  1. Absolutely fantastic! Great craftsmaship, beautiful leather combo, and built elegantly but clearly made to last a lifetime. If a backpack could become a best friend, this one would be the one to do it! Would love to see photos of the inside also! YinTx
  2. Thanks! I stressed about the coloring a lot. I really want to learn to do highlighting with dye, but haven't managed it yet. As much as I wanted to do that here, I couldn't stomach ruining the entire piece lol. Appreciate the comment and the info, Colt. YinTx
  3. I made the horse padfolio and my Rose knife sheath on some older Tandy shoulders/sides that have fat wrinkles etc on them, and it came out great. I put the same good leather in the for sale section, but no takers, no offers. I'll keep making things out of it until I run out. It'll make me money in products, but I had quite a bit of it so tried to sell a couple of pieces. I had a _really_ scarred up shoulder that I made myself a padfolio out of a couple of years ago, it is wearing like iron and everyone loves it, scars and all. All that said, I have enjoyed working with Wickett & Craig and Hermann Oak as well. The newer Tandy stuff... not so much. YinTx
  4. Also heard they've had issues with lower quality lately as well. Let us know how that goes. Some Grade 1 tooling and some bridle, and then some of their tannery run overstock stuff that I don't expect to be perfect. I have high expectations, which they have met in the past. We'll see how it goes this time round. YinTx
  5. As I mentioned in the gallery image: Unbelievable. Nothing less. True art. When you are ready to give classes, I am sure you will have a lot of attendees. YinTx

Unbelievable. That is true art, my friend. YinTx
  7. Awesome! Let me know if you learn anything new. And since you learned from the expert, I'll shut up and pay attention! (meant in earnest, nothing less) YinTx
  8. Just curious, how do you know that the original leather was stiffened? Was it possibly pliant when new, and stiffened with time? There is a wiki page and other information on the net on restoration of old leather, primarily regarding British Museum leather dressing. YinTx
  9. I just ordered quite a pile of leather from there yesterday. I haven't ordered from them in a long while. Now you have me concerned. I guess we'll see when it arrives! YinTx

    CLOSED SHOP

I am sure no problem, I think for folks looking to buy tools, they are just wondering where they will be listed, and where the will be shipped from as that will affect final cost. Again, sorry to hear of your predicament. Wish you the best with your sale and future endeavors. YinTx
  11. Very cool. YinTx
  12. Even more impressive with the close up! Nice! YinTx
  13. Agreed. And even though I know mimicry is the ultimate compliment, it still always saddens me when it happens because the deceit is unscrupulous. YinTx
  14. Not at all, and thanks for the compliment! Thank you kindly! YinTx
  15. Awesome skull! What kind of skull tho? With such prominant supraorbital foramen bones and sans cranial sutures, surely not human? I like the border work: is it a Barry King stamp? YinTx
  16. I tried to follow @yaklady's tutorial on horse eyes, not that I did as well as her, but I tried. I think maybe since there is no distinction of a pupil, it seems like a blind eye. But, in general, you don' see the white of the horse's eye very often, and the pupil is difficult to distinguish. I could have perhaps added a bit of dye to make the eye all dark, and tried to give it a white highlight as though there were a reflection off of a shiny round object, would make it seem more alive. I haven't done a lot of eyes per se, so lots of room for experimenting and improvement for sure! Appreciate that Ross! YinTx
  17. Thanks so much, @Scoutmom103! YinTx
  18. Thank you, @Rohn, I appreciate it! YinTx
  19. Seems nice, but sadly I can't see any photos because you are using a different image server, which seems to be down for the moment. Usually best to just drop the photos on this site so this doesn't happen. You will notice a lot of older posts are useless on this forum due to this fact. YinTx
  20. Pretty unique! Good colors for an 8 year old. Is that a stamp you used for the winged Pegasus and other horses? YinTx
  21. Well, she's finished in all her flawed glory. Still need lots of practice with horses I think, but many thanks to all those who helped me get this one as good as it is. For a guy who can't draw stick figures, I reckon I'm doin ok... Made this with some of that older Tandy leather like I have in the "for sale leather and lace" section, conditioned with some beeswax/neatsfoot oil blend I've made. Mahagony dye and antique, Tan Kote resist and Resolene top coat. 9 oz outside, 5 oz inside. Heavy Fil Au Chinois Brique linen thread. I'll probably put this one for sale, anyone have any idea what a tooled padfolio goes for these days? YinTx
  22. It was "show off leather work," not "show off someone else's knife," and I did what I could to dress it up. I don't judge my customers, just try to make the best things I can for them. And the shape did present a fun challenge. YinTx
  23. By the looks on their faces, they clearly like them. Seems like another winner! YinTx
  24. Are these chrome tanned, veg tanned, brain tanned or some other method? Also, what is your price, how many do you have available? Thanks, YinTx
