  1. Thanks for the reply. Since I've had the issue as well, I look forward to hearing what you use as a final solution. YinTx
  2. We have a number of experts here on sharpening that may pipe up, or you could find them in the sharpening section. @Art I believe does this kind of work, and may be able to provide some clarity. Your angle could have a lot to do with it, you might consider a microbevel as well, which would allow a steeper angle to keep the edge from rolling. Also, what is underneath your leather as you cut? This can have a dramatic effect on the life of your edge - example if you are cutting with granite under your leather, (not saying you are, just example), don't expect to get too far without dulling your blade. Also, what kind of leather are you cutting? As I understand it, some of the newer less expensive leathers have a kind of clay mixture worked into them (to make the surface look pretty) that can dull a blade fast. YinTx
  3. @MrLentz, have you tried any of these things? Any of them working for you? YinTx
  4. This! Always kinda baffled me, only figured if the tool was so rough that the beeswax filled in the rough... might help. Or maybe glue and wax don't get along so well.. I could see that helping. Hadn't thought of the glycerine idea... might try it sometime. YinTx
  5. Great to see you back at it. 9 months is a spell, you didn't miss a beat! Awesome work. YinTx
  6. I recall a story of a guy that ran an advertisement in the classifieds section of the newspaper: "This is your last chance! Send $25 to P.O. Box ###!!" and apparently made thousands. YinTx
  7. If you use a different photo hosting service, your images may be lost on this site in the future, which has happened to many older posts. Everything else is looking good, nice job on the hidden stitch! YinTx
  8. It is nice! How did you get the coloring so tidy around the letters? YinTx
  9. 'Tis spectacular. Look forward to seeing it finished! YinTx
  10. Same issue for me. The longer I let the glue cure (as in, DAYS), the less of a problem I have. Still, when I am stitching, the needles grab glue, the thread grabs glue, it's a mess. Have to put it on pretty thin. Hitting it with a heat gun before putting the pieces together helps... some. YinTx
  11. Ouch. Our only fault is not following suit with the world, and producing the same sellable stuff that's on the shelf. I can't make myself do it, so that's a fault. Results in fewer sales. YinTx
  12. Your "Unknown" dies look like grommet setters. YinTx
  13. Video isn't working, their facebook page link doesn't work, and their website says they've closed their store in Cody? But, I did find the youtube version which I had seen before. At the time, I realized it negated spending $$$ on the ez edger.... YinTx

    Help wanted

@Rossr is in PA I think, and probably a few others. What are you looking for help on? YinTx
  15. It's true, but do you cause your customers to buy 3 wallets when they can only use one? I can only imagine I would cause my sales to suffer. If it works for them, awesome, but I don't want to buy 3 sides from them, so I'm not a customer of theirs. Then again, if I needed 3 sides, for sure I'd be looking at what they have. Anyhow, shipping has become a bear these days, more and more expensive, to the point some stuff isn't worth shipping. Like the little blades I was trying to get from Osborne. Just not worth shipping. YinTx
  16. Can't convince me they didn't do this to drive larger sales. irritating. YinTx
  17. I've been looking on that site for almost a year waiting for the half moon knife to show up, finally gave up. Now I have 4 other knives (Rose, Blanchard, Clyde) so its a bit of a stretch to think I need another! YinTx
  18. Nice belt, stitching came out pretty nice. And stitching a belt is a chore. For me, by hand, with an awl, at 8SPI, I can go about 12-16 inches an hour now, and figure 80 inches or more of stitching on a belt, and you have a full day of stitching. Holes are snug, but not impossible for a decent stitch. I'd be sore for a while after that. So I usually have to break it up over a few days of work so as not to injure myself. Don't fret, it came out nice. YinTx
  19. I was about to order some replacement blades from Osborne that would fit in a padded envelope, but the shipping was as much as the cost of the blades. I haven't bought them yet because of that. And ordering the same items off of Amazon or Ebay with free shipping resulted in a higher total than the above option. Equally frustrating. YinTx
  20. Definitely a bittersweet event, and kind of him to trust you with his tools. I have a similar strap cutter, very nice. Take it apart, give the steel parts a dip in evaporust, buff it up and you will be good to go. Sheffield steel is considered good stuff. Folks fawn over how the older leather was so much better than what we have available today, so if it is condition-able, should be nice to use. I'm sure he'll be happy to see the stuff put back into service. YinTx
  21. Lining would definitely improve the package. I like the design, been wanting to make an eyeglasses case, but haven't really liked the "floppy" versions out there. Hadn't taken the time to design one I like, this would be a great starting point. YinTx
  22. This. I toyed with using it the "normal" way, but it didn't fit the Baird flower very well, so I turned it, and got the effect I was looking for. I am no expert and still learning, but sometimes ya gotta do what works best for ya and hope for the best! Doesn't always work out so well tho... YinTx
  23. +1 on leaf liners. Nice tools! I just used leaf liners on my oak leaf last night! YinTx
  24. I am surprised at this. I've never heard of Amy Roke's needing additional sharpening out of the box! YinTx
  25. Vegetable tanned leather which is labeled skirting for sale. Labeled 10-12 oz leather thickness. This side is fairly clean as can be seen in the photos. The backside is fairly smooth. It does show fat wrinkles and other characteristics, including some really cool looking brand marks as seen in the photo. I have more leather than I can use right now, so I'm selling off some pieces such as this when I have the time. Labeled asTandy item #9047-05, their price $120-$130 plus tax on the label, currently $145-$170 plus tax. I'm no expert, but I don't see the filling that is used in some of the newer Tandy leathers to cover up scars and such, so this *may* be some of the older nicer leather. My price: $115 plus shipping. I am also selling another side, which is a Double Shoulder 8-9 oz, photos in another listing, for $55 plus shipping. Combine these two pieces of leather to save on shipping and save on leather: $160 plus shipping or best offer. YinTx
