Couple of new holsters for my new S&W 66-1.
Rayban replied to Srigs's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice job...I especially like the wet molding you've done on them. And the "marbling effect" I had to smile about....I've been calling the Eco-Flo results much worse than that, but on some jobs, it works out very well, like on yours. -
Bushcraft knife sheath
Rayban replied to Rayban's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Tha'ts a Roger, Marine!! -
This is a style of sheath that seems to be popular with the bushcraft folks these days. It's hard for me not to put at least a little stamping on it...I was just trying to see how close I could come to duplicating one.....I will make some minor changes to the next one. The knife is a Fallkniven F1 blade blank I put cocobolo handles on....

Thanks so much Reid!!! They fit perfectly through 3 layers of 8-10oz.
-
Great job Timothy...I've always found latigo pretty tough to wet mold....wonder if you could get away with less leather if you used regular tooling leather...but I might go to 8-10oz as well. The Mexican braid looks very nice.

WOW...that's Gore-juss

I like...did you use a core? I usually don't do plain either because it shows what a lousy dye job I do.....and all my other boo booz.....great looking piece.
-
I just saw that in the morning news....it was 325 miles from me, so I slept right through it.

Kani...got the buckle today and I love it! It's a great addition to my buckle collection. How did you know I liked horses?? I envy anyone who can braid like you do....someday maybe I can. Nice job, and thank you very much!! Rayban

So what are we to do with pictures of the gifts we receive?? I've seen "send them to so and so"...ignored....a repeipiants thread...ignored...Cecil started his own thread....some on this one...helter skelter ...and there's already another round being planned?? Let's work out the bugs on this one first!! So where do I post my picture?

I've been using cocobolo for knife handles (my fav) so will have to make me a rub stick soon. It should be as pretty as Osage Orange!
-
(Randy, I didn't want to high-jack your thread) Is there an ideal wood for rub sticks, or will any hardwood do?? Thanks
-
Question on rub sticks...does any hardwood make a good rub stick? Which wood is ideal for them?? Thanks
-
WOW!! That font look like it was designed just for you Ken, it fits perfectly.

Paul...for the longest time I've been thinking of taking a baseball apart and carving some leather, and stitching it back together....using the white leather as a pattern for the "new one"..would I be on the right track?

That's a great piece of work!! I would love to have that buckle!!

How to mould a holster that's really hard
Rayban replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
...well .....all the blood rushes to it.... But seriously, I make knife sheaths, and I like them to end up hard as well. I get them wet when all the carving/stamping/stitching work is done and let them dry by a heat source. The sun works well, if you have it. In the winter I place them by a heat vent...not directly on it....just close enough to catch the warm air flow. I understand some folks use a melted wax method.....but i haven't done that....yet.... -
Min. order direct from W&C is 1 side.

I don't know jack about Sharidan carving, but like any other art form, I know when I like what I see... as far as the critiques you have recieved, I have no idea what they are talking about..... But the one thing that has always impressed me about Sheridan carving is how the artist fits the particular shape with the art work......be it a wallet or a saddle jockey. Keep up the good work......when can we see your design on leather??

Hard for me to imagine that anything could be better than Whickett & Craig.

Another "skull kulture" guy!! You make nice skulls. In fact, may be the nicest I've seen on here.
-
Steve, themz really nice. Only comment I would have is shoulder strap may be a good idea.(?)
-
We'll see if the idea grows legs...there should be ample notice.
