How to glue pig skin lining to very waxy Horween leather
mickthedig replied to mickthedig's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have some spare bits I will do some test. Thanks -
I am making a folio case and need to line it with pig skin, but the Horween leather I am using is very very waxy and I am worried the glue will not stick. I am wondering if there is away to remove the excess wax before I glue them togeather Anybody had the same problem and what did you do to get round it? Thanks

I use toothpicks on thin leather and pencils for thick leather. The wood seems to hold the edge paint better than any of the metal tools

I buy 90% of my leather from them. I have never had a problem.

I messed it up
mickthedig replied to Dunluce's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I think we all have done something like this. I made a bag looked great but the top was to stiff and the zipper cut into your hand every time you tried to use it. But its how we all learn. -
Yes that would be a good idea, Have a look at this video

HI thientran2711 Making the rolled edges on the wallet you want can be difficult. I would suggest you look at Ian Atkinson's webpage at http://www.ianatkinson.net/leather/videos.htm He has a loads of videos that will show you the tools you will need and how to make a wallet. He has a pattern you can buy and then make it with the help of his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNXfMC0SqP4 Once you make a couple of these you could then change the pattern to make the wallet you have in your picture. Good Luck Mick

Looking For A Roll Top Backpack Template
mickthedig replied to austinb's topic in Patterns and Templates
Hi austinb I have the same problem A bag from the internet I would love to buy but costs more than I can afford. But with $2 of card from Dollar Tree and a few days studying the original via the internet, and skills learn in kindergarten, I made this model which I could use as a pattern to make a copy, but I am now working customizing it for what I want from a bag. In making this I have learn loads about bag construction, and now I understand why it costs so much. Have a go, you might surprise yourself -
April Keep Making Stuff Challenge
mickthedig replied to thefanninator's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I went a slightly different way. Rather then two layers of veg tan I wanted to use a scrap of Horween Essex I had for the inside. It is very stretchy almost like a sheet of rubber, but the problem then was the snap would not work, so I added a strap. I left the Essex in its natural color and I dyed the veg tan in black with white stitching (Practice for a belt I am making). -
