I wanted to make an order on Buckleguy and the shipping is 30$
YinTx replied to HeatherLeather's topic in Suppliers
It's true, but do you cause your customers to buy 3 wallets when they can only use one? I can only imagine I would cause my sales to suffer. If it works for them, awesome, but I don't want to buy 3 sides from them, so I'm not a customer of theirs. Then again, if I needed 3 sides, for sure I'd be looking at what they have. Anyhow, shipping has become a bear these days, more and more expensive, to the point some stuff isn't worth shipping. Like the little blades I was trying to get from Osborne. Just not worth shipping. Can't convince me they didn't do this to drive larger sales. irritating. YinTx -
I've been looking on that site for almost a year waiting for the half moon knife to show up, finally gave up. Now I have 4 other knives (Rose, Blanchard, Clyde) so its a bit of a stretch to think I need another! YinTx

First (and maybe last) belt
YinTx replied to Mike Wise's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice belt, stitching came out pretty nice. And stitching a belt is a chore. For me, by hand, with an awl, at 8SPI, I can go about 12-16 inches an hour now, and figure 80 inches or more of stitching on a belt, and you have a full day of stitching. Holes are snug, but not impossible for a decent stitch. I'd be sore for a while after that. So I usually have to break it up over a few days of work so as not to injure myself. Don't fret, it came out nice. YinTx -

I was about to order some replacement blades from Osborne that would fit in a padded envelope, but the shipping was as much as the cost of the blades. I haven't bought them yet because of that. And ordering the same items off of Amazon or Ebay with free shipping resulted in a higher total than the above option. Equally frustrating. YinTx -
Definitely a bittersweet event, and kind of him to trust you with his tools. I have a similar strap cutter, very nice. Take it apart, give the steel parts a dip in evaporust, buff it up and you will be good to go. Sheffield steel is considered good stuff. Folks fawn over how the older leather was so much better than what we have available today, so if it is condition-able, should be nice to use. I'm sure he'll be happy to see the stuff put back into service. YinTx

Trying My Hand at an F.O. Baird Pattern
YinTx replied to YinTx's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
This. I toyed with using it the "normal" way, but it didn't fit the Baird flower very well, so I turned it, and got the effect I was looking for. I am no expert and still learning, but sometimes ya gotta do what works best for ya and hope for the best! Doesn't always work out so well tho... YinTx -
+1 on leaf liners. Nice tools! I just used leaf liners on my oak leaf last night! YinTx

I am surprised at this. I've never heard of Amy Roke's needing additional sharpening out of the box! YinTx

Vegetable tanned leather which is labeled skirting for sale. Labeled 10-12 oz leather thickness. This side is fairly clean as can be seen in the photos. The backside is fairly smooth. It does show fat wrinkles and other characteristics, including some really cool looking brand marks as seen in the photo. I have more leather than I can use right now, so I'm selling off some pieces such as this when I have the time. Labeled asTandy item #9047-05, their price $120-$130 plus tax on the label, currently $145-$170 plus tax. I'm no expert, but I don't see the filling that is used in some of the newer Tandy leathers to cover up scars and such, so this *may* be some of the older nicer leather. My price: $115 plus shipping. I am also selling another side, which is a Double Shoulder 8-9 oz, photos in another listing, for $55 plus shipping. Combine these two pieces of leather to save on shipping and save on leather: $160 plus shipping or best offer. YinTx

Labeled asTandy item #9052-02, their price $90-$99 plus tax on the label, currently $112 - $140. YinTx I just noticed the shadow lines in the photo: it is light shining through the slats in the back of a chair, no diagonal shadow marks on the leather.

Remind me not to buy any craftools on ebay any time soon so I don't bid against you. Tandy creating demand. Going to have to learn that lesson and apply it! YinTx

Male Nightingale Armor Skyrim - WIP

I've never seen that. What brand of leather are you using? YinTx -
That would be interesting to see in action then. YinTx

Solid first effort for sure. Welcome to the craft. I think @bikermutt07 says something to the effect of wanting a new belt and deciding he could make it himself. $5000 in tools and leather, and months later, he now has it. That hadn't occurred to me. Always used the method when working on my '68 Ford, don't know why I didn't apply it here. Might hafta try. YinTx

How did I miss this, really cool! YinTx

@chriscraft That's a looker! Interesting all steel and wood? I just picked this one up, steel, wood and brass. I am in the process of cleaning it up. How did you determine how old yours is? YinTx
