It is to difficult to see the machines in your photos. The top photo shows more paint off the flat of the machine. I would tilt each back, remove the belt and then the thread from the needle then turn by hand the hand/pulley wheel to get a feel for the ease of operation as you turn. With that information a bit of information on the power voltage supply requirement and then motor type and or style, clutch or servo motor. For sure an operational check on each is a great thing. As you mentioned pieces and parts are expensive on this brand, you can consider it fact, though its still in my opinion, its because when new they are simply better. With that you should consider "true" factory usage, its a good and interesting topic in many ways this production is. good day Floyd

Yes, totally understand. Its truly an exhausting hunt, they seem to have marketed " their " designation was the be all end all. ya right! So in that rant, your gonna see this question alot and there are many that fit yet slight modifications for a particular setup. I mean some factory machines run like rockets and a certain stitch angle is obtained by some super fine designs of the needles. The short of it is your looking for "system 135 x 17 " needles for textiles meaning any weaved canvas or fabrics. In these there are your as you mentioned sizes for different thread sizes i.e. 18, or listed ( NM:110 Size 18 ). With your interest in leather you may want a leather point needle as mentioned, They Cut and also may cut other threads on reversing. but in any case they are Listed for that machine 135 x 16 and designated Leather point. some of the dealers here above have these for your benefit or the e place has them good day Floyd

I think you will be, in the long run glad if you use some plywood or solid block. With this and some wood work tools you could make a few custom modules I would say. These can take advantage of your initial pegboard and for adjustment options. The pegboard I would make secure in the center and or at a few places say on 16'' oc or thereabouts. I don't have the patience in the split second of some pegboard hangers, in removing the tool or putting them back up. I mean I just demand a secure mount. Been there, its remove tool and hold hanger.. re install tool with two hands securing most all hangers. In this there is some enjoyment, take a spin over to the big box lumber stores. I haven't scoped them out lately but if there are new hanger types " they actually use " for us customers, well they should have some new secure designs. On a final old tip the; woodsmith tips. These have been a top quality, tested and in my opinion refined to great value. Many years ago I subscribed and really before these phones and laptops, yes including the countless desktops I put together. lets say its been awhile but check some on there ideas they always had extensive plans that were in my usage spot on accurate. Juki LU-563 - reverse stitch keeps breaking needles
brmax replied to Thatone's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Hello there, did the service techs either one mention their thoughts on this issue. In addition when describing to them this and any other situation was the machine working ok in fabric while testing, or might they have also used leather . By the way what needle size are you using, and is this the same size as when the techs took a look at it. Good day Floyd -
Sam, your sure welcome! As Wiz is describing the use of different plates for flat work. Its real good information on this use for many lite projects as mentioned, great tips. I now try to work with canvas as much as possible so I have slowly geared up for that. As Im retired from heavy equipment and Ag mechanical service. These machines and a bit of enjoyment, im calling it work now days. I was able to pick up a nice used cobra class 4. This was a year or so back, and from a fella in Illinois. With this addition I considered myself ready to sew some big stitches. What I can say is, some machines are easily going to work your projects better. These may seem like they are all the same level, but as you hear others respectfully. The projects in their thickness and temper really benefit by different machine sizes. Have a Good day Floyd

Drive down to Springfield and have a look around them machines. You wont find better sew machine technical knowledge anywhere on the planet, than right where your posting. You have made good choices, so keep it up. In that I think if you are considering sheaths as a typical thickness of leather. This should bump up the machine duty type. Doing small sized items in my opinion cannot be better done than on a flat bed. Yet many projects you will find getting up from one machine, to finish on another style. I think its a great time to say many cylinder arm machines have extra small cylinder size. This can be very smartly observed and a tip to understand in your designs. This capability being unmatched even in its same size class. Many times referred to upholstery class, typicaly threads 138 and under. In which you can see just looking around your stuff most small items are sewn with, as youve been noticing im sure. No matter your close to some big machines, take a ride and see what they say in person. And for sure keep an eye out for the online places. Good day Floyd

Probably a couple of dumb questions...
brmax replied to Nightshade's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
No because the hook needs to turn the same clockwise direction to pickup new threads and make the knot so to speak. Good day Floyd ps: There are some tips n tricks to lock the seam stitch, its been done for many years. This may even be in a singer ops manual. -
I would have to study the video again, as I thought I seen a shadow of the spring so initialy thought this was the double blip. Its good to hear your adjustment made a change for the good. Have a good day Floyd

To my understanding the 29K 72 is a big bobbin long arm. With the model 73 offered with the small bobbin and long arm. Good day Floyd ps: here is a discussion from the past

Cobra Class 4 - Adjusting to sew thicker materials
brmax replied to luckyclover's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Have you been able to use the foot pedal lift in this task. In the specs of most all these machines the optional foot pedal or a knee bumper linkage is used. These are the mechanisms that give the max lift. Though they arent meant to stay at that height as these function with the springs and mechanicals. Good day Floyd -
I would take the red label pfaff and get some thread. Good day Floyd

Is your thread breaking at a certain point. Or during a function like back tac, or turning the material piece around. This could help a bit in the trouble shooting. Good day Floyd

In my setups I havent noticed any errors unless a belt slipage. Although the full NP functions are not available using a reducer, as in typical needle positions with the heel the treadle application. If a different shnchronizer head with separate adjustments for up and down needle settings is an option for use that may prove to be a benefit on other servos. With that, possibly ? This may Re-enable full/all functions of needle positioning. Just my thoughts on the subject today, this needle positioning is always a hot topic. Thanks for the tips good day Floyd

R8R: In the needle positioning function of that motor, I am interesred in the systems “ heel “to raise or bury the needle. Can you discuss anymore into that. I had this prior to reduction Mods, although knew! this probably would not be an option afterward. So with some experience from your setup with these functions, Im sure curious to hear more about. If possible, please include any of the typical “ tap” to initialize a single stitch performance. Thanks for the tips Floyd

In my opinion having a needle positoner and commanded to return a needle to up position or vice versus from your particular setup is really nice. With most of these servos as in price under 250.00, have more difficulty if in the reducing pulley systems. Some however I believe can do some! Operations within reduction of 4.75 : 1. Allthough full operations or abilities of typical positioners is not available, to my limited present knowledge. One interesting step I found with little testing is the needle positioning with a typical Heel application. This I have not been able to “Re-accomplish” as before a reduction system like previously setup with. These are all benefits I like, and or liked before reduction. But life must go on. If I could have just one of these benefits I would choose to better the one step/stitch fuction. As in the “standard” tapping of the foot pedal for this operation to be fullfilled. This should be one stitch and Never 2, this would have to be my priority. I dont believe this can be accomplished with present switch assemblies. Good day Floyd

Leather edge finishing from the professionals with an sander
brmax replied to RusticLeatherShop's topic in How Do I Do That?
Thats quite the saddle back video, a great education into the details of the case. Of course they made it look easy, especially with the well thought out workstations. I also happen to appreciate the leather wrap on the hammer, thats called a field experience modification. Thanks for the show! Floyd -
It probably should only be used for very light duty sewing. In a bit of search you may find this, sorry. So probably wise to use small threads in any case.

I dont believe they are much different at all, in their design. It is possible the specifics are not as original, and many times at a start they arent. I first notice a clone brand just 2 months after finding a new in box juki1341, it was in a very low price range for the brand. So with these new far east factories, it maybe worth looking into for your projects. At the time the 1342 was really a benefit I thought with the handy top knob for adjustment. I cannot recal the name. Thanks for the binder tip. Good day Floyd

As mentioned before, so I would ask the dealer to set it up to accept the 138 thread and needles. This really is a nice requirement and one I would order if available or simply move on. With the different clearances needed and proper setup for bigger needles of 138 thread at the hook. These changes will sure make your expectations with the projects and new machine purchase easier. Some of this is just information I expect a company in the trade to ask me. Along with their recommendations in the first place. It always helps me having a scratch pad or at least a business card for just these types of notes of customers. Of course the next step of work order with plenty of particulars to check mark. I keep these handy and for sure close to the phones. Good day Floyd

Wholesale typically is 20% and hardly ever over 30-40%. So anything your happy with below these new retail price range. I have found more importantly in sales of any not new or new old stock items are the persons interested. These buyers no matter what have their own point they will take a serious pause. If they the buyers have a legit use, personally! the price can go as you know crazy hi good day Floyd

With the size of that needle and the eye of it having plenty room for a loop. I would turn the needles scarf a bit away from operator, though still having hook clearance. Were talking turned slightly and this may also work in the opposite direction for a better check. Good day Floyd

Its about a large coffee away from Springfield Leather. I would take a look there and get a much better idea, sitting in front of one. Good day Floyd -
For the punch bounce, I found it required a real stationary table and or at the corner would help. CS osborne 603 cutting pad works great. I havent a clue what kinda vinyl rubber it is but it is in no way a mud flap or hard like hdpe. Good day Floyd

Looking at the bobbin basket one can see the thread slot at the 5:00 position; if sitting at the operator station. Anyway on the same part one can see the tensioner adjustmrnt screw at the 4:30 position on the black tensioner spring ( very tiny, easily lost screw ). To farther right is the mounting screw and not to be messed with for tension adjustmet. I don't have a manual, and was the priority for myself with my new found machine projects. Possibly a link here on the site somewhere. Floyd
