  1. As far as flat black vinagaroon would work. I know that projects that I just used some neats foot oil and then thru on some aussie wax turned out really flat black like what your looking for. That is once the aussie wax has absorbed into the leather.
  2. Hey guys I was thinking of making myself a mousepad and maybe one for the GF but Im not sure of what finish to use on it. I game somewhat and she does alot of internet stuff so Im kind of wondering how some of the finishes will hold up to having a mouse running over them all the time. Was thinking of just some tan kote but not sure. Any and all suggestions or ideas welcome, thanks.
  3. On one of my holsters for my MP40 they just used a tnut and a screw with a grommet style rubber washer in the middle. This some pics, it is a Desantis holster.
  4. I thought bugs were a sealer lol nice looking chaps.
  5. Those do look really nice. I was gonna ask ya if that was a huge earring he was wearing then realized it was just holes in the picture lol.
  6. Great writeup Troy and the pics are excellent. That looks like it will work out great.
  7. Now Im a noob at leather so but just my input. Ive noticed that edge coat is like antique and pretty easily comes off with any thing that will break it up a bit, deglazer/many finishes/. I think that maybe a deglazer would work but I think there may be a chance of leaving a little stain from the dye in the edge coat.
  8. That is great, this will help me immensly in some coming up projects. Thanks a bunch
  9. Personally I think it would depend on how much 2up riding he does. If its alot then dont matter and probably put it on the front, if he doesnt do much then I would put it on the back so it stayed nice for as long as possible. Maybe add some design too which ever side doesnt get the main design.
  10. You have any links, Ive never heard of it (which doesnt mean much)
  11. I would like this as well as a friend at work wants me to make him one for his road king. Ive scene your bags Ian and they are top notch.
  12. So far I really like your work. Ive scene your other two threads as well and must say those are some outstanding colors you get. Good job.
  13. That looks really good. I like it. On a side note do you have a source or website that you prefer for finding authentic old drawings and pictures of the art like that?
  14. Your very right, if the company couldnt have enough strength to survive the beginning of the recession (not even a few months into it) then what makes anyone think they are good enough to deserve our well vested tax dollars. They should be treated just like everyone else and you know what they will fail, and in there place a new company or few or hundred will rise and well go thru the process of weeding out the ones that cant hack it. The ones that make it will hopefully have learned from the ones that failed and well have a better company providing a better product then we had before. Oh and how many leather workers got a bail out. Did any of you guys fly to congress in personel jets and ask for a handout because its so tough. O.T. I heard that Aussie just banned world of warcraft, most may not know what it is but its a online game. Apparently aussie government is getting really controlly as of late. Im sorry for you guys as well. Sounds like your losing all of your priveledges as well.
  15. I call dips on 1 and 6 if noone has allready.
  16. I have to agree, now Im thinking of what a couple of nice fullsized bracers would look like done up like that. Good job scissormedic on this one.
  17. That is one cool thing about modern internet tech. Even though we didnt get much info on it since there was not much to give but the fact that I was able to instantly pretty much talk to someone that I didnt know in a different language half way round the globe is kind of amazing. Just think even 30yrs ago if I had tried to do that.
  18. Would you happen to have a picture of the under side of the seat by chance. Are you planning on doing a carved/tooled style seat for him.
  19. Wow thats pretty cool. I like it. There are some people at work that would like that alot. Does it have a belt strap on the back.
  20. I looked at your pictures David before reading your post and was gonna ask ya if you changed your finish or was using a different type of leather. That turned out really nice. The finish is excellent.
  21. Looks pretty good. This is good for you to try this stuff out so you get the experience of working with the two new materials. Oh and by the way that thing will probably out live you lol
  22. Thats a good one lol. Good thing it didnt go all the way thru and take a chunk as a souvenier Wrap it up good and keep it moist and you may still get some stitches in it tomorrow morning if ya get it early.
  23. Very nice job, good use of the basket weave on that second one
  24. Thanks, Ive started doing some mods to mine as well, slowly of course.
  25. Im in a similer position to Trooperchuck in that I have to drive about 45min to get to my nearest tandy. Ive shopped exclusivley with them for the past year for the one main reason was that I could pick out my leather. And the sale prices on the leather are pretty good. However if you look at the regular (wholesale price) its not any better then weaver/WandC/or the others. Lately I have been very disapointed in leather quality to the point that my last two trips I didnt by any tooling leather. Ive got Wand C on the way and will see how I like there leather. Ive also got some tools that I need to return to tandy. I like some of there stuff but Im beginning to realize that the crafttool stamps arent worth spending the money on. I found some older ones on ebay and they are so much better then there newer stuff. I have started taking files to them and what not trying to get some definition. I personally think the sales staff at both the tacohma store and the seattle store are outstanding and ready to help, and never minded when I scoured thru there leather or came up to the counter with $500 dollars worth of stuff to buy with 2 adds and the online sales printed out. Also if it wasnt for tandy I wouldnt have gotten into the leather working like I have been. Went in to get some stuff to do a motorcycle seat and the next thing ya know Im finding leatherworker.net and making all kinds of stuff.
