  1. A mobile sewing service You likely need a can of sewing oil and a chair, to go with that Consew 206rb3 or more. Bob or Gregg can spot these models easier. Anyway nice find! good day Floyd
  2. I have seen some really sharp people on here, many have replaced the handwheel pulley with a locally obtained larger size. This is your reducer. If carefully choosing a nice rounded edge on these can be a benifit. The motor on there now can have an extension bolted to the present lever ( just below motor in photo). These are proven, excellent methods many viewable here on the site Somewhere, to slow these down better for leather. Im having difficulty now using google to do searchs here, as it was a great method. I may need to re-up for search schooling Floyd
  3. You would be making a good choice. Respectfully they do want it gone, its not a utility to them. I missed 2 of these is sales, I sure wished early on I had pushed myself further to get there or bid. We can all try but without big resources and logistics we cannot buy a factory floor full of these or newer models for pennys on the dollar, then try and re sell. It just doesn't happen, so this is a durable, class act machine. Good day Floyd
  4. In your post is what is most important. Like each of us If ( it seems to be ) an ok or good price to ourselves it is worth serious looking. Im sure it has a clutch motor, as nearly all will. Hell even brand new machines will. There for factory pro sewers ( period ), this is a servo replacement cost to expect! Their not giving it away, but photos could help. Through the weekend is some good study time in that models abilities. Im pretty darn sure it has a small (g) bobbin and its dam tough arguing this is not enough. Lets be clear its not going to take everything! you throw at it. Good luck with your decision Floyd
  5. Ok maybe others can help in some way. With that what machine choice did you pick from all the previous discussions. It did seem to me you had decided towards a medium class, in cylinder type vs the flat beds. So either style, using the 69, 92 and 138 Threads were your prefered pick. Whats up with whatever Floyd
  6. We should dig up a manual or a pdf copy around here for this machine, its better if on the table I found. A couple different lifts are here and these are adjusted differently. I think your onto them but Im just not sure its clear in the post to best help, so. Lift “ presser foot” as in using the knee bump, this has a different amount available. Separate, is the small flip handle on the back of the machine head, behind the needle, this has its own lever design and its limited to lift amount. Another is really totally for other purposes and it can be misinterpreted lift. This is walking foot height! Sometimes can be better called alternating foot height adjustment. This has some other key points deeper discussed. So its just my opinion, I found in these steps there may need to be an order of these adjustments. Have a good day Floyd
  7. Respectfully, An advantage in the Juki ls-341; in this small world, is it is now copied by all others, except Durkopp Adler. In regards to newer or design differences in the Juki ls 1341, first I respectfully say all flatbed designers are now fully copying top part of this design, just a few are found cloning the 1341 design, so far. So the upper part you’ll notice different on the juki ls 1341, and another design for the future in the medium heavy class. Breifly a few items that are different in the two designs. Although I first would say juki has some of their cylinder arm machines that can sew a much smaller circle, vs these standard machines in discussion. The 1341 machine head is heavier than the 341. Primarily the topside is where its at. In this design they mention needle bar stroke is longer, this relates to torque advantage in needle pushing through. In addition is the feed motion upgrade, they describe it as more squared. I will put the brochure link below. Generally the feed dog is pulling the canvas or leather. So it may have a bit more in contact and longer in duration. This happens when it comes up, through and then straight down when the biting dog goes back down in its house. I could never get over that description, from a very very experienced lady of over 30 years in the factory sewing profession, then private. “ the biting dogs “ are causing trouble. Musta been my first laugh in all my industrial machine study of the pros. Anyway back to the newer Juki ls 1341; its cylinder is near 80mm dia. Or 9-1/2” length textile or leather can be sewn in a circle. This design I early on found it great in its gear train access, both veiwable and adjustable. Covers can be removed so these advantages are I think smartly sought after, evidently! Im not sure the presser foot clearence on the 341, I dont hear complaints about it. In any case the 1341 says to have more at 16mm. One other difference I later noticed and didnt realize until much later is. An update in the hook design, this is a veiwable difference in looking at the bobbin ( all if which are top load ) this was made in later 341 style and carried into the 1341 design. I think is resembles a Pfaff, fwiw. The 1341 uses system 135x17 needles. If desired this machine head can use the system 190 needles. Just as most 15series Juki heads, not just the 1508. This may or may not be in your interest but some of both are available in leather point from the dealers here. Hth https://www.juki.co.jp/industrial_e/download_e/catalog_e/ls1340.pdf Floyd
  8. Walking in to a local brick and mortar business is always an extremely benefical option. Optional to that, these machines can and regularly pallet shipped all over the world. So this location purchase is honestly, respectfully not a real big concern. Saving on shipping most certainly is, I do agree. What is additionally important is these are 441 type machines made from the Juki design, a few enhanced somehow. Some of these modified in design by American companies, then produced in other Asian countries to benefit the masses. So with your choices as you are researching your color, design and local options selling these 441 design machine options. Have a good Friday Floyd
  9. That sounds as a complete assembly. Even though many binders are made in kit/assembly matched. Some items maybe available using your standard cover plate. It can help if a factory setup is the request, and as ask if known, the kit or any numbers you have now. So what do you have in mind? A non machine brand, factory kit. These maybe retained best from a custom builder. Specifically for this as their craft. TAC Tennessee attachment company. Hey its Friday, have s good one! Floyd
  10. If you take a look around the site here and consider a larger handwheel pulley change, and install a plain servo without positioning, this would be exceptional. Imo good day Floyd
  11. Ya sorry, not sure what you can give her as a peace prize “ after” you bring it home. Dont forget the for sale sign on the other, ? Well because your upgrading. Just as they talk about. Good luck there Floyd ps: about anything with 138 thread max, and about 1/4 inch give or take a bit
  12. I can imagine the bobbin case. It must have a different, longer tension screw. Obvious I like to keep a few bobbin cases seperated so not having to reset tension. With the same size but different types. I can see to promote this strategy in this case, for sure. I take your saying it can use the same 277 thread in the bobbin. This is all interesting Good day Floyd
  13. I think your cordura layers and nylon webbing layer is indeed capable of a machine with needle and bottom feed. I also feel reverse is a real benefit though. Theres a bazillion methods to loc the stitch on a 212 and the like kind having no reverse. Even though it has both feeds mentioned and in design designated a coverall and items in that median. If it matters I have one, I went through it and I modified it for 135-17 needle system, and thread of 92 size. It was, is great with two layer canvas; yet has no reverse. This 212 g140 has a new table top, new servo. Its not your 1st investment choice for your leather work, imo. Lets say its great and has its place. Even if Its designation sew capability list coverall; this is a clothing not really a do everything. But it is Respected! Im here to agree with others and also say your sewing task require two different machines. If I was gearing up for either the quilts etc. I would now pick another machine, especially for cowboy leather gear, and another that includes costume and theatre. This level of utility is Heavy and medium heavy materials that you will find requires the largest class, level machine. It really is required, in these there are several! Your in luck though because in this class/duty level are a couple choices. Anyway note their benefits are the rate of return, and turnover if desired. Keep at the hunt, as there are used machines, so keep an eye on the ad places. Good day Floyd
  14. Good day! Can you help in describing what might be a better ability or, the machine needs to better cope with these issues. Thanks for the tips Floyd
  15. With your reviewing the above information. The following is a manual for your machine. For what its worth I think this is the most extensive manual printed by the companies making these 441 type machines. In addition they on their site have videos with some tips. Hope this helps with the above post. http://www.artisansew.com/pdf/manuals/TORO_30_32_40_BT_manual.pdf good day Floyd
  16. Its worth calling the dealer selling the mfg’s machine that “list” this capability. What I seen it is not consew or juki, these are two that did not show the proposed capability change, so if anyone has tried this 277 thread in similar machines. Im always curious. I seriously dont mind this possibility, rather think it amazing. But do find that I do mind if a company has mistakenly listed this spec in print, this includes online without correct knowledge. Especially if I dont see thread spec capabilities across all the typical sale sites. So this first and formost would be a question. Additionally within a manual this surely is listed or printed, if theres a manual! If all this 277 thread capability is fact, thats just super cool, and I congratulate Thor with this accomplished modification. I did notice on this particular model a bobbin case opening lever. So this is using the required hook differential that Juki uses on the safety clutch design of many years ago. In any case we here enjoy the machines and their designs, its much easier here in this forum to understand why certain machines are copied and sold. We should also understand any business back story of these processes. Im fine so far with both my Juki 1541, 1541s and so a bit of my homework here: http://thorsewingmachines.com/index.php/shop/thor-sewing-machines/thor-gc-1541s-single-needle-leather-and-upholstery-walking-foot-sewing-machine-new-detail Good day Floyd
  17. Threads in the 46 through 138 range work. Veg tan leather is pretty tough, much more than the different tanning of upholstery etc. leathers. So if these upholstery class/size machines have a lift of say 3/8”. This does not neccessarily mean their going to work well at the same thickness. To consider veg tan, or its thickness here. Its again just an opinion that, a much thinner choice is to be made. My opinion is veg tan 3/16 inch is still going to be slow going. With a leather type cutting needle required. There are many here who use this size machine for thin leather, skins and hide materials making bags and all sorts of products. In short, these cylinder arm machines are farrr and few. If your chance is to get one at a price that works for you its an asset, no doubt about it. Sometimes using this in your google search can help nail down some post here in the site. As whatever you type after the net: site:leatherworker.net: pfaff 345 Additionally and a more thourough explained and made as a permanent “sticky post” and is here. http://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/25239-the-type-of-sewing-machine-you-need-to-sew-leather/ Have a good day Floyd
  18. I thought it was a stretch with my first Juki walking foot machine, using typical singer 111 presser style feet. I found at this beginning I wanted the same precise adjustment I had set, and according to the manual. It was for sure an eye opener and lots of sanding filing, grinding and re tempering to a degree. Needless to say many a nice set of cording feet had been reworked.. So in short many smaller dimension differences are never thought about, yet it was my first experience in this. I had my own complaints of .020" height differences in my epay 111 style purchases. This is to say the least of their fit and finish. What I have since found is there are Pros who in fact make precision presser feet, adjustment and of many custom styles. So when there are people we learn with Sewing machine, machine shops and trades people. One should make a hierarchy note as I did, that this re fitting and or custom task, is another precision adjustment for quality. I could not earlier today come up with enough differences to comment, sorry man! Now that I am. I can only say from my few years experience in these machines is the very same with my other life experience. Consistency matters, so installing other presser feet for a task on these sew machines I feel should be without height adjustment, though be consistent in design. This can be discussed many ways but again I'm being consistent in general presser feet here, so its just efficient and that's productivity. I don't really think I want to go into, that with some of these special presser feet "with" a base plate for custom work are not going to some times require presser foot bar heights be checked and or adjusted. So, what I have noticed is some in these 441 class machines have blued, plated and stainless presser feet. Some look more robust but that's not always the tempering case with metals. Its good to consider exactly where the presser feet need to be when down, especially if other than textile or blanket style presser feet are used. Like is there a difference or should there be, has this been discussed any. I would consider what your material thickness range is going to be "in reality" If a substantial clearance is in your fabrications then maybe this is to be considered. It is also leaning me back to consistency and if I have to reset with a certain brand for this productivity its at least now a simple planed goal in the future. have a good day Floyd
  19. Hello there! Looks as though a normal range of thread tops at T207, normally with that. Many may use a smaller thread in my opinion. With some super tuning possibly the bigger thread, yet going back down to small threads for other general stitching might be a pain with resetting things. With a reducer, many of your mates downunder are sure to give a bit of help. There are several options for you, and some depending on how much time etc. I have heard there are several machine dealers down there. One in particular is a Cowboy hightex sew machine dealer. Often on the forum here, deffinetly consider them. Good day Floyd
  20. With smaller standard or upholstery class machines of mine the foot pedals are a bit adjustable. I think importantly though they are centered very near the 2” mark behind the needle. But this is always a sit down position So with this base plate flip, you have or are able to consider. Its new position is pretty close to 10.5 forward at your pedal center. This Im referencing, as if I did this. I’m considering I would get a pedal position center not that far past the needle. Im pretty sure its a personal prefference adjustment. I do like the flip to gain 4” toward the needle, or for my stool to be closer. As Joon1911 mentioned the foot rest, so I tried another stool I had, as the stool foot rest position is a good mention. Anyway I will need to work on these ideas. Thank you Bob and others for the Tips. Floyd
  21. I would sure take a look it if its local. Though some videos promote thread bigger than 138. This in my opinion jumps ship on settings “ typical” with normal upholstery class, being in the 46-138 threads. Just saying if its possible, its likely only tuned specificly for that size above 138. As you seen these have the step adjustment knob on top, this I always liked. But it was only offered ages ago on the super premium juki model series with -7 I heard long ago Consew is the American business side and a partner of Seiko lines of machines. These all may have been established after the sale of Singer. This I heard and Im not a history buff really so its just my opinion. With you being local and able to run the machine, with your experience and material its extremely benefical I think. I have seen their design of the safety clutch mechanism, it seems a great retro install design in my opinion. I truly (off topic) wonder how often these are used with any! Of the servos installed nowadays. When looking at the Consew while its tilted back again, I notice the hook used is a style, not requiring a bobbin/basket opening lever as some models, but not all. This may be with their design parts above. I many moons ago looked briefly for information at some of these hook differences. So now or in the future really, I can study and gather a bit more with others experience. Good luck on your assesment and for sure, keep us posted. Floyd
  22. I understand what you are saying. I have to say though this is in fact the same with the bigger machines. Im pretty sure! Or it’s exactly as you mention with the Cobra class 4. So I believe the 3200 has the same base casting size and placement. With that I think the basic pedistal stand is used throughout these big stitchers we talk about on the site here constantly. So you picked a nice machine, the optional pedistal stand or as mine the same similar stand its what we got. I have had plans, but been busy. Good day Floyd ps: I have had plans for a box type build-up of this base pedestal stand.
  23. I don't believe you want to use a cutting tip needle, rather a round point in my opinion. This webbing is a thickness ? may I ask. In many Upholstery shops there is not a heavy machine stitcher ( i think I can easily say that on this site). So a standard 46, 69, 92 size thread is typical upholstery. I do understand a lot use to, and still do use 138 in outdoor products. This size many times in the " outdoor or marine products was because it lasted longer" and respectfully not actually needed for the strength. To address this the newer special threads are the king in marine and outdoor 24/7 weather. I think adhesive could be a standard in bolstering strength using types, made for such environments your in. good day Floyd
  24. I have to agree with others and recommend any of the standard rolling! tool boxes used everywhere. This can be a gettr done now solution. We probably can all agree some nice custom wood cabinets full of drawers are excellent also. Many of these portable options you can get in different colors and widths including "depths" these days. I really got hooked on a decent style and in blue from menards, a big box store. Picked these up a couple years ago and as expected they just work great. I really like and seriously recommend any storage to have wheels, In my past and present shop/work area situations mobile is good. On another hot topic, this pertains to many materials. That is some separated, and lets say project types. I say that looking forward! without further hot air. This is specifically for flat pattern storage. I think everyone has some templates and or some material type patterns, I found these benefit from a flat storage. We can get all upset taking away storage area for leather we may want stored flat, so another flat shelf or Several shelf's could be tip for your plans. Getting to the working end of this is a table for ya. Probably a good mention is your idea of size availability, or present build need. With this I believe some better tips can be posted. But hey! pics and photos are no doubt always cool, quite a few tips get added in just from these. good day Floyd
  25. I recall this topic way back from his personal web site, and back then the photo post were excellent. I had then gained a real interest in the article and or post. I appreciated when Gregg kicked it up a notch and helped clarify this sometimes issue. No matter what when new post similar in equipment we ourselves have, well we key into these a bit more. At this time I havent had this problem, on either style Juki 1541 machine heads running in the shop. I try hard to recall but cannot seem to nail it down yet. Anyway I think this particular part; the hook support plate may have an optional heavier duty part. This I can be blamed ( totally fine ) although Our friend Gregg may straighten me out on this. Im not positive if this is my ocd or my crs. Again just helping in saying a machine choice in Juki 1541s or standard 1541 is a new head designed machine, it has a feed movement thats beyond new, its rectangular motion on the feed dog pulling the material vs older other designs. I being new and a green horn in 2012 got down crackin the brochures on newer designs and why. Im not silly, and We all know the old singers and copies have sewn trillions of yards of material all over the world. My mechanical background although retired. Leads me to look at machines of all kinds respectfully. Interesting though is if machines are leading in the factory sewing industry we as purchasers should take a look. So in several model numbers this Juki 15xx series is and haazz filled the factories a lot. Lets face it this 15series machine head is likely the latest cloning machine we know in laymen eyes like mine. You might consider I like these 15series model machines from Juki. You would be correct, in that I long ago picked up on a phrase that cost! Its; Go Pro or Go Home https://www.juki.co.jp/industrial_e/download_e/catalog_e/dnu1541.pdf
