKhoC81cQAvD_BwE
  16. Thought I'd cracked it. Bookmarked the page then turned off the wifi. turned it on again, fired up chrome and hit the bookmark. It came up until I clicked on any link and off it went.
  17. Thanks Mike. I'll ask. Never tried an XXX site (well not in the club anyway)
  18. It's madness. Just look at the cost in property. assets and lives lost. Cut a swathe between the forests and the residents and maintain it every year with a spray from an aircraft. I'm actually flabbergasted that it isn't mandatory.
  19. When I'm in the club using their WIFI I can't connect to LW.net. When I switch off WIFI all is good??? Explanation someone???
  20. When I read this I laughed like a whipped dog. Is there no end to my torment? So come on Matt - how do the two motions work and how much difference does it make? I hope you know that if I buy one of these I won't be able to love it properly because of it's inferiority complex!
  21. A firebreak is supposed to stop a fire from spreading. 1.5mtrs is a joke. I'm not talking around individual houses, I'm talking around a complete town. How big does a break have to be before a flying ember in a wind goes out? How long is a piece of string right! But it sure ain't 1.5mtrs. It can cross a highway in a heartbeat. With this amount of financial loss it's crazy to not have decent firebreaks in areas where this is a common occurence. I'm guessing a lot of these "at risk" properties are uninsurable else the insurance companies would insist on it.
  22. Fantastic job. I can't imagine how long that took to make. Truly a labour of love. And second place for your second attempt must've given you a tremendous sense of pride. (Provided of course there were more than two of you in the race and the regular judge wasn't tied up in the back of the van and your dad had to take over the judging. )
  23. I didn't say it Brian but your point is taken.
  24. It would seem they're identical machines. The manuals are identical for both. Both descriptions say large capacity hook. The 8mm capacity is for pu? What's pu? for bags and regular belts should that be a concern?
