And you can see how well all these "protection" laws work. Knife violence on the rise. Even China bans knives, and look what kind of result that has. Knife attacks, etc. If someone is going to commit a crime or commit violence, they are going to figure out a way to do it. Infringing on my right to purchase a tool is not going to stop it, only reduce my rights. Which is what a lot of politicians want. An easier to control populace. A whole lot of US history and a whole lot of sacrificed lives in the effort to prevent politicians and government from exerting this kind of control over individual freedoms. Sadly we just hand it over again to their persistent efforts. YinTx

Where to find extremely thin leather?
YinTx replied to hatrabbit's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
If LatigoAmigo's won't work, I am sure there are plenty of us here that would be able to drop you a piece of that thickness in the mail. YinTx -
This was my issue when I said " If everything is a warning, then nothing becomes important." From now on, every time I see a Prop 65 warning, I just think to myself "oh, its that crappy law that makes people put stickers on everything" and I promptly ignore it. And if I think that, what is everyone else thinking? I can see it serving a future purpose then, in which they decide that everything with a Prop 65 warning should be made unavailable since everyone agreed it is hazardous enough to warrant a sticker. If it sounds unlikely, try and find some glues and dyes in CA. YinTx

Not my listing, but I know a lot of other Leatherworkers like the Paul Burnett items, and this individual is selling a lot of autographed lesson books by him so I thought I'd share. https://www.ebay.com/sch/cathes/m.html?item=132995626378&hash=item1ef728358a%3Ag%3A1TwAAOSwNSdckbSB&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 YinTx

Finished Sheath for Customer!
YinTx replied to YinTx's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks, and yeah, seems most of my projects take forever. And each one seems to fill it's own scrap bag in the process... Thank you much! Appreciate it, and he seemed genuinely happy with it, although I haven't heard back from him since.. I'm going with "no news is good news." YinTx- 36 replies

I'll give you a few hundred bucks and pick it up from you in Florida. You can use the $$ to put towards a new Cobra. YinTx

Yeppers. Even when you try to sell something on Ebay, you are asked if it is a Prop 65 item. If everything is a warning, then nothing becomes important. Impossible to tell what is really dangerous vs. what isn't. Another case of how laws are not necessarily logical. YinTx

Fantastic, intricate artwork. Stitching is great too. What did you use for stitching? I like the retro buckle with this style art also, very fitting. YinTx -

350+ mold Guns for Sale
YinTx replied to IHL's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Maybe this will help. Usually only see a for sale post in one forum, but ok... YinTx -
I followed that while you made it.. a whole lot of work went into that, it came out great! I hope she gets a lot of use out of it. YinTx

It looks really nice. I have some kudo but mine I think you could squeeze and oil would come out. Is yours drier, or is it oily also? I would be concerned using mine on a wallet because I wouldn't want the oils to ruin what is in the wallet, or the clothes of the owner... so I had never considered using it for such. YinTx

Cow and Bison backpack
YinTx replied to joelpete's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Absolutely fantastic! Great craftsmaship, beautiful leather combo, and built elegantly but clearly made to last a lifetime. If a backpack could become a best friend, this one would be the one to do it! Would love to see photos of the inside also! YinTx -
horse Horse Padfolio
YinTx replied to YinTx's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks! I stressed about the coloring a lot. I really want to learn to do highlighting with dye, but haven't managed it yet. As much as I wanted to do that here, I couldn't stomach ruining the entire piece lol. Appreciate the comment and the info, Colt. YinTx -
I made the horse padfolio and my Rose knife sheath on some older Tandy shoulders/sides that have fat wrinkles etc on them, and it came out great. I put the same good leather in the for sale section, but no takers, no offers. I'll keep making things out of it until I run out. It'll make me money in products, but I had quite a bit of it so tried to sell a couple of pieces. I had a _really_ scarred up shoulder that I made myself a padfolio out of a couple of years ago, it is wearing like iron and everyone loves it, scars and all. All that said, I have enjoyed working with Wickett & Craig and Hermann Oak as well. The newer Tandy stuff... not so much. YinTx

Also heard they've had issues with lower quality lately as well. Let us know how that goes. Some Grade 1 tooling and some bridle, and then some of their tannery run overstock stuff that I don't expect to be perfect. I have high expectations, which they have met in the past. We'll see how it goes this time round. YinTx

As I mentioned in the gallery image: Unbelievable. Nothing less. True art. When you are ready to give classes, I am sure you will have a lot of attendees. YinTx

Paper Thin Veggie-tanned leather, historic treatments
YinTx replied to Dbeeksci's topic in How Do I Do That?
Just curious, how do you know that the original leather was stiffened? Was it possibly pliant when new, and stiffened with time? There is a wiki page and other information on the net on restoration of old leather, primarily regarding British Museum leather dressing. YinTx
